There was an old PC football game I used to play as a kid. This was late 80's, early 90's I believe. I don't remember if it had an NFL license or not but it did at least have players numbers matching who they were in real life. For instance I remember Neal Anderson being the Bears RB.
Anyways, you basically played as the coach. It was in 2D and I believe the guys that simulated out each play were just X's and O's on the screen. From what I remember the game played vertically. It kept stats and everything.
I can't think of a place that would have more knowledge of these types of games and hoping I could get some help remembering what it was called.
