Replaying Jagged Alliance 2

I fired up JA2 with the 1.13 mod and I'm partying like it's 1999! Tedious micromanagement but still a great game.

ahh i love that game. i tried to install it on my computer a few months ago but i couldnt get it installed

I sucked so bad at this game. It took forever. I really liked it for a while, but my will slowly drained out of me when the realization hit that I sucked.

JA2 was brutal. One of my favourite games of all time though. I never finished it, but I remember I got close but couldn't beat the area with the big mansion that had tigers locked inside a room... That's the only recollection I have of it.

Did you try the install from GOG?

I recommend getting the 1.13 mod from The Bears Pit (The Bears Pit: v1.13 General Gameplay Talk » Jagged Alliance 2 (v1.13) Wiki and other JA-related web sites (http://thepit.ja-galaxy-forum.com/index.php?t=msg&th=22885&goto=343376&)). It's really an upgrade that adds more weapons, mercs, etc. but more importantly seems to be the way to modernize the game -- you can run it on Windows 10, you can run it windowed rather than full screen, you can customize the resolution (i.e. you can change the resolution to something like 1600:1200 and see a lot more of the battle map), and so on.

I think the only non-standard things I did to get JA2 to run with the 1.13 mod were from this post on The Bears Pit:

This is all that's required to run properly on my system:
- Set Windowed Mode as TRUE ('1' in Ja2.ini)
- Set Play Intro as FALSE ('0' in Ja2.ini)
- Reduced Color Mode (16-bit) under 'Compatibility' tab in Ja2.exe 'Properties'
('XP SP3' compatibility mode & copying of the dlls not required in my case)


To get the base JA2 to run (I got a black screen at start-up), I think all I had to do was this from the JA2 Steam forum:

Delete or rename this file
\SteamApps\common\Jagged Alliance 2 Gold\Data\Intro.slf
then you can start and play the game, runs without problems so far!
