I've been doing a TCY dynasty about the Idaho Vandals (https://forums.operationsports.com/fofc/showthread.php?t=93458). I was able to build them into National Champions by the 11th season. That was fun, and I'll still return to that universe, but I wanted to try another dynasty that would be even more challenging.

In my Idaho dynasty, my house rule was that I couldn't recruit defensive players in the top 500. For this one, I'm going to reverse that. So I can recruit an elite defensive, but I'll be limited to top 500 offensive players. (Just as with the last dynasty, Kickers and Punters will be left out of the restrictions).

The other thing that will make this challenging is the team I picked. While Idaho was certainly challenging due to limited resources, terrible starting prestige, and a remote location, there were some advantages. Playing in the Sun Belt meant most of my conference games were very easy, especially once I was able to recruit an elite offense. Kansas has the lowest starting Prestige in a major conference and we have to face off against one of the toughest conferences.

Since I now have recruiting restrictions on offense, I'm going to switch to the Double Wing and attempt a ball control offense that limits turnovers, which can help our defense dominate.

Here are the coaches I'm stuck with for the first season...

Need a guy with much better Academic support.

Ooof, that play calling is brutal. He will get replaced next season no matter what.

A better play caller, but I can't live with that injury rating. Will also get replaced before next season.

Week 2: Tulsa (0-0) at Kansas (0-0)

After taking the lead on an impressive opening drive, we miss an easy FG and Tulsa equalizes immediately on a big play. The defense buckles down and we retake the lead just before the half at 14-7. We trade punts in the 3rd quarter, but finally pull away with three straight scoring drives in the 4th quarter. Tulsa isn't a very good team, but it's still nice to win the opener.

Week 3: Toledo (0-1) at Kansas (1-0)

Another game where the defense carries us. We score TD's on our 2nd and 3rd drives to take a 14-0 lead, then it quickly becomes a blowout as the defense comes up with pick sixes on consecutive drives to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Right a fter the half, our defense forces a 3 and out, then we block the punt to get the ball on the 4 yard line. Two plays later, it's a 35-0 lead and we coast to victory.

Week 4: #43 Kansas (2-0) at Northwestern (0-2)

A much higher scoring game than the previous two as our defense just can't get it done, but our offense plays a spirited game to give us a chance to win. In fact, we build an early 17-7 lead int he 1st quarter and hold that until late in the 2nd half, when Northwestern scores TD's on 4 consecutive drives. Then they make a gutsy call by going for it on 4th and prevent our offense from getting the ball back one last time.

Week 5: #28 Texas Tech (3-0) at Kansas (2-1)

As expected, we will be no match for almost any Big 12 opponent. The tone of the game was set when we actually manage to stop Tech's first drive with an INT. Then we put together our own decent drive, but our kicker misses the chip shot FG. Tech's offense kicks into high gear and we can't match them. Texas Tech puts together 454 total yards and limits us to 66. It was only a closer score because Tech missed three FG's and had two turnovers.

Week 10: Kansas (2-5) at Iowa State (2-5)

A battle of Big 12 doormats. We play very well for the first three quarters, dominating field position and time of possession. It's a 10-0 lead entering the 4th quarter when Iowa State finally breaks through on a 12 play, 93 yard TD drive to close the gap to 10-7. We make it a two score game after they give it up on downs and it's 17-7 with 1:11 left. But we still tried to blow it. Two big pass plays and Iowa State is within 4 pts. Then they recovered the onside kick and had the ball at the 45 with 26 seconds left. But our defense finally holds strong and preserves the victory.

Well, we kept this one close for the most part. It was only 14-10 deficit at the half. Colorado got one more score heading into the 4th quarter to make it 21-10. That's when Koepke fell apart. He threw 4 INT's in the 4th quarter and Colorado turned it into a blowout.

Yeah, I just went ahead and bought it again a couple years ago because I couldn't get the license reset.

Week 1: Akron (0-0) at Kansas (0-0)

Not a promising start to the season. Two long drives in the 1st quarter stale din the red zone and we had to settle for FG's. Then Koepke threw picks on back to back drives at the end of the half to put us in a hole. We slowly crawl back from that hole. Down 8 late int he 4th quarter, Koepke goes 77 yards in 4 plays for the potential game tying score, but the 2 point conversion was not successful and we lose.

Week 3: Kansas (0-1) at Wyoming (0-2)

We move the ball fairly well throughout this game, both passing and running, but a fumble and two missed FG's really threaten our chances. We're down 21-7 late in the 3rd when true Freshman ILB Kendall Money returns an INT for a TD. Then in the 4th quarter, we catch a break when TE Chris Hatcher recovers his own teammate's fumble and runs it in 20 yards for the tying TD. With 3 minutes left, we get the ball back and Koepke leads a 7 play, 75 yard drive for the winning TD.

Week 4: Kansas (1-1) at Florida Tech (0-2)

We were on the verge of taking a 17-0 lead late in the 1st half, but Koepke has a pass picked off at the 2 yard line and it is returned 98 yards for a TD. Florida Tech actually scores midway through the 3rd to take a 14-13 lead. The College Years

Kansas Roster, Scout Overview

Player # Pos Elig Current Estimate Future Estimate
Koepke, Al 16 QB Sr 47 47

Alcott, Edward 10 QB So* 30 41
Howland, Joe 11 QB Fr 21 43
Rhodes, Joe 8 QB* Jr* 7 39

Koepke might be the best right now, but we're going nowhere with him and Alcott has a better Avoid INT rating. So we'll start building for the future.

Morton, Grant 49 RB Sr 27 41
Hill, Nathan 39 RB Sr 26 34
Borders, Lenny 28 RB So* 22 50
Atwell, Bert 33 RB Fr 25 38

Gardiner, Oliver 24 FB Sr* 40 40
Fields, Donovan 37 FB Sr* 29 41
Giese, Michael 30 FB So* 47 60

Atwell's bars look better than his overall numbers, so I'll give him a shot right away. Giese will also start as a True Freshman, and he's already the best player on our team.

Henderson, Oscar 95 TE Sr 45 62
Hatcher, Chris 89 TE Sr 31 53

McGee, Roy 2 WR So* 37 55
Banks, Leon 82 WR Fr 23 56

Hoping McGee can make some big plays for us this year. Our two TE set looks pretty good.

Kinchen, Wally 66 T So* 24 40
Bourke, Bart 67 T Fr 1 37
King, Harry 62 T* So 3 29

All sorts of problems here. Some decent potential, but almost no depth at all. I only have two scholarship Guards, so Christianson will have to play well before he's ready.

Zeigler, Lawrence 15 P Sr 53 69

Bartoszek, Kenneth 3 K Jr* 22 27
Szalay, Gabe 17 K Fr 19 65

Szalay could develop into a good Kicker. Ziegler will get lots of action again this year. He had 71 punts last season.

Another case where I need my young guys to stay healthy and I have to play True Freshmen before they're ready.

Cervantes, J.C. 51 OLB* Sr 0 0
Blake, Bucky 52 OLB* So 8 22

Money had a terrific season last year, but hasn't developed as much as I'd like. Neither has Terry. Tobeck forced into early action.

Monroe, Daryl 41 CB Sr 41 60
Momberg, Chuck 42 CB Sr 31 58
Stargell, Rusty 29 CB So* 37 68

Gargiulo, Jerald 20 S Fr 18 59
Perez, Ryan 31 S Fr 15 40

CB's are pretty solid. Starting two True Freshmen at Safety because my other guys are weak at Man-to-Man Defense.

Week 1: Florida Atlantic (0-0) at Kansas (0-0)

A promising debut to the season. FAU isn't a very good team, but they were ranked higher than us to start the season (65th to 96th). The Freshmen play really well, especially QB Edward Alcott, who leads a 4th quarter game tying TD drive, then completes a miracle hail mary to win the game with no time left on the clock.

Week 2: Kansas (1-0) at Wyoming (0-0)

We just get decimated by penalties this one, committing 16 for 191 yards. This set us back on several drives and forced us to settle to FG's or punt after 3rd and longs, which our offense is well suited to convert. Two long drivesin the 4th quarter ended up being turnovers on downs and we failed to complete the comeback.
