Who's had the flu?

I've had it once in October and now again at the moment.

I read somewhere that this year's flu shot was somewhere around 12% effective....doesn't seem worth the bother.

I've never gotten the flu. It helps that Idaho is one of the least impacted areas. Hoping I can Dodge it another year.

Think I got it beginning of December while traveling home from Europe. Felt like crap for a few days but I think the flu shot may have reduced the duration.

I caught this in October and I literally threw up for about 12 straight hours. Plus my kidneys were so painful that I couldn't even sleep in between hurling. I mean I literally thought it was possible that I was going to die at some point if it didn't end soon. I couldn't even keep down aspirin in order to ease my pain.

Isn't the flu shot for the cold type of flu and not the stomach flu?

The stomach flu is not a true flu, it is usually norovirus or rotavirus. The flu shot protects against influenza strains which generally causes respiratory symptoms along with aches, fevers, etc but not generally GI symptoms.

I just got over Bronchitis after visiting my brother and his family. Over a week between his wife and two daughters they had been diagnosed with Bronchitis, flu, mono, strep, and croup between the three of them. I got the bronchitis.

I had it last week. Vomited all day Saturday morning and then it sort of transformed into a cold-type situation for the rest of the week. Not good times.

Well, when you frame it like that, bronchitis seems like a pretty good deal.

I got lucky. Had a bad fever a couple weeks ago and went into the doc the next day as half my family had been hit hard. Diagnosed me with the flu and put me on Tamaflu. Two days later I was fine. I hadn't really thought much of Tamaflu in the past - but given how quick I went through the flu, I'm a believer now.

Been sick for the last week, although not the stomach version that others have described above. Just a persistent cough and a lot of sinus issues.

By comparison, this is the first time that I've missed 2+ days of work and first time I can ever recall being sick for more than 4-5 days. So while the symptoms haven't been uber-severe, I've been really vexed by my inability to get better.

The visit to the doctor's office, around Day 4 of being sick, could not have been more worthless.

I get a flu shot every year, even if the upgrades aren't really worth it.

Nothing here yet, but I work at a hotel so I am concerned about it. Considering wearing a face mask if the flu is still passing around once we start getting into the busy season. Thankfully its usually pretty dead this time of year. Particularly concerned about the ball and chain, as resilient as she is, she is about a week from delivering kid number 2 and I don't want there to be any complications.

I normally get a flu shot every year. This year I've procrastinated and with all the warnings, finally got one at Walgreens. The pharmacist said it was 10% effective this year but figure it can't hurt.
