May not be the right place to ask the question, but hey, I'm new and can't find the answer anywhere else, so if it isn't, shoot me

Does FOF2 work under Windows NT? I'm installing it on my work laptop, got the licence, start it up and I get a little box saying "Failed to create empty document". Is the prblem me, trying to install it NT - I know it says Win 95/98 in the blurb but these things normally work on NT too! Maybe I'm stuck playing it on my 98 machine at home:(

Cheers

Ian

Hi MrP,

guess what, it is supposed to be the place to ask for FOF...

(memo to Skydog : see, MrP comes here, he is new..and has no idea if he can ask a FOF related question on this board !!! don't you thing there's something wrong here ???)

I'm a FOF2 player and I'd love to help on this but I have never tested it on NT so can't answer.
Anyway, you're right, this is the place to ask this.
Hopefully someone will come with an answer, if not, bump this thread up from time to time until someone answers.

If the error is cannot create document its possible that the problem is purely admin related - are you running as a user with Administrator priviledges?

(if not then try giving that a whirl)

1. The first part of the IP address of you and MrP are unique to only the two of you. No one else on this board shares those first six digits.

2. The post is about an outdated version of FOF--a version which you have been supporter #1 of for quite some time.

3. The poster pre-supposes that this "may not be the right place to post this" and even rolls his eyes. Odd behavior for someone who just happened to do a google search, found this board (entitled "Front Office Football Central", and posted his question.

4. The post appeared when you were in the midst of complaining that this board doesn't talk about FOF enough.

5. You immediately responded to the post, espousing it as "proof" of your argument, even though you had no clue how to help the guy.

That's all I have to say on the matter.

Thanks for the replies chaps - rest assured I am not Darkiller, nor have I ever been.

in reply, yep, I'm running with full Administrator priviliges (not that I know what to do with them), the directory and all the files have full access open.

The reason I hesitated to ask here is that some boards are kinda twitchy if you put a foot in the wrong place.....

Skydog..and suddently you look stupid.

If you don't "have the time" then don't write this whole scenario...for bullshit since you see it is not me.

(btw, to answer your point #2 and #5 : I indeed replied quickly to it when I saw this tread was about FOF2. Always try to when it is FOF2 related)

The evidence doesn't prove that it IS you (or someone you put up to it), but neither does it prove it ISN'T you (or someone you put up to it). This isn't a court of law, and it will never be proved beyond reasonable doubt either way, but I've got 5 strong bits of circumstances, and all you can come up with is "because MrP said so!!!" That's rich.

well then take some valuable time to make full researches. I invite you to do so.
What else can I say : I swore it is not me nor someone I put to it. I can't do more than invite you to make a complete research to "prove my innocence" (man o man)

Erm, guys, would you like to take your little pissing contest somewhere else. All I want is to find out whether FOF works/doesn't work/can be made to work under NT so I can play the bloody thing at lunchtimes at work.

I have no desire to be caught in a crossfire between two people with a "issue" with each other, and even less desire to know what it's about.

And you wonder why I hesitate to post to boards like this when all I want is an answer to a simple question........

Cheers

Seriously, this fourm is titled Front Office Football Central, General Discussion. Why would you ask if it's the right place to ask the question?

Just wondering if the people around here are that intimidating. :)

I'm intimidated by you guys. Honest. I am.

By asking the question, I had hoped to avoid all the replies saying "Are you f***ing stupid, EVERYONE knows the place for those questions is over in blahblablah forum" Well, I avoided it, only to be caught in someone's personal flame war. Oh well, it's asbestos pants time again.

I think MIJB#19 had this problem too, as he had NT on some machine and couldn't play FOF2 on it. They just don't mix.

3ric, FOF2 is working pretty well on NT4.

So did the TCY demos.
FOF4 demo? never tested that.

Dola (MrP, dola is a word only used at this forum and the place where they call this forum "overthere".)

Though FOF2 works excellent, I do save my games before draft days, somehow drafts seem to cause errors about once every 25 drafts.

The only problem was when I wanted to install the game, though that ended up as a no problem.

Got two replies on this topic, one from solecismic and one from elicense support.

solecismic - seem to think it's something to do with the wrapper ea put on the game but that there's a resolution out there for it but don't know what it is.

elicense - one liner saying the game doesn't work under NT.

Who to believe...hmmmm. My money's on solecismic but I'm kinda stuck again.

LOL.

The game works under NT4, I've been playing FOF2 on an NT machine for 3 years!

The "Failed to create and empty document" is a fairly common Windows NT 4.0 error, and not directly tied to FOF. What has happened is that you have descended into DLL hell. There is a DLL or OCX file that FOF uses that has been replaced/downgraded/changed by another piece of software. You might try an uninstall/reinstall to see if that helps. Another thing to try is to put the directory where you installed FOF at the front of your PATH environment variable.

Good luck!
