View Full Version : TCY: Oddball formations and how to deal with?

Maybe I'm just imagining this, but I seem to remember someone posting a utility that would allow your offensive depth charts to adjust accordingly if you used a formation that didn't use the traditional one RB and one FB set.

If there is no such utility, how do you (or is this possible?) adjust your backfield depth chart to accomodate primary formations that do not employ the 1 RB/1 FB/2 WR offensive sets?

In other words, if I'm running the wishbone, is there someway I can distinguish between LHB and RHB, and make each position two-deep on the depth chart (i.e. allow you to go four-deep at RB--two for each RB slot)? Or if my primary formation is, say, trips, it's kind of pointless to show my three deep at FB when what I really need is a listing of my six top WRs.

Thanks in advance,

Gary

P.S. is it just me or are WRs the most prone to injuries in TCY? Nine years out of 10, I can go the full year with my RBs going unscathed injury-wise, but I cannot recall a season in which at least 2 of my top 5 WRs didn't go down during each season with some sort of significant injury. Which, if you're operating out of a single-back or trips formation, can be very hazardous to your team--unless of course you're carrying 9 or more non-redshirt WRs on your roster.

Sorry I cannot help you with the utility.

However...

I would say the exact same thing, except I would substitute the defensive linemen for WRs in my experience. DBs rarely ever seem to get injured.

Welcome to the board, by the way (although it sounds as if you've been lurking for awhile at least).

Heh, good point...now that you mention it, I can remember a few CBs going down, but I cannot ever recall one of my safeties missing time with an injury.

The WR quandary got so bad that I now only use offensive formations using 2 (vis-a-vis 3) WRs. Due to the injuries when I was using trips formation, I had to recruit 3 WRs each year (so that I'd have enough depth the following year), which could be somewhat troublesome, in that getting that 3rd WR commitment usually meant offering to a WR with a mid-50s scouting rating. Heh, that can get hairy...you're in Week 12, with say, 13 commitments, and you've got a boatload of guys visiting with ratings of 70 and up; it's pretty agonizing to revoke offers to some of those guys so that you can ensure that you get a 3rd WR with a 54+ rating.

I know what you mean. It seems a shame to waste a scholarship on sub par players for the sake of depth. However, I'm guessing this is not far from reality. What real life coaches have in this case, is the advantage of better being able to switch positions. It would be nice if in TCY, players were rated at two positions. For example a G/DT. He could be a better guard with ratings such as 83/61. In that case, he could fill a DT position in case of emergency without the big penalty of switching positions.

FWIW, I've lost WR's, DB's and DL's in pretty similar proportions over an awful lot of seasons. About the only position I can't remember ever being truly crippled for at one point or another is the OL.

Wow, you're recruiting a 54+ guy three-deep at a position? I wouldn't complain too hard. I have never played TCY with a monster-prestige program, but at all the schools I've run that would be a luxury.

On a slightly OT note, one aspect of TCY that really burns me is the injury-induced mid-game walk-ons. Man, I just yesterday had tight ends dropping like flies, and all of a sudden I've got two popular bozos added to my roster. Grrrr!
