Hey everybody I have a quick question. I have Adaware, which I found thanks to the suggestions of those of you here at the FOFC. I scan my hard drive on a regular basis, but something called "Purity Scan" shows up occasionally in my task bar, so I just right click out of it. I was wondering if anyone knows if this is spyware or a similar device, or if this is something that is supposed to be on my computer. Thanks for the help.
PS- I always ask here since many of you know all about this kind of stuff. ;)

Its not supposed to be there.
The only time(s) I had it was after installing Grokster. It is a data-miner. Sends out info on what you do online if I remember right.

I don't want to start anyrthing here but.....I think this needs to be brought up. I downloaded a utility from one of the guys on this board. (I WILL NOT MENTION THEIR NAME-SO DON't ASK). He made this utility. After I downloaded it I kept getting "pop-ups" even though I was not online (perse) I have a cable modem however. These pop-ups would occur out of no where. I also noticed that "purity scan" in my registry as well. After I figured out what was causing the problem (the utility that I downloaded) I deleted the files and uninstalles the utility. The pop-ups went away right away. However, purity scan was still there. The only way I got rid of it was by reformatting the HD.

So, does anyone know of any other way to get rid of this thing besides reformatting my HD?
Edit: Ad Aware cannot find this thing and when I do a search, including hidden files, it doesn't come up either. Any ideas??

In fact this is how I found the purity scan thing. Like I asked, however, did you download anything recently...maybe even from here?

Vulcan-
Thanks for the help. I'll check out that program. I don't remember downloading anything recently, but Purity Scan has been on my computer for awhile. I found a link which may be useful, I'm trying to follow the steps now. Also www.purityscan.com has an uninstaller, but that hasn't worked for me. Check out the link below. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks.

If that doesnt work for you, try SpyBot Destroyer. It focuses on spyware stuff where Ad-Aware is for ads and reg. files mainly. Sorry dont have the link for it, search for it on any search engine and it will come up.
After you install it and are going to use it, make sure you click their "online" button and download the updates.
