Hey, I got a laptop earlier in the year, and have this crappy speaker (note, its singular). Anyway, since I'm going to be living in the dorms next year, I was looking for a decent set of computer speakers, but I don't have any clue where to begin. I guess I'm looking for relatively small ones, but I'd also like a sub so I can listen to music with a bit of bass (because I know how those small speakers play it). Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Personally for me, I really love my Inspire 5300's. They're about 90 bucks so not in the uber expensive branch of PC speakers and they sound fantastic. Depends on how much you want to spend though. :)

edit: Of course I didn't pay attention to the fact you were wanting stereo speakers. So, ignore me.

Well, its not just stereo, I just want speakers that are decent and not really expensive.

Oh if that's the case, then I fully put my recommendation on those. Excellent quality in them, and it saves you the 2-300 bucks from buying the Klipsh's or the fancy Cambridge ones.

You also might want to check out the Logitech line of speakers. The 680's are pretty expensive and comparable to Klipsch ones, but they have other models that are cheaper.

Altec Lansing makes a pair of speakers that take up almost no room, which I used while I was in college and loved the desk space I saved. I am not sure what the current model # is but they are sold at best buy.

I have some Bose speakers, about $99 at BestBuy i think. They are frickin GREAT!!!!!!!! Being Bose of course they are small, and have great sound. I use them for my laptop AND for the tv/vcr. U can get a sub and plug it into them if you want, but in my opinion they don't really need it. I HIGHLY recommend these speakers if ya got the money for them. They have different ones, but i think the ones i have are the cheapest....BestBuy only had the ones i got, none of the other Bose speakers.

I know Klipsch are excellent, but if you want to spend less money, Altec Lansing make decent cheaper speakers.
Head out to Best Buy or somewhere you can listen to different models, then go with the ones you like for the price. It's much eaiser to save money when you can't tell much difference in some expensive speakers vs some cheaper ones.

I would personally avoid Altec Lansing speakers. It's worth it to spend a few bucks more and get Cambridge Soundworks, Monsoon or any of the higher end brands. They're really not that expensive and sound several times better.

I got a set of Altec Lansings with my computer a few years ago: THX certified, 4 speakers and a big sub. Of course, I found out Klipsch finally entered the PC speaker market about 3 days after I ordered it, and had a great set for less money. My Altec Lansings work great, but I probably would have bought Klipsch had I known they were available.

I ended up getting the Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker set. The desktop speakers are great and also have a very small base, so they take up hardly any room at all. The sub is also quality. It came down between these and the Creative Labs 2.1 set, but I liked the quality better listening to them at Best Buy, and even though the cost was greater, that's what graduation gifts are for, right?
Thanks for the help.
