Situation:
Late season Week 15 completed
Best starting NT on playoff bound team (34 Eagle) down for 5 weeks.
Our team is the likely top seed at 12-2...need 1 more win to entirely guarantee that...so we have 1 "important" game in the next 2...in either case we will at least have a 1st Rd BYE.
My usual Nickle D pass rush DE Has far better numbers than my 2nd NT,,,

The question: Is there a penalty for playing out of position? Rather than trying to sign a DT free agent for a few games and cut someone to make room.
The DE says under the change position tab that his height is above average and weight below average...didnt want to change his position just for a few games either, just to see the comparison.

I have played other defenders out of position a few times...a couple of games against a pass heavy team I put a SS in as the LB in the "4-5 WR" defense...but that was mostly just a brainstorm idea...seemed to do well, but no solid data on whether that Safety kept his "safety ratings" at LB either.

Thanks anyone!

I guess my question boils down to... is an 81 DE with RD 67 PRT 78 PRS 70
really going to play better at NT than a 41 NT with 54 35 49 in those categories.
Does the position weigh more than the rating numbers

I don't actually know the answer, but I do know one of the variables you left out here is actual height and weight numbers. Guessing no one would suggest a 260 lb DE play NT, but the closer you get to ideal the more likely it makes sense

Thank you...yes the Hgt Wgt were the main reason i checked...the ratings are awesomely better, but he is a tall lanky pass rush specialist at 6 7 288

No one can tell you exactly how much but size and weight def matter. Listed position on D does not matter.

Many GMs play undersized 34OLBs, 34DEs and DTs of all sorts regardless.

I track +/- and con confirm that size matters a good bit but like everything in this game, how much exactly is not defined.

I rather like that it isnt defined...more real to have to experiment..just also dont want to use a loophole to cheat

Thanks you guys!
