Just announced that the US will be hosting the 2031 Rugby World Cup. So 9 years to improve the 5 year old Major League Rugby professional league that is here. There are more than enough college football players that didn't make the NFL that could be retrained for rugby to bolster the player pool, if they can get the funding.

I'm going to be in Lyon, France next year for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. My parents are having their delayed 50th anniversary trip to Europe next year where they are going to spend three months. I'll join them for a couple of weeks to see the opening round games in Lyon.

I love 7's, one of the most exciting sports out there and the US should be able to dominate since it is such a speed game

Awesome news… we are moving to Switzerland and hadn’t even realized the RWC was in Europe next year, so I’ll definitely circle that on the calendar. And great news for the game in the US for the future as well.

Different game. This is 15 a side and a very technical sport.

The US will not dominate, there’s just no way you will catch up - if you match what Japan did when they hosted in 2019 (QF) it will be a success

Not gonna lie, Im not a huge fan of how the sosport has been re-made.

BUT I will be going to games. New bucket list item.

I LOVE 7s. Best tourneys, best parties.

I do agree with this, in as much as since the game turned professional in the 90s, while the technical and physical levels are significantly higher, it's just not as exciting for those same reasons

We got our ticket assignments for the 5 matches we are going to in Lyon. For the Uruguay/New Zealand match, we are in row 2 right at the midfield line!

The 2023 Rugby World Cup starts today with the host nation France playing New Zealand. Twelve more days until I fly to Lyon to watch the 5 group stage matches that will be held there.

If you need a reason to root against the home side, they recently called up a player who's facing a six month sentence for a "racially motivated assault" on another player. (He's appealing the sentence)

Looks like we'll be seeing some 7s rugby in Lyon. The day after I get there, we got tickets to a French league national Super 7s tournament.
