:+1:
I was super-bummed when they removed Touch for '22, since I absolutely do not have the free time to play the full version. I'll have to do some reading as to why/how (like, is it revamped) they brought it back, because when they announced it wouldn't be in '22 one of the reasons was declining sales. Maybe lots of folks came back and said they'd buy it? I mean, I will.

I wish there would be an AI coach, so you could do your typical GM functions, and automate the actual in-game tactics to the "coach".

100% agree. I've been waiting for the ability to play as sporting director, but I doubt it ever happens.

Beta is now out.
And considering events in the UK, I'd be worried about the release date.
Why?
Release Date Announcement, Queen Elizabeth passes.
Beta Release Day? Prime Minister resigns.
These things DO come in threes, you know...

I want to like FM, but eventually gave up on it. Just too much 'unrewarding work' for me. I.e. repetitive team talks/media interactions, impenetrable tactics controls and unclear results of many of those options, etc.
I salute those of you who still get value out of the game.

FM Touch is still fun without the busy work, but they discontinued it (on PC) with '22.

Downloading now. In lieu of having a regular beta save, this year I am going to create one manager with all the badges for a CL club and one with nothing at all for a LL club. Then just play around with both clubs to familiarize myself with the game. I am about 95% sure I will start my journeyman save in South Africa. Just need to find a club now.

They had me at "easier/more free flowing scouting" considering it's the area i enjoy a lot but spend too much time on. Although i definitely would say this is otherwise a version one could well skip. Still, here i am, deciding on a Beta save...

I was planning on waiting for a sale and sticking with FM22 for a good few months, but I read a link today about FM23 having the new Champions League format starting in 24/25 so that was enough to loosen my wallet.

I am enjoying the game so far but I can see why some will say that it is just a roster upgrade and skip this year's version. I am someone who does not have to commute to work, does not have small children, has narrowed my gaming focus to only sports text sims etc. In short, I have the time and patience to treat my FM experience very much like a 2nd job albeit one that have a great time but don't actually get paid.
For example, I absolutely love the squad planner. It is great to see what my squad is expected to look like over a three year period. But for me, the biggest plus in this area is that I no longer have to write anything out on paper. I was doing this before just in written form. For those who don't care that deeply to go into such depth or are fine with keeping their pen and legal pad, this feature is just a nice add on if that.

They announced FM 24 for early November. Looks to be the same game but they're going with a new engine for FM 25. Features for FM 24 are pretty unexciting.
Of note if you want to play the mobile version you'll have to be a Netflix member.

There are "Instant Result" skins, where your staff manages the game. The problem with that is that you don't get to see the game.
I just want to hand off the control to my assistant, and watch the game. I don't know enough about soccer to properly control a team. But I like to do the training and team management between games.

I believe it's always on game pass. It does disappear with each new version, however. FM 23 is currently free through Prime Gaming. I generally play the new version on game pass when it comes out and then get it free once it's at the end of its life through epic or Amazon.

It's a bit of a PITA but you could probably get close by asking your assistant for tactics every 2 weeks or a month, letting him pick the team and then implementing every single tactical tweak/sub that he suggests during the match. I imagine that gets you basically the same outcome as the instant result skin does in the background minus some delay in implementing the recommendations?
In general I don't know why they don't just add this option as a first class citizen as it seems like especially in the US there's a lot of people who want to play this way.

Here's how importing save games from FM23 to FM24 will work:
Football Manager 2024: Feature Rollout and New Partnerships | Football Manager 2024 (https://www.footballmanager.com/news/football-manager-2024-feature-rollout-and-new-partnerships)
Back in June, I was delighted to let you all know that FM24 would include one of the most requested features over the last 20 years - the ability to transfer saved games from one edition of FM to the next.
Now, I can go into more detail as to how it will work and confirm the platforms that it will be possible on.
Anyone who is not ready to step away from their existing save in Football Manager 2023 (PC/Mac), Football Manager 2023 Console (Xbox/PS5) or Football Manager 2023 Touch (Nintendo Switch™), will be able to continue that career into FM24, FM24 Console or FM24 Touch and benefit from this year’s new additions in the process. Unfortunately, this won’t be possible for FM24 Mobile, although it’s something our team are exploring for the future.
When you load FM24, FM24 Console or FM24 Touch for the first time, you’ll see a panel directly above ‘Start a New Game’ that reads ‘Load FM23 Saved Games’. This panel contains details about how transferring saves works and allows you to begin the process of bringing a game forward from FM23.
All of the relevant new features in FM24, FM24 Console or FM24 Touch will be present in any saves you bring over. In some cases that will result in certain items or tutorials triggering immediately after you convert your save, while you’ll need to set some other things up from scratch.
The panel I mentioned won’t appear again on subsequent launches but don’t worry, you’ll still be able to load FM23 games into FM24. To do this, go into the Load Game menu and follow the instructions explaining where you’ll find old saves and how to bring them across.
Note that there are a couple of things not possible with transferred save games unfortunately. The first is FM24 achievements (trophies on PS5), which you’ll need to start a new career to accomplish. You also won’t be able to watch replays of matches played in FM23, as these aren’t carried across when converting.
Thanks.
That at least means it might be worthwhile to see if the near unbearable control scheme (on console) is worth trying to either figure out how to navigate fluidly or is simply beyond hope.
You can use mouse and keyboard to play it in the Xbox.

I remain a little sceptical about that, mainly because they pretty much spell out not to have fixed the underlying issue of the AI depending on just 1 number for their decision. The 'work arounds' they promise have big "if" attached to it.
I mean, in theory the game already has ratings to influence it but the AI didn't utilize them (Manager preference for young/veteran players, Clubs preferences etc) properly.

The subsequent feature reveals were pretty promising, a loooot more new stuff and revamps than the last couple versions. Even a tiny update for national teams ...
New set piece creator with a lot more auto-options but also less micromanaging (i.e. no more having to re-do stuff after switching formations or moving players to different positions).
One really cool feature is the Option to start without current transfers to sort of re-do the summer transfer window OR with them coming in automatically but at the correct date rather than being there from day 1.
Plus a lot of improvements to recently added stuff like the Squad Planner.
Allegedly despite the new stuff runs faster as well, which is always nice.

Same, the reddit and SI board people hate hearing this stuff as they're all purists who play with real players for life, but...I'm all about hiring a ton of staff to handle stuff so I can dive in and out of the save as I want to. It's still too slow at simming, but the detail and immersion kind of makes up for it.

10-18-2023, 07:06 PM
I don't know. I feel like that used to be the case. I now feel like more people than ever are delegating the tasks they hate but those people are also complaining the loudest that the AI staff does not execute the tasks the exact way that they would have if they had did it themselves.

Calling it Early Access now but yeah, sort of a open beta that lets them get feedback to find a few of the rarer/less obvious issues a little bit sooner

Quite disapointing that the new Start option doesn't include being able to start in a way that lets you actually re-do all of the transfer window. (you can do a work around and chose an earlier start date from a smaller league but then f.e. those with expiring contracts IRL get years added onto it by the game).
Also there is a bug with U21/U18 teams in England (no foreigners allowed at unless registered for the 1st team) when importing saves. Bit of a bummer as my favoured FM23 save is actually with Nottingham Forrest in 2030 by now. It'll be fixed i bet but would have been nice to just jump straight in for the first weekend.
One early impression was that the matches really look more organic and processing times are down noticeably (also the UI seems smoother)
miami_fan
10-20-2023, 07:14 PM
I have pulled my last FM23 save over just to see how it worked. The club is in the National League North so no worries about the U21/U18 teams for me. Either way, I have no plans to continue that one until the full version is released.
I started a test save with Arsenal just to see how everything works at the highest level. I agree with the match engine thoughts. I love the new set piece creator. It was always frustrating to have switch players around when you made changes to the lineup. I get the disappointment with the start option. Gooners are pissed that they have to start with Havertz. I guess the fix is to move the start date from July 3rd to June 1st. If you did do the work around, can you see if the Christopher Nkunku transfer to Chelsea went through? It officially went through in June but that was a transfer that was agreed to before the World Cup IIRC.

Alright, been working my butt off on this, and it's ready for outside testing:
Are you tired of MLS's byzantine rule system? Can't tell your Generation Adidas from your designated player (young or otherwise?) Wish that America had promotion and relegation like (insert your favorite nation here)..
Well, it's never going to happen in real life, but at least in FM you can, with this Mod.
It replaces MLS with a three tier American Pyramid in this initial release.
A 30 team American Premier League (all 29 existing MLS teams, along with San Diego, who will be joining MLS in the future). They play a 43 game season (29 games in a single round robin, then the league splits into championship and relegation groups, and each group plays a further round robin, giving 43 games). The Top Six teams qualify for a championship playoff. The bottom four teams drop down to..
A 29 team American Championship Conference (Featuring USL Championship teams and upcoming expansion teams, which I had to create). Similar to the APL, they split into a promotion/relegation group after a single round robin (28 games), where both groups play another single round robin against teams from their group. (this means the promotion group plays a 42 game season, while the relegation group plays a 41 game season. Three teams auto promoted to the APL, while the fourth-seventh place team playoff for a fourth promotion spot. The bottom four teams in the relegation group drop down to..
A 20 team American League One (Featuring USL League One teams and the top USL League Two teams by reputation), playing a 38 game season. Top three promote to the Championship Conference, 4th and 5th play off for the final promotion spot.
A midweek US League Cup, featuring all 79 teams from the three divisions (30 teams from the lower levels play a preliminary round, and the 15 winners join the 49 other teams in a 64 team knockout tournament. The championship is played at the Rose Bowl.
This league is currently feature complete, with TV money, prize money (for both game results (wins and draws in the league earn some money, so every game has something riding on it) and league position), and Parachute payments set.
I have run several test runs through the editor and in game, but let me know of any crashes or issues.
Possibly coming in further versions:
tweaking team and league finances so MLS teams don't dominate more than they already do (right now, the lowest MLS teams in my tests have enough finances to just about instantly bounce back up in most all circumstances).
POSSIBLY adding an USA League Two. (this is iffy, because I'm not 100% sure how to add in all the amateur teams divisions, and rebalancing everything would be a stone cold bitch to do). I also may fold in the teams from Canada's structure into the American Premier League (possibly renaming the APL the North American Premier League)
Recommendation: Tick "Add players to playable teams", because a lot of the non-MLS teams do not have a full roster (which is another reason to look at rebalancing), and add staff to playable teams.

fwiw, I will say that the console version does seem at least ... playable? bearable? in terms of the really-not-made-for-this controls.
No, I haven't tried using the mouse with the XBox to this point. Mine is wired and that'd be a real bitch to switch around, so I'm trying to deal with the controller to see if I can get the hang of it.
Starting out in the lowest available tier (so, third) in Northern Ireland. Queens University is where my son did his overseas study so they felt like a natural place to learn (no pun intended).
I'm also trying to do it with a bit of house rules. IRL they require 75% of the roster to be either current or former students, so I'm limiting myself to signing only 17-22 year old players unless I happen across one that played there previously in their 17-22 years before moving on. Older players already in the club who played here in that age range also count for the 75% afaic.
It's not going to be perfect (I can't find how they define that 75%, match day? contracted overall? something else?) but my intentions are good at least.

Sir Fozzie, I might have to try that. It sounds like a fun way to play in the states. I have never really enjoyed playing in the MLS because the rules for getting players are too convoluted. Trying to start at a low end club and working your way up would be fun. I'm just going to have to decide which city/club I want to start with since Atlanta is already in the MLS.

Sign of the times - an article about this development in which a streamer complains that this is going to cost him $30K in lost YT/Twitch revenues.
I'll keep my "old man shakes fist at clouds" comment to myself.

I read a similar (possibly the same) article and had exactly the same thought!

I believe the only FM youtuber I've seen more than once that I recall is the guy who does stuff with his dad.

What are some of the most fun/fulfilling careers you've had in any FM version? I pretty much always stick to England (like 2nd/3rd/4th tier) because I love the FA Cup, but might be looking to mix it up in the most recent iteration. Has anyone had a lengthy career in another nation, big or small?

My current career (FM21 Touch) I challenged myself to take a blank team newly-promoted into the nation's bottom tier to a) win that nation's top league and b) do well enough that I become a legend, before moving on to another league. My plan was to do the top 6 leagues by UEFA coefficient.
Started in Italy, then Spain, then Portugal, then France, then Germany, and now I have Carshalton in the EPL (England is the longest, of course). Haven't won it yet, but I am a club legend, as well as a club legend of 5 clubs in those 5 other nations. It's currently 2088.
All but one of those teams remained in the top division except the Spanish one (Alfaro), which yo-yos between the Primera & Segunda. Ironically, the very first one, in Italy, Virtus Verona (the "little" Verona club) is easily the most successful, mostly due to a sugar daddy from Russia buying the club after I left. They've won Serie A 13 times and the UCL 3 times and are usually the top reputation club in the world. And their transfer history is hilariously spendy.
Been a lot of fun. Can't help but feel it'll be my last career for a while since full fat takes too much time and this was the last version of Touch. But I'm enjoying it immensely.

Hahaha jesus, Touch still takes a long time if you're up to 2088!!! That's awesome.
I like taking or creating a club in one of the minnow countries that plays in a bigger country (Andorra, San Marino, you've got FC Vaduz in Liechtenstein in the Swiss league too), giving them world class intake, and running both the team and the national team. You're probably not competing for the World Cup title with just one team pulling in players and there's luck of the draw for positions so you need to be flexible with NT tactics but you can get competitive in Nations League etc, and I always had fun seeing almost all the guys in that setup coming through my youth system.

IIRC, I started this save in late 2022. I'll have to look later to see if the game file tells me for sure. But yeah. It's getting to the point where I'll get a "media" post in my inbox about "flere-imsaho will take charge of his 3000th game this weekend". :O

Thanks Foz! I've loaded this up, and I've got a manager who started unemployed, and took a job offer with Flint City Bucks. The universe also has a manager in Argentina, one in Senegal, one Irish/Italian coaching in Wales, and one guy in England (who is the only one who doesn't have an offer yet). Looks like there are only three players on Flint City who aren't grays, but hopefully I can use FM Genie Scout to build a good team -- even if Flint gives me no transfer budget and no payroll.

Does anyone have experience here with getting condition to show as a percentage instead of a heart icon? I had a skin that let me do it (Vince skin) and I had it working, but now, playing it again, it's not there and I can't find it.
If anyone's curious, using FlutDarkSkin I was able to get the percentages back.

Still running this with Flint City (League One). My scouts were able to find only two players willing to sign with us, so I was up to 5, then Little Rock (in Championship) signed one away and I'm down to 4.
My first friendly came up against Marlyand Bobcats. They are even lower in the NISA, so I expected not much of a challenge. I get through the first half and they are up 4-0 on me! I checked their team with Genie Scout, and it's chock full of good players, despite being in a lower league.
Any idea what's going on here?
