Pretty simple. Are you currently living in the state in which you were born?

Yup. All but my 20's have been right here.

For at least a little while longer, yeah.

edit to add: Not real happy about that fact at this point, truly familiarity has bred considerable contempt.

Yes. I was born in Indiana and currently live in Indiana. I did live in Louisville, Kentucky for about seven years as an adult. I may move to another state at some point in the future. We will see.

My mom moved to Oregon when I was 4, so like all my waking memories are here, but still not native technically.

Lived in hometown for five years before parents moved, so consider my hometown to be where I grew up.

However, not lived there either for 20 years, so whichever way you shape it, I’d be a no, if I was American!

Yes but only after moving around for several years.

Born in and lived california my whole life. Of course im exclusively northern california where as i grew up in southern california. In many places the distance would be at least a state over.

Born on an air force base, and moved back to the state my parents grew up in when I was 4 months old. But I don't live in that state anymore either.

Nope.

WI -> MN -> WI -> WY -> WI -> AR -> NV -> WI -> NV

Don't see myself ever going back to Wisconsin despite it continuously pulling me back (didn't realize how many times until I typed this out). I also can't guarantee I'll stay in Nevada. My wanderlust is strong. But for now, I'm so sick of moving (still not done unpacking by a long shot) that I don't see myself leaving for at least another couple years.

I didn't include a year of college in SC because I don't think that counts.

For me, assume state = country. Voted no

I just wish I could get my wife on a plane. We rarely have more than 4 days for any kind of trips, and I really don't want to spend two of those days driving. I would love to take quick flights somewhere to give us more options. She just absolutely refuses to consider it.

Surprised I'm the only (so far...) expat. Granted, not sure I have commented here in years. :)

NY -> FL -> IL -> NY -> Panama -> Germany

Also basically 0% chance of leaving california before retirement. We like it here and all of our credentials are in california (though likely wouldn't be too much trouble to tranfer to other states) and both our pensions are good here (me anywhere in california( hers at her specific hospital)

I've lived in Washington now since '06. The wife is from TX and she thinks about going back there at some point but we love it here.

And this looks like the end of the line for me. I doubt we move anymore, but who knows.

Man, I have lived in the same state > town > same two suburbs (five different dwellings). I am teaching in the same school (35 years) that I went to as a student (6 years).

LA > GA > AK > NC > VA > LA > NC

Expect to stay here, but if one of our kids settles in an awesome place, we might pick up to join them and do the grandparent thing. But, honestly, where we already live (Raleigh) is on every list of best places to retire to. So there's a bit of let's not overthink this.

I've looked at that a lot of times since I work remotely, but I can't figure out if I need to have my employer okay it.

My year in "Virginia" was in Arlington 2 Metro stops outside of DC.

It feels weird to say I lived in Virginia, even though it was technically true.

For the Portuguese visa, you need a letter showing a contract of at least a year or something from your employer showing remote work.

FWIW I tried 3 Japanese restaurants in Porto & Santiago. They were all pretty sad.

Have also been to Portugal, stuck to the regional cuisine, fared better. :)
