View Full Version : FOF9 - Division size limit

The text file reference for league_info is very clear that there's a limit to the number of divisions, 8. Makes sense, there's only room for 8 of them in the layout.
But is there a limit to how many teams can be in a division? I don't see a reference to it anywhere.
I'm trying to create a league with 8 divisions of 10 teams each. Everything loads fine, except when I look at the standings, teams 9 and 10 just aren't there. I'm the schedule, games involving those teams aren't there.
However, the rosters for the teams are there. I used a preference draft, and whizzed through it, so I'm only assuming they were part of it, since they have a full roster.
I guess it could relate to a maximum league size, but it seems to relate to divisions. Anyone had a similar issue?

I am under the impression that deviating from the built-in templates is either really difficult or impossible. Like there isn’t going to be any kind of logic to build a schedule.

You can create x_y_z_schedule files to build your own schedules -- you just have to:
1. Have your xxxx_info file point to that schedule file.
2. Put a row in your league_info file for that schedule, where you set the number of weeks in a season, number of divisions, number of playoff teams, number of teams in each division, and maybe some other things.
3. Put teams for that schedule in your default_teams file.
That's what I do (though I may be missing something), and it generates whatever league structure I want (within its constraints), with whatever schedule I want. It does crash pretty often though.

Okay, that’s good to know. Good luck as you are in territory I didn’t dare go down. ;)

Thanks. It's okay, if no one here knows anything, I'll just move on to my next idea.

Ran another test with a 32-team league, with divisions sized 6, 6, 8, 12. Still seeing this weirdness -- teams 9-12 in that last division have rosters, but are not in the standings, and any games with them are not showing up. So it's not a maximum league size issue, must be a maximum division size issue. So weird, it's like these teams are shadow-banned from the league. I can even make trades with them.

FYI -
The convention for naming a schedule is x_y_z, where x is the total number of teams in the league, y is the number of divisions and z is the number of regular-season games. The only structure requirement is that there must be two conferences with the same number of divisions. That way, the league year can end with a championship game. Teams are limited to eight divisions and eight teams per division, so no league can be larger than 64 teams.
Also, any lessons learned would be appreciated. I am working a new league format with 40 teams/8 divisions. I finished a year one schedule and am now working the home/away settings. Next up I will work the needed files and complete some graphics. Doing a schedule was a bitch but I kept it simple. I will/want to work in at least 2 more schedules to rotate confernece and division match ups but that will be after I have a working set of files.

Thanks -- of course now when I look I see exactly what you showed!
I've got my schedule set up the way I want it for the dynasty I'm working on now, but I have it in mind to go back to my previous one, and work it with 64 teams. My plan then will be to stretch the limit (if any) to how many games there can be in a season. I would love for all 64 teams to play each other round-robin, but there simply aren't enough weeks in a year for that. So....I dunno. We'll see what happens.
