Can anyone give me a quick walkthrough if you have a moment.

Do I edit the teams in the default_teams.csv for the league structure I wish to create and then simply choose that structure when starting a new gane? Or is there more to it?

Here's how I do it:

1. Yes, edit the teams in default_teams.csv with your league structure. The key is the first column, the 32_8_17 or whatever. That's 32 teams, 8 divisions, 17 games. If your structure is already in the sheet, you can just replace those teams with your teams. If you have a different structure, just add it at the bottom.
2. Next, edit the league_info.csv file. Make sure you have a row with the same first column as the key from default_teams -- it doesn't have to be x_y_z but that's a good way to help identify what kind of league you're dealing with. Again, you can either replace a row or put in a new one. You don't want more than one row for each x_y_z value though.
3. Next, go into the custom_example folder, and create a .csv file called xxxx_info.csv -- you can just take the example_info.csv file and rename it for the year you want. Make sure you put in the same x_y_z value you had for the other two files, put in your year, and then the rest of the stuff should match what you put in league_info. I usually keep the xxxx_info.csv file in the custom_example folder because that's where the game sets you up to find it.
4. Not necessary, but you can create xxxx_players.csv and xxxx_quarterbacks.csv if you want to have real players in the league. I also put them in the custom_example folder. If you want your league to be completely fictional, don't worry about this -- the game will give you a pop up warning you that you don't have real players, but it will proceed.
5. Open the game, or restart it if it's already open. Make sure "use Front Office Football Player file" is NOT checked. Click Continue. Then make sure "Use Your Own Player File Set" IS checked. Click "Choose Custom File Set" and select the xxxx_info.csv file. From there, the game lets you choose from some pretty self-explanatory options.

Happy to help if you encounter any weirdness or questions!

Thanks so much for this!

I'll give it a go.

Take your time. Identify your teams, diivision breakdowns, their specific data (colors, city, etc.). If you apply graphics ensure you align them to the team ID. I have a couple of leagues posyed here and you could DL one and look over the files and see how they are configured as a reference, if that would help at all.

Whatever you do do not create a 40 team league!

(inside joke - but don't do it!)

I haven't had a chance to test yet but I think I've followed the steps you've outlined, choose a structure, rename teams and nicknames and assign conference and divisions in the deafult_teams.csv and then renamed the conferences and divisions etc. in the league_info.csv and then edited and renamed the example_info.csv to suit.

Whilst I'm happy to fire it up and use the game generated players, if I wanted to use Ben's fictional player file, what would I need to edited to use it in conjunction with the league I've created?

I kinda remember Ben making a file, but I don't know the details of it. You'll probably need to make sure it matches the year that you are starting the league.

1. The files should be renamed as xxxx_players.csv and xxxx_quarterbacks.csv and put in the custom_example folder with the xxxx_info.csv file.
2. You want to make sure that, within those csv files, your years also match. There's a column somewhere in the middle called YEARENTRY, and one at the far right, called something like BASEYEAR. The first big block should be the year your league starts, and if there are more, they'll be labeled with the next year up (these guys will enter the league your 2nd year). There's a couple other columns you'd want to update too -- stuff like BIRTHYEAR, pretty much anything with a year, add or subtract the same number of years that you did to the other columns so you don't have weird stuff like 60 year old or 10 year old players and everything lines up right.

Place the Ben player and quarterback files in the custom_examples folder. Rename them to correspond with your league name and the league_info file. With that it should use them when you begin your league.
