Watched F1 today, along with Sinners. F1 felt very much like an updated "Days of Thunder". Enjoyable film but not the most orginal feeling film. Sinners on the other hand was definitely not standard fare. Good movie. I will say didn't see "most nominated movie ever" in it, but a good movie. I have already seen "One Battle After Another" and "Marty Supreme". I enjoyed MS better, but I feel like the awards would like OBAA better. Now I will be shocked if Sinners doesn't come away as the big winner of the night after the mass noms.

Not sure if there will be a big winner - it's OBAA if anybody, but it won't be Sinners. The win is the nominations.

Mrs Bobble and watched One Battle After Another last night. Well, tried to watch. We gave it an hour and a half of it's two and a half hours. Not particularly funny or clever. I didn't like any of the characters. Interesting topic and the acting was good but we were watching on HBO+ with the cheapass option where there are commercials every now and then. Every commercial break we kind of looked at each other to see if we wanted to continue. We rarely bail out of a movie but we felt there was a better use of our time. If you cant get me to like your movie before halfway through, your movie is not for me.

I've got my Oscar nominations spreadsheet ready, but this year I'm too cheap to pay for Netflix/HBO and too scaredy cat/honest to download them and put them on my Plex server. So I think I'm stuck with access to only three of the ten.
F1 was ok, not as good as the old James Garner Grand Prix movie.

That was my wife with Sinners. She stayed confused through most of the beginning of the movie, and was hardly interested. Then the action started, and that got her more. I was glad it was not over the top gory or full of cheap jump scares. I found the movie overall uneven and has some inconsistencies in the story that throws me off.

Sometimes I think the critics are so jaded from watching so many movies that a good old-fashioned fun movie isn't novel enough to keep their interest. Something a little more off the wall gets their attention and their nomination.
The wife and I had a similar experience with Sideways a long time ago. Lots of great accolades from movie experts but we hated it.

Heavy crave for something different. Plus they love a movie with more "daring" cinematics and crazy complicated shots. OBAA was shot with special cameras that haven't been in use since the original "Star Wars" saga, and has now been used in this and another film critic darling "The Brutalist". I was noticing shots like the one in "Sinners" where they send a little girl across the street to get someone, and they one shotted the whole thing with girl and then returning with the woman. Like a lot of film for no real good reason other than to show off filming technique. There are a couple other long silent shots in that movie that just seemed out of place.

And Sinners wins for Cinematography and Best Actor, but OBAA takes the two big ones (Directing and Best Movie). Both won for screenplay (Original, Adaption). It was an interesting night that these two films seemed neck and neck all the way through. I felt like whoever won Best Director would win Best Picture and that is how it played out.

Been gambling on Oscar night for years and years. Betting sports longer than that as I used to run football pools in high school back when there was no such thing as the internet. Cant say that on most message boards without ppl freaking out about it, but here in the FOFC were good.
That said, something happened to me last night that was a first.
An Oscar awarded was a tie and of course it involved one of my wagers. Kumail Nanjiani is the presenter so Im a bit sketched out like this is some kind of a comedic put on. Like waiting for the ball to drop so to speak but it was literally a 2 way tie and both parties were awarded.
OSCARS - LIVE ACTION SHORT FILM
It was announced that it had in fact happened before but that was a first for me. Just when I thought I'd seen it all.

I thought it was maybe a bit as well and told my wife that would be shitty if it was.
How did they grade the wager?

They split the wager in half and paid just half essentially treating it like an asian soccer total. Thankfully it was plus money but still kinda sucked.

Interesting. I was wondering what they did for Oscar pools? I'm guessing you got credit for guessing either but I don't know.
Yeah, it has actually happened 7 times I believe i saw. Most recently in like 2012.
