And both Iowa and Minnesota have taken a back seat to Wisconsin in both major sports.

Sigh. So true. But Iowa's basketball program is about to take the next step. This team is going to be a good one.

JPhillips 09-18-2017 04:25 PM

When you boys out west figure out who's going to finish second, the big boys in the east will be waiting!

It was much more fun with Legends and Leaders when Wisconsin could pound up on Nebraska in the Big Ten Championship Game when Ohio State was on probation :)

lungs 09-18-2017 04:43 PM

Dola

I think this is the best Wisconsin team since the Russell Wilson team in 2011. Not to say I guarantee they are as good as Ohio St. or Penn State but I don't see any 59-0 championship games like Ohio St vs Wisconsin a few years ago.

I also don't see any competition from the Iowa's and Minnesota's of the world though Wisconsin always loses a stupid game. It just won't be against Minnesota :)

JPhillips 09-18-2017 05:32 PM

Wiscy could hang in the east, but it's clearly a one team division at this point.

tarcone 09-18-2017 06:21 PM

The last 7 visitors in the Iowa/Wiscy game have won.
The last 3 seasons, the winner of Iowa/Wiscy game, won the West.

Iowa gets better as the season progresses. Dont count them out yet.

tarcone 09-18-2017 06:30 PM

Just saw a fun fact. Iowa has beten 3 out of the last 4 teams that has come into Kinnick ranked in the top 5. They beat Michigan, Michigan St., Penn St. and lost to Ohio St.

I wouldn't put it past Iowa beating Wisconsin despite all the shit I talk. Whenever Wisconsin has a team that we think can contend for more, they end up losing a game against Northwestern or Iowa or something like that.

But they could lose one of those games and I still think Iowa will lay a few more turds over the course of the season. I'd put them at #2 in the division right now.

tarcone 09-18-2017 07:23 PM

Yeah, OSU is coming to Kinnick. Though I think they are beatable. Wiscy worries me more than OSU at this point.
We also travel to MSU. Never easy. And this PsU game Saturday. Oh boy. This is a tough schedule.

RainMaker 09-18-2017 07:30 PM

Big 10 is really good this year.

Suicane75 09-18-2017 09:59 PM

Michigan and Bama are both gonna have their hands full this week. And that Miss State/Georgia game should be fun as heck.

Or it'll be a one-sided bloodletting.

In either direction seems possible, as well as the option you mentioned.

Might be first time in 18 years the Badgers bball team finished below 4th place. They're a talented group but we are reallllly young this year.

Ksyrup 09-20-2017 12:39 PM

This is an interesting FCS matchup between two top 25 OVC teams - UT-Martin, with former FSU QB Troy Cook vs TN State, with former UF QB Treon Harris.

Grind City Football: Converging paths finally pit transfer QBs Cook, Harris in pivotal OVC clash | Memphis Grizzlies

On a side note, I had no idea the Memphis Grizzlies covered football. Is that normal, or are they among other pro teams trying their hand at expanding their footprint or reaching more people for their sponsors by jumping into college football media?

Easy Mac 09-20-2017 12:44 PM

So you're saying negative points will be scored.

Ksyrup 09-20-2017 12:48 PM

I'm hoping more points will be scored by UTM than TSU.

UTM put up a solid effort 2 weeks ago against Ole Miss.

The Memphis Grizzlies have also been investing heavily in esports recently. They're definitely trying to branch out in to areas other teams haven't considered yet. The Sacremento Kings, surprisingly, are the only other team I know that's making real effort there.

Ksyrup 09-21-2017 06:39 AM

Seems pretty smart, although I don't know if the investment is turning into real money. But hey, I was looking at an OVC football article and now discussing the Memphis Grizzlies, so there's that...

The Philadelphia 76ers bought Dignitas' league of legends team last year. There are lots of other instances popping up with owners/part owners investing in e-sports in the US as well, but not the official organizations as far as I know.

In Europe its happening a bit more frequently to see well known soccer orgs purchasing e-sports teams and branding them the same as their sports organizations. There is an "FC Schalke 04" in European LCS for example.

tarcone 09-21-2017 04:06 PM

Eichorst out as Nebraska AD

That program is turning into a dumpster fire

CrescentMoonie 09-21-2017 04:30 PM

After winning at UNLV, Howard played at MAC team Kent State and lost 38-31 after leading 24-23 going into the 4th quarter. They then returned to FCS action and lost to Richmond 68-21. I have no explanation for that, just found it intriguing that both FBS games were close and dropping back to their own level was a blowout.

Ksyrup 09-21-2017 06:05 PM

Clemson's kicker tore his ACL in practice.

All of Clemson's games that have come down to kicks in the last couple of years have been kicks on the other side of the ball deciding games.

Pitt made one to win.
NC State blew one.

at Florida State last year, Clemson did make a long one that eventually was the margin of victory.

It'll hurt, but Clemson has had a good habit of not allowing the kicking game to be deciding games for them over the past few years.

Unless you count that onside kick in the 2015 national title game as part of the "kicking game".

tarcone 09-22-2017 09:59 AM

Cannot wait for tomorrow night.

Penn State 247, Iowa 1

I'm taking the over.

CrescentMoonie 09-22-2017 10:44 AM

I'm not convinced Iowa is better than Pitt. State Penn wins by 30.

JPhillips 09-22-2017 11:22 AM

Penn State ahead by thirty. 3rd and goal from the three. 20 seconds left in the game.

QB kneels. Franklin calls time out.

4th and goal. Barkley off tackle. Penn State TOUCHDOWN!

After the game Franklin claims he had to use the time out before it expired and was lost to the ether.

Richmond is better than UNLV and Kent State. Gone to the FCS playoffs the last 3 seasons. Kent State is 13-37 since Darrell Hazell left and UNLV has had 1 winning season since 2000. Not like these are some great programs.

tarcone 09-22-2017 03:21 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
You guys are funny.

Iowa 31 PsU 24

Iowa will shock the world. Or I will supremely disappointed. Hoping its the former.

Boise's getting taken behind the woodshed at home by Mr. Jefferson’s Collegiate Hand-Egg Society

jbergey22 09-22-2017 10:56 PM

The Iowa/Penn State game will end up looking similar to this score. And again the Hawks on the losing end........

CrescentMoonie 09-23-2017 05:29 AM

Bronco > Broncos apparently.

tarcone 09-23-2017 07:40 AM

I was watching the highlights from last years Iowa/Michigan game. You know the one where #4 Michigan visited Iowa at night.
The sideline reporter asked Ferentz at half time "Coach, What has enabled the success of your defense against an offense that hasnt struggled with anyone?"

And Akrum Wadley was big time.

I really believe Iowa can win this game. We always have a chip on our shoulders when we play these games at night at home.

Or I could be living in a fantasy world and the walls are about to come crashing down and we end up 8-4 or 7-5 this season.

JonInMiddleGA 09-23-2017 12:23 PM

I'm not sure that Butch Jones isn't the REAL cause of global warming.

Butch Jones vs UMass. It's the unstoppable force vs immovable object of 4th quarter ineptitude.

JonInMiddleGA 09-23-2017 01:58 PM

Christ on a crutch, Jones is apparently TRYING to get fired now.

The offense is stagnant with Dormady but it's utterly inept with Guarantano.
Get the stagnant guy back in there you fucking mouthbreathing clod.

JonInMiddleGA 09-23-2017 02:07 PM

GT looks like they've closed out Pitt in spite of themselves.

Held Pitt under 20 yards offense in the 2nd half*, which okay, it's Pitt ... but still.

edit to add: *up to the time I posted. Backup QB gets Pitt 20 yards in his first two plays in garbage time.

JonInMiddleGA 09-23-2017 02:32 PM

Almost hard to not feel sorry for FSU. One injury basically destroyed their season.

That plus no games for 3 weeks. You can see the rust, the lack of game conditioning, and the youth of the new QB.

CrescentMoonie 09-23-2017 02:50 PM

They're wearing the Pitt throwbacks.

Re: TCU/OK State, once the punting team touches it but doesn't possess it, can't the receiving team elect to take it at the spot of first touching even if they subsequently try to pick it up & fumble it? Am I wrong, and if not why do none of the announcers seem to know this & why can't the refs explain it even after 5 minutes of video review?

bronconick 09-23-2017 03:10 PM

FSU is a tossup to getting to 6-5 this season.

tarcone 09-23-2017 03:15 PM

I think where the punting team touches it is where the ball is down. Nothing after that should matter.

But it might be a CUSA crew. Maybe the one Iowa had last week. They were clueless.

tarcone 09-23-2017 03:29 PM

TCU/Okie St. is a track meet
