My 9 year-old saw me playing it and has pulled up the co-pilot's chair. We've had a pretty good time playing it together, but haven't gotten very far in. Anything folks have come across that might not be age appropriate with the vanilla version of the game?

Thomkal 01-02-2019 11:16 AM

Star Wars: Jedi Knight-Jedi Academy $1 for 24 hours at Fanatical

Worst I've had in my game is the settlements faithful Labrador being "shredded" in an electrical fire. Not graphic, but the thought of a doggo dying from blood loss was a bit unsettling, even if it wasnt a real doggo.

Other than that and the occasional cannibalism/making hats from human leather, it's all been pg13.

Interested to hear what people think the key Rimworld mods are. I usually go hog wild with them and then end up with a random mish-mash that isn't much fun.

I use a couple dozen as well, to the point that I'm not sure which does what anymore. I guess I would categorize the following as my must-haves:

"Avoid Friendly Fire" (obvious)
"Smart Speed" (adds a 4th, faster speed)
"Work Tab" (greatly extends the work tab, w/ 9 priority levels)
"Interaction Bubbles" (displays speech bubbles to pawn interactions)
"RimHUD" (expands pawn/creature info box)
"Psychology" (expanded pawn personalities & interactions)
"Alpha Animals" (a couple dozen new animals & expanded animal behavior)
"Room Sense" (displays worth & attractiveness of rooms)

I go completely vanilla. Started with my latest game right after 1.0 came out and read too many complaints about clashing Mods causing issues with the new version, so playing clean.

Same for me. I've watched streamers play with mods and everything looks OP. I've always preferred the experience the devs give me.

This thread caused me to buy RimWorld, and now I'm addicted and have lost all connection with my loved ones. It took 3 days. Thanks FOFC.

I swapped colony destruction stories with my 9 year-old this morning, so I'm finding that RimWorld is having the opposite effect with my loved ones. :)

sabotai 01-04-2019 01:11 PM

...fucking giants bugs from the caves overrunning my colony...

GrantDawg 01-05-2019 08:55 AM

I just wish the graphics were different in Rimworld. Because of my recent health problems, I have two very small blind spots in my eyes. Over the past few months my mind has adapted to a point that I really don't notice them. But the graphics in Rimworld screw with my eyes, and I really can't make out objects in the game very well to at all. It tried playing, but I just couldn't find small objects well enough to keep going. Over time it might get better, but as for now...

That sounds frustrating.

My family has a multi-year inside joke about a Rimworld game I had where an angry llama killed the entire family. They happened to be watching when I tried to tame a llama, and it went mad.

To this day, all the kids will occasionally drop a "We hate llamas. They get mad and kill your whole family!"

Excuse my ignorance. Can't you go with a lower resolution and therefore larger objects on the screen? HDMI to a larger TV rather than a monitor? I'm probably giving you options you've already tried...

It is more something with the colors blending, which is highlighted by the subtle blur in my vision. Thankfully it is only this and couple other games (at first it was most games).

What Remains of Edith Finch free at the Epic Store until the 25th

Thomkal 01-10-2019 12:51 PM

Question for all: Should we start a "Digital Store-2019" Thread? I can think of five or six such stores off the top of my head, and it might be easier to have one place to go for general sales and news, and use the Steam thread for info on just them?

bob 01-10-2019 01:36 PM

A Story About My Uncle is free at the Humble Bundle store

CrimsonFox 01-10-2019 01:53 PM

That game is great

Thomkal 01-11-2019 11:00 AM

Okay so no one liked my idea of a Digital Store Thread :)

Injustice2-Legendary Edition, 70% off at Fanatical for about 40 hours. That makes it about 18 bucks.

CrimsonFox 01-11-2019 03:17 PM

What

I can't say that I see any real point in separating the Steam thread from the other digital storefronts. I think at this point we mostly read the title of the thread as "Steam et al" at least subconsciously.

CrimsonFox 01-11-2019 04:29 PM

yeah it's all gamesgamesgames...

i don't really use the 201X video game thread much but this one instead.

PilotMan 01-12-2019 06:42 PM

I just played like 8 hours of Rimworld. Snow day here today. That game. Good grief.

I *really* wish that game had a real multiplayer option. (There's a mod for pseudo multiplayer, but it's just not the same.)

Middle son and I were pining for that today too. At least just play in the same game in the same world, in a LAN game, would be enough for me, but seriously, that is one game that would be amazing as a MP.

CrimsonFox 01-13-2019 02:34 AM

so.... Kingdom Hearts 3

Shkspr 01-13-2019 03:10 AM

...is an argument for renaming this thread the 201X video games thread? :)

Lathum 01-13-2019 06:29 AM

I am still having a blast playing Slay the Spire, and I haven't even gotten to the mods yet. Mostly because I have no clue how any of that stuff works.

I go back to it a few times a month for a few hours, its a great way to kill an hour or two (or less if you just want to pull it up for one run).

Love the game, but I am absolutely hating Act 4.

As of patch 53 or 54, you can opt to collect three keys, and fight the heart after the end of Act 3. There is a vendor, a nasty elite fight, then you fight the heart.

Slay the spire is the weekend game that my 18 year old daughter and I play together. We don’t ever seem to get bored with it playing it once a week or so.

Hi Alan!

CrimsonFox 01-14-2019 07:19 AM

I've noticed a ton of "Remastered" games of late...and each time I see them getting hammered in the user reviews because the remasters seldom add anything new except a few textures that don't really look that different. That's the complaints I see anyway.

And online pvp that lacks fairness yadayada

cashgrab is the word i see most freq used.

MizzouRah 01-14-2019 08:03 AM

Anyone play Battlefleet Gothic Armada? The 2nd one comes out in like 10 days and it looks pretty cool. The Warhammer 40k games for the most part have been fun to play and one in space seems even better.

PilotMan 01-15-2019 01:41 PM

Remember back in the day when the prices of PC games would start to drop a few months after they come out?

Now we're stuck with these game prices years later, thanks to console games. No way should Fallout 4 regular price be 30, or XCOM 2, still be at $60. These aren't new games anymore. Fuck consoles and their horrible pricing schemes. I'll be in my corner, pouting.

NobodyHere 01-15-2019 03:13 PM

But with PC games there is always a sale around the corner. Xcom 2 is $15 at the humble bundle store right now.

Thomkal 01-23-2019 09:30 AM

Distraint, a 2D graphics psychological horror game I've never heard of is free at GOG.com for a short time. Having a sale on a bunch of games, nothing jumps out at me too much except Divinity: Original Sin I is 75% off for $10.00. Darkest Dungeon is 70% off or about 8 bucks. It's DLC's appear to be on sale too.

Thomkal 01-23-2019 10:11 AM

Slay the Spire out of Early Access on Steam now, but not on sale.
