That makes more sense.

Sorry it is 2020. Keep forgetting that part.

If you don't know who Aristides Aquino is you better get up to speed.

He's been in the majors for 10 games for the Reds, he's hit 7 homers (27 at bats), 3 of them tonight. It's the 4th inning.

tarcone 08-10-2019 07:47 PM

Damn, I want melancon and am limited with how much money I have left.

I had him but decided not to get him to get the closer

Probably a good call after tonight

I hate his stance, but it sure has hell has worked in AAA and his short time in the majors. When he barrells, it goes a long way, very fast.

MLB summed up here, exit velocity and launch angle.

Acuna, Jr leads off for Atlanta vs Miami.

Three guesses what the first pitch outcome of the AB was.

Half serious question: Are any of the Marlin pitchers who were there for last year's beanball BS still on this year's team?

Just wondering if only Donnie Baseball has a personal vendetta against the kid.

Yeah, cause assclown Urena is still there. Tonight's SP Hernandez was there last year too.

PilotMan 08-20-2019 08:39 PM

I believe that I truly love that man. He had his moments at times, but he wears it all out there for everyone, all the time.

molson 08-22-2019 10:11 PM

Red Sox and Royals knock out 12 minutes of baseball this afternoon at Fenway to complete a suspended game. Tickets were $5, kids got in free, hot dogs were $1. The Royals had to fly in on their off day.

Sounds like it was a fun time for the fans, but they weren't quite sure what to do when the game was over.

SirFozzie 08-24-2019 12:15 AM

Not a good time for the Orioles. Not only are they horrible now, and likely horrible for the future, it was confirmed today that they owe the Nationals $296 million.

Oh, plus interest.

Judge rules in favor of Nationals in rights fee dispute with Orioles, orders MASN to pay out $296.8 million

Atocep 09-02-2019 12:14 AM

I just saw Bubba Starling finally reached the majors this year. That's a long path to the majors. Kind of surprised he didn't go back to football at some point.

stevew 09-02-2019 04:37 AM

Ah yeah. I remember checking him out a year or so ago wondering the same thing. Donovan Tate was a guy who bombed and went to football I guess.

BishopMVP 09-03-2019 11:51 PM

Final AAA home run totals (AAA switched to MLB baseballs in 2019.)

2018 - 3,652
2019 - 5,749

The only question is whether it's intentional, not that it's happening. It's clearly happening. It clearly started immediately after Manfred was hired and Rawlings was purchased by MLB.

And AA/A (which don't use MLB baseballs) hit under 94% of home runs as last year.

I'm thinking it might possibly be the ball.

PilotMan 09-04-2019 09:24 AM

It's definitely the ball. I thought I read that tests showed that it had less drag than previous versions, thus flyballs were carrying farther.

I'm still not certain if this change is good or bad though. It clearly means that every player up and down the lineup has to be able to put the ball out though. No more Ozzie Smiths on the teams. But it's also brought HR derby into each game, and people do love dingers. Just not Barry Bloated Head Bonds dingers.

Vince, Pt. II 09-04-2019 10:12 PM

The Giants have 20 left on base through 7 innings. That seems...absurd.

Edit: it appears this was a statistical glitch, and they actually have 11. Which is much more reasonable.

1.6 per inning still a lot! Feels like the Red Sox season, at least if there's also a 1-run loss involved eventually.

BishopMVP 09-09-2019 11:27 AM

Red Sox fire Dombrowski (and try to hide it behind a big Patriots win). I've never loved his style, but he was brought in to do exactly what he did and he did it. Not sure why there was any urgency to do it now instead of giving a respected guy the chance to resign after the season, especially if Eddie Romero ends up in the top spot like he should (or I guess if we talk Billy Beane in to coming East after the A's season.)

If I had to guess this makes it less likely we re-sign Mookie Betts and more likely we trade him this winter.

You could always just hire Betts's agent as general manager and extend him. Then trade away your top 2 prospects for something like Hosmer and Yates.

I understand you're referencing something else by analogy here, but I'm too daft to figure it out. Lakers kinda did that. Is this them?

It was a reference to the Mets hiring DeGrom's agent as GM and then trading their top 2 prospects to Seattle for their closer (Diaz) and worst contact (Cano).

Oh yeah! That's funny shit. What's even funnier is the guy's name is Van Weinerschnitzel or something like that.

Okay, prob not so funny to Mets' fans.

I get the Mets reference, but I don't think Dombrowski had something special that would help sign Betts. I just don't think the owners want to commit the long term $$$ necessary & Dombrowski would've 100% opposed any attempt to trade him early or go for a rebuild/retooling.

I guess JBJ is also a potential UFA after next year, JD Martinez could opt out & Porcello will need to be replaced & the bullpen upgraded this winter, but the Betts question and whether we're willing to jump into the luxury tax for the next few seasons given our other big contracts is the one huge question. I'd much prefer we just sign him, but if ownership doesn't want to commit the $$$ then yeah I guess we should trade him this winter for a ton of value instead of pulling what the Hornets did with Kemba & watching him walk for nothing when we know we're not willing to pay what he both wants and will get on the open market.

Shitty news for Brewers fans. :(

Vince, Pt. II 09-11-2019 10:25 AM

Sucks about Yelich.

I'm hoping like hell that Khris Davis gets hot. He's going to need to finish the year something like 27-62 to get to a .247 average. He's a really hot/cold hitter, so it's not outside the realm of possibility.

This Felipe Vasquez thing is equal parts disgusting and bizarre... obviously he's gone from the game for life and probably spending some decent time in protective custody in jail.

jbergey22 09-25-2019 10:34 PM

Coming into this season who would have bet the Twins have a great shot at 100 wins? Certainly helped having 3 of the worst teams in baseball in their division but none the less quite the accomplishment from a team that won 78 games last year and what was probably more in line with what was expected this year.

Butter 09-26-2019 03:16 PM

Watching and listening to Marty Brennaman's final game hit me pretty hard today.

He's been doing it longer than I've been alive. The only radio voice I ever knew, and I loved listening to him, even in all his cantankerous glory the last several years.

I sometimes had to sleep with my kids when they were very young to calm them to sleep, and I would put on Marty and Joe to listen to every night.

Really feel like losing a major part of my life and childhood with his retirement.

All the years I lived in Cincinnati really enjoyed listening to him and the cowboy.

JonInMiddleGA 09-26-2019 03:51 PM

Thanks to The Big One, 700 WLW, I listened to Marty (and Joe) in MY youth as well. And I'm now 52 f'n years old.

A helluva career.

JPhillips 09-26-2019 04:27 PM

Not the same without Nuxie, but I spent a lot of time in my youth listening to games with my dad. Enjoy your retirement, Marty.

Got curious on the longest tenured announcers, being a Bob Uecker fan myself.

I wasn't aware that the Dodgers had a Spanish language guy in Jaime Jarrin that's been going since 1959.

Denny Matthews from the Royals gets Uecker by two years (1969 versus 1971).

Uecker doesn't do many road trips anymore but he was in Cincinnati last night so he could party with the boys as they clinched a playoff berth.

On another note, the Brewers are now 13-2 without Christian Yelich. Every part of me wanted to throw in the towel when he went down but knowing that baseball is baseball.....

tarcone 09-26-2019 05:48 PM

The Cubs are done, but may be pissed the Cards knocked them out of the race.

The cubs don't care. Look at their lineup

Maddon even said (espn has a whole piece about it) that he doesn't care if the Brewers are pissed about the lineups they use this weekend.

Frankly, I'm a little surprised that he hasn't contracted a "flu bug" and is even going to be there.
