Not really.

Most of Asmodee's Digital board games on sale this weekend on Steam. Unfortunately its only 10% off Gloomhaven. Speaking of Gloomhaven-they have added a new character to the roster, the Tinkerer, and now have a tutorial for those unfamiliar with the game.

RendeR 09-26-2019 04:04 PM

I love it when the board games are available cheap. I can play test them and see if I want to get them for the family.

That and many board games are way too expensive. Getting a more or less full version for a lot cheaper is so worth it for me.

RendeR 09-26-2019 11:24 PM

They definitely can be!

Critch 09-28-2019 03:55 PM

Steam down, cant even play in offline mode. I may have to talk to somebody instead of playing my games. Nightmare city.

Edit - And now it's back. Panic averted.

My heart skipped a beat reading the first two words.

Thomkal 10-01-2019 09:04 PM

Just in case you didn't know, Destiny 2 has moved over to Steam as a free to play game today. New introductory quest and starting location not sure what else has changed.

The usual 1st day jitters-queue's and some people not being able to log in.

Thomkal 10-03-2019 12:28 PM

Minit is the free game at Epic this week.

I know the feeling when this happened to me last week. Have't seen steam have this problem in quite some time.

Critch 10-04-2019 02:00 PM

It was apparently a world-wide outage for approximately 50 minutes. Really brought home that, although you've paid for your Steam games, you dont really own them.

I'm having to rethink my plan for all-day-every-day steam gaming after the impending collapse of civilization.

I always keep 3 or 4 old consoles on standby

I'll be curious what you thought of it. Trailers reminded me a lot of Terraria.

thesloppy 10-10-2019 09:35 PM

I haven't touched it yet. I also want to try Noita which kinda gives me the same vibe.

I dabbled with Noita a bit last night... neat game so far.

Anyone ever play Franchise Hockey Manager 6? I have EHM but I find it a bit cumbersome.

The $35 price tag is a bit steep for something I may not like, any thoughts would be appreciated.

bhlloy 10-11-2019 03:33 PM

I’m looking forward to checking out FHM6 eventually as I’m in an online league that will be upgrading soon, but FHM5 as a single player game is... really not very good sadly. It’s certainly nowhere near where EHM was when SI pulled the plug.

Can you elaborate why it isn't good?

I like the idea of starting a historical season, but I loath sims where I have to micro manage every aspect of gameplan, etc...

bhlloy 10-11-2019 04:45 PM

Under the hood the sim engine is very suspect (look at the advanced stats and you’ll see it’s not really representative of what hockey really is). Drafting and development isn’t really realistic and fun. It’s still pretty buggy and has rough edges even for how long the game has been out. I don’t know if micromanagement is really a negative for it, it just doesn’t scratch the itch as a realistic representation of the NHL for me.

Not sure if any of this applies to FHM6, fwiw. But while the list of improvements was long, I didn’t really see too much to convince me the bones of the game have been significantly changed. Interested in hearing or reading opinions though.

Never heard of this until you mentioned it. Does look like something up my alley though.

Let me know if you get it and some thoughts. I'll probably pick it up later this week when I have some free time to play it.

Rebel Inc also comes out tomorrow too.

It's being compared very favorably to Planescape: Torment and PCGamer has already mentioning it as a potential game of the year.

I'm in a class Tuesday and Wednesday, but I'll find some time to play. From everything I've read it sounds like the closest thing to Torment since it was released 20 years ago.

Never played Torment.

I did watch an LP today on youtube and no doubt I'll grab it maybe this Sunday.

Those looking to get this game-GoG has it for $40 and if you order before the 22nd, you get a copy of UnderRail for free

Thomkal 10-15-2019 01:26 PM

You might want to check out Fanatical tomorrow and the next couple days-having flash deals on certain games at their lowest price ever:

It's a strange and interesting game.

There's definitely a placescape torment vibe to it, but it's a detective game so there's isn't in real combat. The writing is incredible and it really encourages you to play outside of your comfort zone.

I mean so far I've: hit on an elderly lady in a wheel chair because I needed money, punched a 12 year old in the face to get him to stop yelling rape, shot a dead body I'm investigating down from a tree he was hanging from, and nearly got into a fight with a guy I was questioning because he was being racist toward my partner. The game generally doesn't punish you for doing the things other games punish you for.

I'm about 3 hours into it and it's a 60-90 hour game so I'm just scratching the surface, but I'd say 9/10 for torment fans.

For everyone else:

If you enjoy a strong story, don't mind reading a lot of text, are willing to do the off the wall shit other games don't want you to do, and the lack of combat isn't a dealbreaker then it's something to look into.

Thanks for the recap, strongly considering this one.....little concerned on the wall of text reading but this game has been universally getting great reviews....might be hard to pass up.

So is Disco Elysium set in some alternate universe? The sceenshots make it seem Steampunk or Post Apocalyptic or something. If it had a normal modern setting ala Police Quest at the time or even something historic like LA Noire, I'd be all over it. As it is, I'm hesitant.

It's an more of noir setting in an alternate universe.

Thanks for this... I've also read some wild impressions.

I want to play tonight but only have an hour so I want to wait for a free day to really dig into it without a time restraint.

PilotMan 10-18-2019 11:06 PM

911 Operator is a fun, dropin/dropout kind of game where you're basically allocating resources, and dispatching services throughout the city. You can download maps for real cities. I've been in Bismarck of all places for the last little while. Maps affect the paths for vehicles and speed which they respond. Buy equipment/upgrade guys. It's not super deep, but it's easy to pick up and put down, which is the kind of game I need these days.

Yep standard operating procedure for all Paradox games. As much as I like history (history ed major in college), I still can't get into Crusader Kings that much. Give me Stellaris though... :)

The good news is that almost every week Paradox has a big sale on their games somewhere, so it should be easier to get III cheaper. I would watch Humble Bundle-I think they had a Crusader Kings DLC bundle recently, and wouldn't surprise if they had another before III is available. Hope they have one for Stellaris too.

I'm with you. I think why I like Stellaris more is because I played it from the beginning and saw it evolve. With Crusader Kings II, I dabbled in it 2-3 years ago and was overwhelmed by the complexity.
