It was kingdom management that I did not enjoy at all. If they took thst out, I would be interested.

There's mods that automate / simplify a lot of kingdom management stuff. Dunno how well they work, but there's several.

Torchlight III has emerged from Beta and entered Early Access for $30. I played in the beta when it was still a MMO. Not sure I would recommend paying full price for it right now.

That's too bad. I was really looking forward to it until the change of direction. Now I read most comments that state it's basically a mobile version of the game.

thesloppy 06-14-2020 02:01 PM

That's a shame, I really enjoyed the two previous games.

MizzouRah 06-15-2020 05:49 PM

Torchlight II was awesome, I fired it back up today.

I also purchased Griftlands (heck it's a steal at $12 via EA) from Klei Entertainment. They have made some fun games, and this one is a deck building game but much different than what you would expect.

Brian Swartz 06-15-2020 06:13 PM

Since I don't think it's been mentioned here, Steam Summer Games Festival begins tomorrow. Lots of indie demos and things of that nature will be available to try.

Picked up Iratus over the weekend, man what a fun game it is. I liked Darkest Dungeon but never had the one ore battle feeling I have with Iratus right now.

It's interesting how a seemingly small tweak can make all the difference in two game-alikes. Similarly, I never took to Slay the Spire but can't stop playing Monster Train.

I snagged it on Epic during the sale with the $10 coupon they gave everybody, but I won't really be able to jump in until I upgrade my computer. It'll only run on the bare minimum graphics settings for me and I'm having trouble with that.

..between that and the itch bundle, you can get a quick influx of 2000+ games.....just what we all need.

Steam's Summer Games Festival has started-it has a ton of demos and livestream's of upcoming games this summer.

Yeah won't have to ever get a new game with all those to play...yeah right :)

Sentinels of the Multiverse app now free on Android and Apple

That humble Bundle is an absolutely perfect example of a bundle that I would buy, because there's a handful of games that are on the very tail-end of my endless list of games-I-want-to-play (and of course a few I already own), but I know I would never touch a single one of them.

Desperados III is out today and getting good reviews but for $50 I'll wait for a sale.

I've really been looking forward to it. I picked it up on GMG for $40 last week. I've played the tutorial and the first mission and it's basically old west Shadow Tactics, which makes sense considering it's the same dev.

It is a mostly stealth based game with a lot of trial and error. You're going to quick save and quick load quite a bit and they warn you about that early on.

The game play is every bit as good as Shadow Tactics so if that's your thing it's great. If you didn't like Shadow Tactics or it doesn't seem like something that interests you then this probably isn't a game to get.

Atocep 06-16-2020 08:04 PM

The Waylanders hit Early Access and is considered a spiritual successor to Dragon Age: Origins. Early word on it is it's very much early access and meant to be a playable alpha build. It's missing art assets, animations, content, and along with the other problems you'd expect from alpha.

I'm not sure releasing a true alpha build into early access is the best call. I'm sure it's going to take a beating in the steam reviews, but it sounds like it does have a lot of potential.

Thomkal 06-16-2020 08:09 PM

That seems a recipe for disaster Atocep

Thanks... I played Shadow Tactics for a bit but it got boring to me. Definitely holding off but I figured it was a ST set in the West. ;)

I echo the comments, very much like Shadow Tactics.....haven't got far yet, but I do like what I see so far, Westerns interest me more so I expect to get my money's worth. Although I haven't purposely looked for reviews, I have stumbled across a handful and every one I saw so far had very positive things to say so that is encouraging as well, although I typically don't care what reviewers say anyways:)

If you weren't aware, free demo on the steam page, could give it a try and see if something worth your money at this point. Although certainly nothing wrong with waiting for a future sale, which I am sure will come at some point.

I found Satisfactory about a week ago.

I haven't played a game I like this much in a very long time.

I have no idea how I'd missed the existence of Shadow Tactics up to this point, but thank you for this! I played the demo of Depserados III last night and had a blast! Also gave the Shadow Tactics demo a try (haven't completed it yet) and it's also a tonne of fun.

Between the two, Desperados III does seem better. I like being able to pause, and the layouts of the maps (at least between the two demos) were a little more clear on what my options were.

I'm definitely going to pick up one of these soon. Word on the street is that the Steam Summer Sale starts a week from now, so I'll likely hold off and see if Shadow Tactics gets a good discount (presumably Desperados won't so soon after release). All things being close to equal, though, I'll go with Desperados.

I thought it sounded vaguely familiar to me so I googled. I'm pretty sure I saw somebody doing a LetsPlay at some point.

"First-person Factorio" basically, minus the procedural generation.

Was this going to be an automatic update, or DLC. Not seeing anything on steam about it.

As far as I can tell its going to be an automatic update to coincide with when the console edition becomes available.

Thomkal 06-18-2020 12:39 PM

Can't access the Epic free game thread right this second so just to let you know Pathway is the free game there this week. It's an occult/turn-based strategy tactics game set (at least the first mission) in the 1930's. It's a setting not often used for games like this, and I was intrigued by it when I saw Nookrium play it a while back on YouTube. Certainly worth a look even if it wasn't free,

Thanks, can't wait to check it out. Great game and the only part I didn't like was no true turn based option.

Coffee Warlord 06-18-2020 02:07 PM

Anyone tried Sentinels of Freedom? Turn based (X-Com style) game based of Sentinels of the Multiverse. Friend of mine has it, says so far so good. Some reviews are scaring me off a bit, though.

bhlloy 06-18-2020 02:22 PM

I didn’t enjoy it - was a very quick uninstall for me. Felt very shallow and limited - very grindy and felt like the customization was really mostly for show. Maybe it’s improved or gets better the deeper you go, but even in lockdown boredom I haven’t had the urge to retry it yet.

rjolley 06-18-2020 03:07 PM

Picked up Elite: Dangerous a week ago after watching a friend of mine play it on Twitch. Just couldn't get the hang of combat in the training, so I returned it and figured I'd pick it up again if it came in a bundle.

A couple of days ago, what shows up in the racial equality bundle on Humble Bundle? I grabbed the bundle and reinstalled. I played it for a few hours and I'm glad I got it again. Having a ball and looking forward to playing more. Probably won't survive combat, but the exploration and flying should be more than enough for me to enjoy.

I picked it up a couple weeks ago (and ironically, already owning Elite was one of the things that made me NOT pick up that Humble bundle) but I'm still waiting for it to grow on me. I think it may be just a bit too slow to be the distraction that I'm currently looking for.

You get what you put into it. I enjoy the exploration, travel and trade aspect.

MizzouRah 06-18-2020 05:23 PM

I picked up Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children today after watching some LP's and reading some reviews.

It's like an X-Com Anime game. Anyone play it?

I have it and did enjoy it, but stopped about 10 hours in because it was still early access at that point (maybe a year ago?). I keep meaning to give it another go but haven't yet.

thesloppy 06-18-2020 05:31 PM

On the topic of x-com-alikes: I did play that new Gears of War Tactics that had been really well received and it just bounced right off me. Maybe it's one of those games where you have to play for 20-hours to get the complete picture, but reviews seemed to mention depth & unit customization as strengths & I had the exact opposite response.

Yeah, I really think I might enjoy it more in other circumstances but I feel like I need something that keeps my brain constantly engaged/distracted at the moment, and Elite is stuffed with chunks of minutes of relative inactivity when you're traveling around. I felt like I practically needed ANOTHER game to distract me from those moments while playing.

When I get to the point where flying to areas is second nature, I'll probably be in the same boat. Right now, a mundane flight takes a lot of effort so I don't have a chance to get bored.
