Yeah, compared to Monster Train or Slay the Spire that seemed to have pretty intuitive mechanics, there was like 6 different concepts dumped on you right out of the gate that are not easy to understand and there does not seem to be much in the way of tutorial.

I wonder how they set up their Discovery Queue logic 'cause they're misdiagnosing me, big time. I don't do multiplayer but it's chock full of those. I'm not much on horror but those are sprinkled throughout. It's gotta be much more "push these games on people" than "pull from what the customer likes".

I just completed Chimera Squad. A great use of $9.99. It took me a bit to get used to the game play tweaks, but I really enjoyed it. I was quite stoppable by the end!

Thomkal 06-30-2020 02:50 PM

Good deal at Fanatical for Pillars of Eternity-Definitive Edition. Contains the base game, content from the Champion and Royal Edition plus The White Marsh part 1 and 2, Campaign Almanac DLC, plus a lot of other goodies for $7.

Good for 24 hours only.

BYU 14 06-30-2020 02:58 PM

I am playing Gears Tactics now. It is really good and f it only had the customization of X-Com 2 would be as near perfect as it gets for my type of game.

Thomkal 06-30-2020 04:50 PM

Amazon Games are not off to a great start. Their free to play Shooter Crucible has been taken back to a closed beta after hardly anyone was playing it when it left beta. Hopefully their MMO New World will do a little better. You can still get the game before it goes back into closed beta on Jul 1 at noon EST

The fact I didn't even know Amazon Games was a thing is probably not a good sign for them.

heh nope not at all. I think New World has some promise from the early beta I was in, but they need to do a better job of squashing bugs/lag/optimization.

What he said.

Even if I'm not interested, I'm fairly far up the gaming news curve I think so for me to have no conscious awareness ... I can't think that's a great sign for them unless their market is entirely like kids 10 and under or woke-gamers-only or something.

Hue. a puzzle/adventure game where you change the world by changing the background color of the world is the free game at Epic this week. Apparently Conan Exiles was also going to be free at some point, but they have changed their mind and will offer it for sale in their store at some point

Thomkal 07-03-2020 03:07 PM

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is one of the games available on this month's Humble Choice. Of course I had just cancelled it a few days ago, because there wasn't many games I was interested in (grrr!), There's a Battlestar Galactica, Earthlock, and Railway Empire amongst the other games available for you to choose from.

Finally fired this up a couple of weeks ago. It’s great! Having a blast.

That's great to hear! They released a nice bug fix patch a few days ago and the 2nd DLC is coming out soon.

I wonder if this has anything to do with executives leaving because of sexual harassment complaints.

Ksyrup 07-13-2020 07:36 AM

Picked up Unheard among a bunch of games a couple of weeks ago during the big sale and am really enjoying it. It's a detective game where you only listen to conversations to identify the people involved and answer certain questions about each scenario. You're given a schematic of each setting (office, police station, art gallery, etc.) and you are able to follow each person, listen to each conversation, phone call, etc., during a specific sequence (so far, between 5-10 minutes). You can rewind/fast-forward through the scene as many times as you want to position yourself in certain room or follow certain people to hear conversations.

Pretty cool take on the classic point-and-click detective game.

Well I don't know about that, but I know several YouTubers/Twitter folk were upset because they said absolutely nothing about sexual harassment during the whole event, and are worried they might not ever say anything about it again.

Yeah that does sound like a different take. Be curious how you feel about the game when you finish it.

Othercide comes out in about 12 days. It's kind of an X-Com roguelike. I love the art style and music.

Not sure how good a deal this is as I don't play Assassin's Creed, but Fanatic has a Pick Your Own AC bundle. Looks like 10 different games where you can pick which three you want for $10 or 5 for $15

I just grabbed AC Odyssey for $15 on Xbox Marketplace. Not a bad deal.

Yes, thanks. I had it at one time but I can't find it. I'm in this stage where I'm going back over old games and trying a fresh run through because I typically never finish them. :D

Abe Sargent 07-23-2020 12:08 PM

After 6 hours, I really, really, really like Golftopia and it's very developed for an Early Release. It's a solo game by the same folks that made space Pirates and Zombies which I loved. Consider this an official recommendation!

Well not the Stellaris DLC Bundle I've been waiting for from Humble Bundle, but you can get the base Stellaris game and several others right now in the Paradox Bundle. You can get Europa Universalis IV and Age of Wonders 3 for a $1, Stellaris mnd the Victoria Collection for $7.50, Battletech and Tyranny for $12, and Imperator Rome for $17:

I think I already own all of those, but just seeing that many quality games for that price gets me oddly excited all over again.

I'm intrigued by Grand Tactician: The Civil War. It's soon to make the jump to Early Access, so it probably has a long way to go and I would expect problems with AI and balance, but the battle system looks great.

Thanks, this looks great. I only ever play turn based games but I like the concept of giving Corp level commands and watching it play out. Add in my current Civil War obsession and this looks like a day 1 buy for me.

I am looking forward to this as Civil War is also my favorite war game type. Certainly a first day purchase, but I am cautious as well....looks a little too good to be true:)

I know you prefer turn based games, but if you do like controlling higher level commands and watch things, Scourge of War series is one of my favorite. This is the bundle but you can buy individual battles that are cheaper.

Anyone play Plebby Quest yet? I think the best way to describe it is Crusader Kings light. Picked it up and played through the tutorial, and I think it has some potential for a "not-quite-as grand" strategy game.

Brian Swartz 08-10-2020 11:06 AM

I'm curious to see how it works out. I really liked the idea of Ultimate General and then some aspects of it ended up being badly implemented in the campaign. I've seen lots of promising games, and aside from Ageod's entry which requires a ton of knowledge and experimentation with settings to get the balance right, and still has issues then, they all seem to fall flat when they go beyond the individual scenario/battle level.

Thomkal 08-11-2020 12:28 PM

The battles in UGCW are great, but the campaign is nonsense with the scaling and the lack of impact of devastating losses.
