dola, anyway, yeah it worked fine with my very basic integrated crappy video card before so I'd assume the minimum requirement is not that high...

$5 for M&B is great...I want to see how it looks with the new graphics card. Last time I played it, the game was still free...this wasyears ago - can someone just make a random rough-estimate at the % improvement since then?

interesting, I read tons of reviews and made tons of comparisons when I decided on the GT 240 but never saw anything about a GT 230. Tom's hardware's hierarchy chart of video cards was a big help but even there, the GT 230 isn't listed. I knew about the lesser GT 220 and 210 or the higher GTX line, but nothing about the GT 230. Probably because newegg.ca didn't have any listed so it never entered my radar screen.

Just read somewhere that it's a sort of rebrand of a 9600 GT which would put it right on par with my GT 240 (w/ GDDR5) as per the hierarchy chart and because of that comparison, I gotta agree, it's beautiful. :)

Snobbish gamers will tell ya it's not a gaming card, that you should go with something better, and maybe they are right, but for me, it's simply, purely awesome. Especially for the 85$ I paid. :)

For now, it plays King's Bounty smoothly and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Chernobyl, for the little I tried it with, looks very good. The other game that was choppy before and that I really want to try now is Titan Quest but so many games, so little time, and the Olympics that open tonight, arrrg. :)

FM

DaddyTorgo 02-12-2010 11:38 AM

i've been playing CoD: Modern Warfare with it, and it's beautiful. It may be a "pure gaming card" but it's a huge improvement for me, so I'm happy with it.

Tasan 02-12-2010 12:10 PM

Wow...loving Mount and Blade. Runs great on my laptop with a ATI 4200 in it.

MizzouRah 02-12-2010 12:22 PM

Suckers like me can pre-order MLB 2k10 at Amazon and get a free fat head jr. ($40 value) and $10 off your next game purchase.

Company of Heros
Red Faction I and II
STALKER
Sup Com
TItan Quest
Warhammer

Are the main games.

it's funny but when you posted about this I remembered about seeing a similar pack on Steam. Sure enough, they have one also going for $100 but they call it the THQ Complete Pack. Wasn't too sure if the same games were in there or not but seeing how it was the same price, I didn't see fit to comment about it or anything. Just got the news item on my RSS feed that Steam has put that same Complete at 50% until February 19, i.e. available for only $49.99.

Games in the pack are the following:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
Full Spectrum Warrior
Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
Titan Quest
Titan Quest - Immortal Throne
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Gold Edition
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Dark Crusade
Warhammer® 40,000: Dawn of War® - Soulstorm
Warhammer® 40,000™: Dawn of War® II
Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights
Frontlines™: Fuel of War™
Saints Row 2
Red Faction
Red Faction II
Red Faction Guerrilla

All in all 18 games valued at $354.82 (Steam regular price).

Not really all my types of games, but maybe for some of you...

FM

FrogMan 02-12-2010 04:07 PM

same 50% off type deal is going on for other THQ packs, namely their Animal Fun Pack, their Simulation Gaming Pack and their Family Gaming Pack that are all available for 14.99 instead of 29.99. Titles in these packs are less known and probably not as worthy of mentioning as the ones in the Complete pack.

FM

Mota 02-12-2010 08:34 PM

I locked into a big 2K Games pack in the summer and it was amazing. The THQ one is equally good, although I've picked at about 70% of those titles over the past 6 months in various deals.

I love Steam.

MizzouRah 02-13-2010 12:11 PM

I thinking about picking up Medieval II from D2D, how is it?

Actually, Steam has it for $6.79, nice!

Keep in mind that DT is using a 230M, the 'M' standing for mobile. Mobile cards are less powerful than their desktop counterparts.

Here's a good chart for mobile cards -- http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...M.17646.0.html

Steam has a game called Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds: Survivor on sale as a package for 5 bucks. Anyone play this yet? It looks like it could be interesting, but it also looks like it could be a total flop. Reviews anyone?

Oh and I'm still loving Mount and Blade. That game is fantastic.

yeh, saw that deal last night and searched for it on FOFC which only netted one post in this very thread and that was only a mention of it being on sale. No clue if the game's any good...

Wikipedia entry had some negative comments regarding the storyline being sort of a throwaway... Shadowgrounds - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

$20 off your next purchase if you pre order Battlefield 2 Bad Company from Amazon..

Can't wait for this one!

Not a huge bargain, but NewEgg has BioShock 2 for Xbox and PS3 for $49.99 and free shipping.

FrogMan 02-25-2010 05:11 PM

Weekend deal on Steam is 75% off the Spellforce Franchise. This means Spellforce - Platinum Edition (which apparently includes the original Spellforce with its expansion) for $3.74 or Spellforce 2: Gold Edition (which again includes the game with an expansion) for $7.50.

Anybody's got an opinion on either version of the game?

Other deals currently running on Steam until March 2nd:
Hammerfight for $4.99 (50% off)
Serious Sam HD for $7.49 (50% off)

Two more being drawn to the darkside:devil:

Seriously it's a great version for a newb. I wish the tactics wizard and backroom advice features were there when I first bought the game. While there is still a lot to learn these will make it much easier. And $19.95 to boot, you couldn't ask for a better deal.

I've never really been into FM either but at $20, I'm wondering. What is the Steam site all about? Is it safe, etc.?

I use Steam for nearly all my PC games. Some folks around here are not fans and can speak up for the cons, but personally they have the least intrusive copy protection, easy access to your games through machine installs, can play on any machine via your account, and run extreme sales on a regular basis.

I really have way too many games to play right now and I'm in a big RPG type gaming mode with King's Bounty and Titan Quest both taking much of what little free time I have but I gotta say that $20 is a pretty sweet deal for FM2010.

That being said, I had a hard time getting into WWSM2009 and right now, I wouldn't feel like putting the time commitment to really get immersed into another career so I will probably pass even at the very nice price.

FM

Tasan 03-01-2010 09:08 PM

The portability is the #1 thing for me with steam. Now that I have a laptop that can run a few things, I really like being able to move from my desktop to my laptop without forgetting a disc or code or something.

Well, #1-a is probably the sales as well. You can't beat these classics at 5 bucks, and other newer games at great prices.
