Little Miss Sunshine- 9.5/10- Unbelievable humor. Great charectures and amazing acting. Olives pagent was beyond funny. the only knock would be it was predictable at parts but even when you knew something was coming it was still great. Arkin definantly deserved his oscar and if it wasn't for the departed I would say this was very deserving of the oscar.

Borat - 7/10: Funny, but some of it really felt staged. Some laugh out loud moments for sure.
Open Water 2 - 8/10: At my house, I'm like the only one who loved Open Water 1, but this one was just as good, imo. |

Cube - 6.5/10: Sci-Fi flick from the 90s with strangers trapped in a cube with many rooms...some of which contain deadly traps. The acting is not very good, but it is interesting to see the characters transform under pressure. I am also a sucker for movies with math in them.

The Departed - 7/10 A good movie, but Oscar worthy? I think not. Even mediocre by Scorsese standards. Watch a couple episodes of The Wire instead if you want to see some authentic crime drama.

Just saw The 300. SPOILERS AHEAD Way over the top with violence and gore (it's Braveheart X 5). The film played fast and loose with the actual history of the event (in addition to the 300 Spartans, 700 additional Greeks made the last stand with King Leonidas); the Persian immortals looked more like Ninja-movie rejects; and wtf with some LOTR monster-types?! In addition, Xerxes was a S&M homosexual's wet dream -- he looked nothing like images that have survived from history. Also, a bit of a right-wing slant (Leonidas is fighting what Greek politicians call an illegal war and they are hesitant to send him reinforcements). However, for the most part, a very engrossing story...and I'll give them this...those Spartans were bad a$$ mofos. |

The movie was much better than I was expecting. It wasn't as laugh out loud funny as Office Space, but it was a solid effort. Borat - 9/10 Upon a second viewing, I picked up on a few things I missed watching the movie the first time around, like some of the dialog that I didn't hear because of the loud laughter in the theater. |
Shaun of the Dead - 8/10
Finally caught this on Saturday night at home. Quite good, with just the right mix of humour and gore. Looking forward to the next one from these guys. |
Oldboy - 8/10
I really enjoyed/was blown away by this film. If you like films that really make you think, don't miss Oldboy. This is truly one messed up, shocking film. |

On the off chance someone isn't aware, Oldboy is actually the second (I think) in a trilogy by Chan-wook Park.
The first being Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance , followed by Oldboy, then Lady Vengeance Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance may deal with themes even more desperate than Oldboy, it's definitely not the feel good movie of the summer. Lady Vengeance isn't quite as bleak, in comparison to the preceding films it feels like a Disney flick. I'd definitely recommend them both highly to anybody who enjoyed Oldboy. There's been a kind of renaissance in Korean cinema lately, and there's plenty of good stuff to be found if you're willing to sift through some clunkers. I really liked a film called 'Memories of Murder', a true story detailing South Korea's first serial killer in 1986, and the efforts of their podunk police in dealing with a sort of monster which completely exceeded their grasp. |

Casino Royale - 7/10
I really enjoyed this one although the pace slowed quite a bit after a certain point (those who've seen it will know when). Craig gave a great performance and I look forward to future releases in the franchise. |

However, I am offended by unfunny humor. I didn't get this movie at all and I don't get why everyone else "gets it". My friends think that I am just trying to suck up to the women we hang out with that were offended by it, but I thought it really sucked. As a matter of fact the deleted scenes were about the only things that I laughed out from the entire DVD. Thumbs way down. (2/10) |

I'd give Borat an 8. If I were going to judge it on the actual jokes and sketches and things, it would be about a 5 - I laughed, but it's not exactly comedic gold. To me, the actual jokes and stupid things that he gets people to say is funny and all, but that's not what makes it such a good movie IMO. I enjoyed it more because it was pretty brilliant satire that was trying to make a point that has much less to do with poo-joke humour than it seems. That he can make a movie like that and still get tons of people rolling in the aisles and not caring about the real issues it's highlighting, well that takes some talent IMO. |

Harsh Times - 5/10
Christian Bale is my favorite actor which is why I rented this film. He gives an outstanding performance in this gritty drama about two friends in Los Angeles. It isn't the best story or script but Bale's performance is worth seeing. |

7.8/10 I think I lost about 50 IQ points after watching this movie but it was pretty funny. Luke Wilson's character is selected to a hibernation program and was meant to be frozen for a year but is forgotten and wakes up 500 years later to a world that has dumbed down. BTW, I noticed a lot of Hispanics in the movie... what exactly are they trying to say? :p The Departed 8.9/10 Ehh, not nearly as good as I was expecting after all the hype. It was good and the actors were awesome, but I guess I was expecting a hell of a lot more than what I got. Sorry, probably not a popular opinion but at the end of the movie I felt kinda jipped I thought I was missing something. Borat 9.5/10 wow.just.wow. It started as soon as we opened up the DVD. So many great one-liners and the 30 minutes that didn't make the final cut were LOL funny. |

Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness - 10/10
I've seen this movie countless times growing up, but it had been like 5 years since I last saw it until last night... I'd actually forgotten how great it was. I watched it with 3 girls who had never seen it and even they found it hilarious which surprised me considering it has always struck me as a very blokey movie. |
Rocky Balboa
9.5/10 Great story and the cinematography during the fight was amazing. I teared up a bit after the movie but it's to be expected. Very inspiring movie... awesome, awesome, awesome. I'm not sure if anyone has seen Rocky Balboa since "jbmagic's True Identity" video came out but I couldn't help to see Lathum, Schmidty, Pumpy, st.cronin and the rest of them as part of the cast. At one point I asked Antmeister, "OMG, am I romantically involved with jbmagic?!" Heh, kinda funny. |

Reign Over Me - 3 of 5 stars
The big question I have is really "why Adam Sandler?" If you're trying to make a movie, why roll the dice on him rather than bring in a true dramatic actor? I guess no one would watch. Maybe it's the same reason you use 9/11 as the backdrop rather than a car accident or a fire or something. Anyway, Sandler is OK, he has some funny moments, but he doesn't quite pull off a number of dramatic scenes for me (mostly in the final 1/3rd of the film). I will say that overall Sandler played a pretty good crazy character, and not Hollywood crazy (like someone zany and eccentric), but real-world, a little bit scary to be around crazy. The character felt believably unstable. Don Cheadle does his thing and turns in another very solid under-the-radar performance. He feels like a real character surrounded by a couple suspect ones. The last 1/3rd drags and there were a couple awkward plot points I won't get into. I don't regret watching this movie, but I wouldn't really recommend it either. I am entirely neutral towards this movie. |
Casino Royale - 8/10 Best Bond movie since Live and Let Die, and I'm not certain it isn't better than that too. It's about time they made Bond a real man instead of the cartoon the franchise has become. I can't wait for Craig's next one.

SAW III
8.6/10 Finally got to see it since it came out on DVD. A doctor gets kidnapped and asked to perform surgery on Jigsaw. Typical SAW storyline with lots of gore. Casino Royale 8.5/10 Craig was very cool and sexy. This was my first Bond movie and now that we have Blockbuster Total Access, I'll be renting a whole bunch of them to catch up. I heard on a movie podcast that Tarantino was asked to direct this movie but declined because he felt Brosnan was the best Bond ever... dunno if that's true or not. Great movie I can't believe I missed out on so much. We have Snakes on a Plane which I'm planning on watching tonight and Children of Men is also awaiting to be seen. |

Children of Men - 8/10 This movie was very different than I expected. I knew the premise that children weren't being born and society was just getting older, but that was really just the backdrop of the movie. The real story was about how quickly and easily everything can fall apart and create a dystopia. I've always been a fan of dystopian stories and this one was pretty decent. The final act was a bit disappointing when the focus shifted in ways I won't spoil for anyone, but still pretty good.

Children of Men 7/10 I have to say I was disappointed in the ending. But over all it was a good movie with great acting. It is one of those movies that really makes you think about the future and how quickly it can all fall apart.
The Illusionist 9.5/10 This was a terrific movie. I wasn't expecting a lot when I start watching but it was extremely interesting with a terrific plot. The ending could have been a little better but it was still a great movie. |
GRINDHOUSE!
Very amped to see this because of Tarantino. The presentation was very old schooly. I'll give it overall a 7/10. Planet Terror - 5/10. I got some laughs but I am completely disinterested in zombie films and I don't even think this was a good one, but I think still Rodriguez accomplished what he set out to do. Make it a little cheesey, a little over the top, a lot of action. Rose McGowan is hot. Death Proof - 8/10. Tarantino is still a master of dialogue. I like how there were NO special effects in this at all. I liked it, of course I'd like it, it's Tarantino. JeeberD if you are reading, Shiner Bock is all over in this movie. Anyways, it was worth the price of admission. |
