Gamestop has $40 off Madden 11 if you trade in Madden 10... lol...

sterlingice 03-01-2010 11:24 PM

Wouldn't that actually be a halfways decent deal? You get the new Madden for $20 and football season is over so most people are bored of it at this point. Then again, it looks like ebgames has the old Madden used for $50 still at this point in the year. But they'd have to sell a lot of copies between now and, what, August, to make it worth their while?

Then again, I haven't played a Madden game for years so what do I know.

FYI Amazon has a good deal for PS3 gamers.

Trade in your copy of Madden 10 for a $35.50 Amazon GC.

&

Pre-order Madden 11 on Amazon and you receive a $20 credit toward a future video game purchase (on any console).

Although you can't use the $20 credit *for* Madden 11 it's still a pretty good deal.

Indie Games midweek madness on Steam - $2 each or 7 games for $10

DataKing 03-04-2010 11:11 AM

Newegg has Battlefield: Bad Company 2 for the PC for $44.99 and free shipping for the PC, $54.99 + free shipping for consoles.

Not a game I'm interested in, but I know there are others around here who are.

Edit: Those are all "Limited Edition" versions. Not sure what difference that makes, but there you are.

MikeVic 03-04-2010 11:26 AM

Limited Edition comes with six unlocks (4 vehicle and 2 classic WW2 weapons).

I just got an e-mail from Amazon giving me a heads-up that it will have gold box deals on PS3 games all day on Tuesday.

I've never really checked out the gold box deals on video games at Amazon. Does it ever result in any material discounts for decent games?

Sometimes, yup, but the regular Gold Box doesn't have game deals all that often - usually only in the kind of situation you mentioned, where an entire day is dedicated to one platform or another.

The gaming Deal of the Day will occasionally have something nifty. Not today, of course, but I want to say a week or two ago they had Mass Effect for $39 on 360 and $29 on PC. Just as an example.

Cool. If you can remember, can you give me an example of a Gold Box deal on a game? Is it drastic? For example, I'd love to see Heavy Rain at $39.99. Or is it more realistic that it will be $45.99? Not that the $6 is that big of a deal, but just wondering what to expect.

Eh, it depends.

Depends on the time of year - the gaming Gold Boxes are interesting around holidays - but it also depends on specifically what goes into the Gold Box.

I don't recall seeing one that was totally stuffed with new releases. Don't hold your breath for Heavy Rain, MLB 10: The Show, God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Age Origins: Awakening, for example.

The cup don't runneth over THAT much, usually. How deep the discount is also varies. My guess is that the deeper discounts will be for titles that just haven't moved as Amazon expected them to, and something like Heavy Rain would probably be at more like a $45.99 price point. Decent discount, but not to-the-bone.

Ugh, I really like Amazon, but this sucks. This is from the e-mail I received the other day.

"Dear Amazon.com Customer,
As someone who has shopped PlayStation 3 at Amazon.com, you might like to know that on Tuesday, March 22, 2010, the Amazon.com Gold Box will feature video game products for PlayStation 3 gamers all day long."

The date didn't stick in my head, but "Tuesday" did. I guess I'll have to double check the actual dates from now on. Luckily, there's no games that I wanted anyway, but it would have sucked if there was one that I wanted.

They got the date right. Just the wrong day of the week.

I've had my own issues with Amazon and email marketing. They emailed me offering a product at a crazy low price and then refused to honor that price, calling it a mistake. I'm sorry, you direct-market to me, you lose the right to beg off on mistakes.

It's why I went through my profile there and turned off any option they had to email me for any reason other than "your product has shipped" after that.

Is it really a turn based strategy game? Looking at it, it appears to be a first person shooter.

It is definitely a turn-based strategy game and one of the most visually appealing games I have played. When you freeze the action, it is as if you are looking at a frame in a beautifully illustrated comic book. Highly recommended.

Yeah, it's absolutely amazing. I'm not sure I've enjoyed playing a turn-based strategy game more than this one. It was a lot of fun and brought a nice new twist to the genre.

They're actually developing a sequel to this game on the PSP right now. I'm hoping that they release it as a digital download on the PS3 so I can play it on the big screen.

I feel dirty taking a MBBF suggestion, but Antmeister's seconding has me trying to get in on this. I love a good turn-based strategy game.

Edit: Sold out on-line (or otherwise unavailable) but the Gamestop near my work has it in stock. Hopefully, they will properly honor the online price.

I'm honestly surprised that this game hasn't got more chatter on this board. It's a game that's right up the alley of most people on this board. It's one of those games where you start playing it and you wonder why no one had thought of doing it that way before because it works so well.

Even at $29.99 retail price, this game is well worth the purchase. It's a ridiculous steal at that online price.

I've watched a friend of mine play it a few times and I agree. It looks very cool and has some great turn-based elements to it. I just wish it wasn't so... anime.

And perhaps that what I can't get past. It just looks silly for a strategy game.

Yep, this thing is a Diablo-Clone, which is pretty cool. I didn't realize that it would be, except without online capabilities.

I've gone through 15 or so floors so far plus lots of other side floors; it's good stuff and I'll definitely play it sparingly when I don't have a lot going on.
