I just rewatched that Rove 2012 meltdown video. They called Ohio when Obama was 30k up and 27% of the vote was still remaining. And it actually tightened right after that.

molson 11-07-2020 08:52 AM

Nate Silver said the the theories that the delay were caused by external factors were "stupid" while another 538 writer said just a few days earlier that the race being "contentious" played a part.

Of course they're a part of ABC news we're not getting their normal analysis on this.

Maybe they just don't want to get sued.

Enjoying Morning Joe.

Joe basically said Trump has intimidated the media and it's not the media's job to worry about what society will say or react.

Mika responded by saying it wasn't for Trump, it was for the country (e.g. I read it as for the GOP voters). I hate it but I'm okay waiting a tad longer as MSM had been constantly "count the votes" on Wed & Thu.

Lathum 11-07-2020 09:15 AM

We've waited 4 years to get rid of him, whats a few more days?

molson 11-07-2020 09:19 AM

If Pennsylvania falls within the recount margin, state law gives them three weeks to complete it. Not sure about Georgia. Would the networks call those states with a recount going on?

Last night, I chuckled when a commentator said to the effect "if I was Joe, I would think I've waiting 40 (?) years for this, what's another 4 days".

Election Called by CNN and MSNBC Biden wins PA and the Presidency.

CNN just called it, switched of to Fox News and some pollster is screaming how CNN has explaining to do

timmynausea 11-07-2020 10:28 AM

CNN, ABC, and NBC have all called it.

timmynausea 11-07-2020 10:30 AM

They should have realized it for a day or two now, but with how chaotic it's going, fed by the president himself, their denial is understandable.

timmynausea 11-07-2020 10:47 AM

Fox now calling it and calling Nevada for Biden as well as Pennsylvania.

Edward64 11-07-2020 10:50 AM

I'm happy they finally called it.

Let's see how the Trumpers react.

Question - so who was first (actually second I guess) to call it - CNN? and wonder if the others had stuff all setup, ready to press the button when someone else called it (probably).

Heh. Trump is at his golf course. He'll have to drive through celebrations to get back to the WH

Trump got the full 2020 experience. He got COVID, then he got fired.

No. They are "the current partner in life of..." the President elect and Vice-President elect. It's outdated to have a special terms for it and maintain the inequality between people that by mother earth's flip of the coin by birth were supposedly made fit or not fit to get tagged with it. Retire these terms, this is the opportune, of not the perfect, moment for it.

My FB feed is a steady stream of mainly Georgians and Floridians who I thought were otherwise normal people just going off on how the election was stolen and how we'l be a communist/socialist country in less than 4 years. I actually got in the middle of a conversation between my wife and her sister where she was spouting all of the election fraud conspiracy stuff and tried to calmly explain some of the stuff I know she has never heard (i.e., the truth) and she hung up on us and called their mother crying hysterically.

I feel like I have to completely reprioritize the people I want anywhere near my life, and I don't care if it impacts family or not. I'm a lifelong moderate conservative who voted for a Democrat at the national level for the first time in my life and I'm being treated like I'm an Antifa Bernie Bro.

This is what Donald Trump has done to our nation.

Thank god I am not at that point with my family but there is tension for sure. I agree you need to reprioritize. If these people won't accept a "no politics" policy it has to move to a no relationship policy.

It's terribly sad.

I agree with you but ummm have you noticed how the United States has been dealing with gender neutral terms? We are trying to bring the country together. I can't be completely sure that introducing such a change won't derail that unity train before it gets started. Baby steps.

Still pretty positive Bernie would have carried all of the midwestern states. He was a bulldog rather than Biden pussycat. And He spoke of great messages like a president. Nothing he said was controversial. Hell they labelled Biden and Harris as socialists and their party bought it when they are anything but..

and yes it does sound like you need new friends or at least try to talk sense to the old ones if that is at all possible

I think Trump beats Bernie pretty easily based on the results we see here. Joe was the best nominee to defeat Trump (not my personal choice of who I like the best)

I know a ton of Never Trumpers and not a single one of us would have voted for Bernie. I would have gone Libertarian like the last 3 elections.

These are my rural Ohio friends. I don't understand the fear when the most likely outcome just happened 2012-2016.

Ksyrup 11-07-2020 12:44 PM

It's mostly irrational, but the one thing that is different is Biden's age.

Ksyrup 11-07-2020 12:51 PM

I hope this is real.

I'm of this belief, too. And I say this as someone who voted for Warren in the primary.

SI

Ksyrup 11-07-2020 12:53 PM

The 6 looks suspicious.

Ksyrup 11-07-2020 12:54 PM

Watching Fox News right now and it's over. Karl Rove is congratulating Biden, Chris Wallace is pointing out all the GOPers congratulating him and says look at our chyron, it says Biden is 46th president.

NobodyHere 11-07-2020 12:56 PM

Are they avoiding using the term "president-elect"? Or did they back off on that?

Yeah, I have to admit, I'm too optimistic about this issue.

The gender issues are not specific to the USA, really. All our related languages are infected with "he" and "she", "-man" and "-woman". Even when you try to use a gender neutral term, people automatically assume that neutral is a man.

First hand experience, last couple of months, every time I told people I have a new 'manager' (the title doesn't 100% fit, but it works for the purposes of the context), they ask me "what is he like?". Me response: "he is a she". Their response: "okay, what does she look like, is she hot/cute?" My response: "that's irrelevant, she's my manager".

But at the same time, it's also a matter of just doing it. First Spouse, Second Spouse. But I get it, "Lady" and "Gentleman" sound much fancier than "Spouse". First Significant Other is way too long as well. :D

Bernie couldn't get his voters out for the primary yet he was going to get 70+ million in the general?

Trump would have gotten his landslide against Bernie and I was a Warren supporter as well. The socialism stuff was sticking on a career moderate, it would have destroyed Bernie's campaign.

Exactly. I wouldn't have voted for him because he wouldn't have had a chance in hell of winning, so I would have treated it like the past few elections where I voted 3rd party.

COVID killed his campaign in February. Bernie is useless if you can't get that guy in front of a crowd. Dems were not throwing away their shot.
