Which ones did you pick up? |
Thinking about giving Small World a try. I love some other DoW games but I've never played the board game. Any thoughts?

I've been really happy so far with the free version of Logmein. I get sound, and it does everything I've wanted to do. I can run Spotify through my desktop and get hat on the iPad, play FOF or other apps I can't get on here. It's great. |
Quote:
Small World is 2-player only so bear that in mind. It's kinda fun with another human player. The AI is terrible so it's not much of a challenge most of the time. Would highly recommend Ticket to Ride, it's great. |
tigris and the island one...havnt really opened em up yet.

Pocket League Story released for the iPhone
|
Yeah meeeen.
|
Ugh. Is anyone else experiencing the bug on Pocket League Story that essentially breaks the game in the 2nd playthrough? After winning the Amateur League, no new matches unlock.
|
Pocket League Story for iPhone?! :D :D :D *runs to download*
|
I bought it but it's having trouble downloading apparently. Is frozen on Loading with an empty black bar
|
I'd hold off on purchasing until they fix the bugs. :)
|
Too late. :) The Regional League came up no problem for me BTW after winning Amateur League. So far only problem I've noticed is an awfully stuttery screen during the actual games.
|
Izulde: For the Android version, if I do Menu then Settings, then change Graphics from Perf to Graphics then back again, the stuttering goes away. Maybe something similar will work on iOS.
|

First playthrough is good. It's in the second playthrough that the game breaks. For some reason the sponsors/team stuff is maxed out and you can't unlock regional anymore, leaving you stuck. |
Quote:
btw if it crashes randomly on Android then it might be down to multiple inputs at once - I found that if you did a multi-touch input on my A500 then it 'went down' ... I've mentioned it to the developers and I expect it'll be fixed in an update (if it hasn't been already) as they seem decent blokes* :D *And incredibly talented, I unashamedly love their games - thought they did a really really good job with Football League Story very cool and fun to play :D |
Woowoo.
1.0.1 Update is out for Pocket League Story! Fixes the second playthrough bug. GAME ON. Marc, any chance you can collaborate with these guys? :P |
Not sure if this has been mentioned here, but..
I've been playing this game called Hero Academy. I REALLY like it. The best I can describe it is it's a sort of chess-like board game, but with RPG elements of gearing up characters, different traits for characters, etc. It's free with some minor micro-transactions - free gets you the humans, $.99 gets you the elves. $.99 more gets you some color options. I think you can buy avatars too for $.99. |
Quote:
funny you mention this, I downloaded it and started my first game yesterday. Don't know what I'm doing but it looks like fun. The 99 cents sale on the dark elves is over though. My nick is FrogMan if you wanna challenge me to a game. FM |
Quote:
Actually, looks like sale was extended through today. Anyway - sent you a challenge. Wasn't sure if you had dark elves, so started with the humans. |
Quote:
nah, still showing up at $1.99 for me, no biggie, I'll probably buy it anyway if only to get rid of the ads. This is only my second game but I already find it interesting that the setup of the game is different from one game to the next. The entry points and crystals are not at the same place as in my other game... I think I'll love that game. Love asynchronous games. FM |
Quote:
Yeah, there are a handful of maps you can start on. The elves are worth it to me. To be honest, once you use the elves you probably won't like the humans nearly as much ;). |
I had grabbed Hero Academy but uninstalled it for lack of a single player option. But I guess I should reinstall. My nick will be the same as always...
|
anybody around here ever heard of Caylus? It's supposedly a big deal that it's coming to the iOS...
Caylus Comes To iOS -- AppAdvice I'm not board game geek per se. I learned to play Carcassonne with my iDevice and I'm learning about other board games as they come to the iOS, think Ticket to Ride or Settlers of Catan (which I have but have yet to really fool around with). I'm pretty sure others will know about it. The first review seems pretty good... Game has asynchronous multiplayer... FM |
I've never played Caylus, but I think I had it on my wishlist at Boardgamegeek. I just never saw it when I went to the game store. So I'll pick it up. $5 and it's universal so I can play it on my Ipad as well.
I bought Elder Signs on the Ipad last week. It has separate versions for Ipad and Iphone/Itouch. It is a cross between Arkham Horror and Yahtzee, since everything revolves around rolling d6s and uses the characters and theme from Arkham Horror. I like it, but it is solo only. Would be nice to have multiplayer. |
Are there any particularly good asynchronous or single player strategy games people would recommend?
|
One word: Carcassonne. :)
FM |
I also like Disc Drivin' and the aforementioned Hero Academy for asynchronous play. Although DD isn't really strategic.
FM |
And as those who have mentioned Hero Academy on this thread would tell you, if you DL it, I will play you.
|
Tiny Heroes is free for a limited time.
Also, Triple Town is a nice match3 town builder |
Anybody have any decent turn-based tactical RPGs on iPhone? I know I can get Final Fantasy Tactics...and I really do love that game, but the control is a little weird on the iPhone.
I've been playing ChronoTrigger on my 3DS and keep having a yen for a turn-based strategy type game, probably in part due to Hero Academy (which I'm not sure I really "get" yet with regards to strategy....I'd kinda like a single player version to better understand that one). TouchArcade seems to like Time of Heroes well enough...anybody play it? /tk |

Wesnoth, TacWarrior, Great Little War Game, Tradewinds 2 (sort of). |
Board Game Geek released their 2011 iOS Board Games Awards
Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer pulled in a lot of top honors, with a lot of debate in the comments section. Also Dominion by Donald X. Vaccarino was released as a free app, Rio Grande says its ok but will have to be pulled once the official Dominion is released in a few weeks. |
So I finally figured out what it was about Hero Academy that wasn't quite...jiving for me. Now that I know what it is and accepted it, I think I like the game more. I think it's too much luck/very hard to get a real strategy going on. Without a fixed set of players to use, and without fixed abilities on them, and then with random items, it seems that you're relying mostly on luck and then brute strength power-ups to really get on in a game. I think one of the things I like best about tactical RPGs (like Final Fantasy Tactics) is developing the right party to do the task, and determining what items I need to ensure a victory. I also think it's somewhat biased to whoever goes first. Of course, I might be wrong and maybe there is a fixed cast of characters/tools you'll get on each board. Haven't played too many games yet.
That said, it's fun. :) I really do wish there was a player vs. AI mode so I could play it in my downtime at work without having to wait for others to take turns. :) /tk |

Wanted to say thanks for that heads up. Downloaded it when I saw your post, played some with it and had enough fun that I paid for the IAP purchase of unlimited turns. This is a nice match3 type of game done in a different way... FM |
just updated my Ticket to Ride Pocket game and weehee, they've added online multiplayer!!!
Quote:
This makes it just like Carcassonne and so, it jumps at the top of my multiplayer games! Anybody up for a game? :) And speaking of multiplayer games, I'll be finishing my Hero Academy games but will not start any new games. For some reason, I don't have as much fun with it as with Carcassonne. I'll probably uninstall it once all my games are done with... FM |
I invited you and Dataking to a game.
|
My 6yo daughter might be up for a game, she really loves Ticket To Ride!
|
Lonnie, never received your challenge but I sent you one.
FM |
Is it possible to play Ticket to Ride online using the iPad app? If so, send me an invite, FrogMan.
|
Quote:
no clue if it works or not but I did send you a game request via Gamecenter... FM |
Quote:
I got it and they want me to buy the iPhone version to play you. How stupid is that? The iPad version should have the same features. |
Well that's silly. And disappointing.

So I heard about this RPG-esque table coming to Zen Pinball the other day and realized I had never played Zen Pinball. It's made by the same people that made Pinball FX2 for consoles and it's quite nice. It comes with a free board, others can be purchased via in-app purchase. I have the base table and the "Excalibur" table. I think I've said before that I really like pinball. When the Epic Quest table comes out this month, I'll definitely pay for that one, too. It's the RPG-esque table. I'm looking forward to it. Epic Quest will also be coming out for Pinball FX2 as far as I know...

I still have no idea what I'm doing. This is the time I wish some of my friends in non-internet land played board games. I have a feeling this is a game I'd get a LOT more if I played an open round with someone IRL. I have no idea what the different cards I'm looking at mean or what can really happen on each turn. /tk |
Reader's Digest: You can do one of three things: Play a route, draw more train cards, or draw more tickets.
The meat and potatoes of the game is to play routes: you play color-coded cards from your hand to complete them. For example, to complete a route between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, you would play three orange cards. That route is now yours for the rest of the game, and you get 4 points for playing a 3 car route. That's your entire turn, and you then wait until the next turn. In the case of Vancouver to Calgary, you must play three cards - they can be any color, as long as all three of them are the SAME color. The rainbow locomotive cards count as any color you want them to. EDIT: The dual tracks (like those between Seattle and Vancouver) are actually two separate tracks. Two different players can claim each leg of the track. However, the dual nature is only open in 4 or 5 player games. In a 2 or 3 player game, once one track is claimed, the other is closed. When you need more colored cards, you use your turn to draw cards. You draw two at a time, in any combination of face-up or face-down from the draw pile. The only exception to this rule is if a locomotive (the rainbow colored card) is face up - if you draw that one it counts as both of your draws. The last bit of the game is the tickets. At the end of the game, if you can trace a continuous line of your own trains between the two cities, you GAIN the points listed on the ticket. If you can't, you LOSE those points. If you would like, instead of playing a route or drawing more cards to PLAY, you can draw more tickets. You draw three at a time, and you can keep as many of them as you would like. You MUST keep at least one, however. |
Speaking of, I'd love to get in on the Ticket to Ride games. I'm under the nick pianomanvinnie.
|
Thanks for the invite! How do I send messages in game? I'm going to have to stop paying attention in a few minutes as I have some friends on the way over :)
|
I don't know if you can message in game. Good win. That was a close one.
|
Hey for anybody with the Inns & Cathedrals expansion on Carcassonne, what's the difference in scoring in this expansion? I saw one of my towns got 0 points but I missed why....
