Yes.

DaddyTorgo 07-18-2013 12:58 PM

Yes - it's a good game, especially at that price.

Arles 07-18-2013 01:21 PM

Pretty excited XCOM is down to $10. As I setup my cart, what are your guys' opinion on Magicka? It's on sale for $2.49.

Can be a blast with other people. Single player is kind of average.

FrogMan 07-18-2013 02:07 PM

I'm also unsure about XCOM, mostly because I don't know much about the franchise, and I've already bought quite a few this time around...

Will think about it... which means I'll probably get it at some point tonight ;)

What do you mean about that? I know nothing about WarZ but my son really wanted to get it.

After reading a bit about, I get the feeling it's pretty bad... Still, can it be that bad that even getting it for $3.74 is not worth it?

Does the DLC help or do you just need the game? The game is $2.49 while the full collection (22 items + DLC) is $8.74.

FrogMan 07-18-2013 02:13 PM

silly question. If you had to choose between Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes for $13.59 or XCOM: Ennemy Unknown for $9.99, which would you pick?

I know they're not the same type, but they kinda, sorta fall in the turn based type game and I might be tempted by one of the two...

I haven't messed with the DLC yet. I've heard the Vietnam expansion is pretty good though.

Hrmm... A tough call.

I think XCom is a better game overall. It's really quite excellent.

That said, at least for me, it lacks much in the way of re-playability. I played through it, really enjoyed it, beat it and then moved on.

I think Fallen Enchantress has much more re-playability, because it's more of a Civ type game and really allows for vast customization. So, if you end up liking it, you may get a little more bang for your buck.

If someone told me that I could only own one of the two, I'd still go with XCom.

I didn't "get" it either and got it gifted to me awhile back.. fantastic game, turn based strategy game more or less.

One note on the DLC, if you're playing multiplayer you don't need to own the DLC to play it if the host of your game does. So if you and some friends are purchasing it to play together only one needs to buy the DLC pack.

Got my key yesterday!

Though I did notice the other day that I could be playing in a Dota tournament on the day Shadowrun comes out. I don't think it will happen because I think we'd need to win 3 games to play on the 25th and I've got no idea how good my team or the other teams playing are. Kind of hoping we don't make it through though.

Arles 07-18-2013 03:10 PM

Took the plunge and bought XCom and the Magicka collection for under $20 total.

DaddyTorgo 07-18-2013 03:21 PM

I think I finally had a Eureka! moment with XCom last night re: keeping my soldiers closer together in order to provide more firepower. I was spreading them too far apart before.

I'm down for that game, ordered it a few weeks ago soon as I heard about it. Yes, I'm slow sometimes.

So far this Summer Sale, even though I'm limited to games I can play.

I guess no one has picked this one up. I probably am for only $10. Might be worth a flyer, based on the generally positive reviews I've seen.

Critch 07-18-2013 08:58 PM

I have Euro Truck Simulator 2. It's a lot better than a game about driving a truck around Europe has any right to be, but in the end it's still a driving game where you have to obey traffic laws. The business side is quite well done though.

If the thought of that doesnt put you off, you'll get your $10 worth of entertainment from it. I didnt regret buying it.

thanks for your thoughts on the matter. For now, I'm kinda leaning toward XCOM, if only because it's the older of the two games, is cheaper, and is a space themed game. I've got quite a few fantasy type games for now, including Might and Magic Heroes VI that I just bought this Summer...

I'm just the price for FE:LH will fall even further in a future sale...

And I'm still holding out hope that we'll see Expeditions: Conquistador on sale before the 22nd. ;)

I pulled the trigger. Probably won't get to it until next week. Thanks for the info!

Shkspr 07-18-2013 10:49 PM

So I finally pulled the trigger on FM13, and within just a couple of hours of play, the game informed me that I'd managed to complete one of the rarest achievements possible in the game - a feat so amazing, that fewer than one in 200 Steam users had completed it.

Finished the tutorials.

FrogMan 07-18-2013 11:11 PM

not sure this has ever been mentioned but Death Rally for $2.49 is a fun little top down racer. I played quite a lot on my iPhone, bought it on Steam when it came out but was out of time and just gifted it to my son the other day. Looking forward to race him, or do some coop work with him...

I did as well, based mainly on stuff I'd heard Critch mention about it in the past. I've driven a few routes, turned on a WTF podcast for it and that passed the time quite nicely.

SirFozzie 07-19-2013 01:16 AM

You Shadowrun folks are going to have to help me out.. I have a Shadowrun Returns Hack-A-Thon (IE, four hour session to build a module contest with a prize to the best module) at GenCon, and with the delayed release, I only have three weeks to learn a lot of the stuff about the editor before GenCon.

So you may be asked to be beta testers as I try the system out,

I've been a little disappointed, to be honest. I mean, the production values for both Arkham games are terrific but I already feel like it's repetitive and I'm not all that far into it. Kicking the crap out of henchmen was fun for a while, but after a while it's like "gee, another fight?"

Bobble 07-19-2013 11:29 AM

Free guest passes. FREE!

I have a few Guest Pass: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad - GOTY and Guest Pass: Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45. This pass only gives you access to the full version of this game for a limited time period. The Heroes of Stalingrad passes say 3-day pass. I presume the Ostfront ones are the same but they don't specifically say. Anyone want?

Hadn't seen this until now, but everything I've seen about it has it being a terrible game. On Metacritic is has a 20 with a 1.5 user score, and if you want to see for yourself...

It was likely quickly made with the title The War Z so people would confuse it with DayZ, though the name change came after the trademark for the name was denied after being too close to World War Z.

Izulde 07-19-2013 01:40 PM

Same question re: Fable 3 I had with DA:O - Is there enough in the way of modding to make PC pickup worthwhile if I already have the console version? Initial googling says no.

Izulde 07-19-2013 01:43 PM

Also, anyone played the Monaco heist game?

The issue with X-Com right now is the teleporting aliens issue. I had one game destroyed by this (battleship capture-the-overlord mission) where I was eking it out, then an alien teleported into the middle of a group and destroyed what chance I had left, and another one ruined when aliens appeared in a cleared area (played the "wake-up" cutscene with them gutting a body everything).

The thing to remember is XCom is not a tactical combat game, it's a chess game. Trying to use flanking tactics will just wake enemies up and make it near impossible to win, you have to advance, destroy the aliens you wake up, then advance more. As a chess game, it's pretty fun, once you figure out it's a chess game and play it that way rather than trying to use "good tactics". The problem is, every now and then the aliens get to violate all the rules through the teleport bug, and it's no fun playing chess against someone who cheats.

This issue actually got worse for me (I didn't have the bad cases until the latest patch), and I've put the game away until they release a patch that fixes it. To me it's a game-killing bug, which is disappointing because the rest is so very well done. One little thing just kills it for me.

I was just listening to itunes while playing. There is some kind of integrated radio stuff but I'm not terribly interested in that.

Quote:

So far all I've done are some "quick jobs" which involve driving from city to city for someone else to earn cash. The reviews I've read make it sound like the business side of things once you can start to buy your own trucks is well done, but I'm still a ways from getting to that I think.

I go through phases where I like to listen to a lot of podcasts, and I watch a ton of league of legends matches, but if teams I'm not quite as interested in are playing I like having something light and somewhat mindless to do. This game seems like it will fill that need for a little while at least. Perhaps once I get further into it I'll find there's more there, but for now that's where it sits for me.

I played through the entire game and never really ran across this issue. Maybe I finished it before the latest patch came up and made it worse. I heard about this happening a few times here and there, but nothing systemic or game breaking. Then again, not sure when the latest patch was released.

That said, I do agree that the game does "punish" you in a way for trying to flank enemies or advance quickly because it "pops" a set of aliens on you.

It's probably the most fun I've had with a co-op game. Still alright but not nearly as good on its own. Fairly unique in that it can actually get harder the more people you are playing with.

I wish I could. There were two Civ IV's in my inventory. I thought, "I'll just add one to my library and I'll still have one to give away." When I added it, they both went to my library. The second one says "not available on your current platform." I think maybe it was one PC and one Mac. Sorry to yank your chain. Would you like a Guest Pass: Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad - GOTY instead?

edit: Top of page! Don't I get a FOFC trading card for that? All I need is FOFC: Dola and I'll have the set!
