I'm tempted, but no. I'll wait.

Got my PoE steam key and pre loaded. Can't wait to dig into it tomorrow!
|
I pre-ordered PoE and am excited about it.

I won't get my hopes up that this means there is HL3 coming down the pike anytime soon. But this will be cool to check out.
Half-Life 2: Update on Steam |
Anyone play Ironcast yet?
Edit: Saw this over at DQ as Bill Harris wrote about it, so for $10 and some change I just installed it. Quite a neat little game thus far. |
SteamSpy - All the data about Steam games
Now you can see how many copies your favorite games have sold on Steam. |
So Front Office Football has sold 8940 copies?
|
Quote:
I guess. The chart is a little confusing since the "number of owners" somehow drops and raises. |
I'm confused by it, but it says that FOF has twice as many owners as the new OOTP....which is surprising to me.
|
The numbers on games with lower sales numbers could be off due to small sample size (see the +/- 100% on OOTP16), though numbers on games with 100k copies sold seem to be fairly accurate at least.
EDIT: According to the site's creator, "Anything below 30K frankly isn't reliable - be it owners data or players data." |
Men of War is the top selling game?
|
It looks like a recent free weekend is throwing off the numbers there.
|
Since I am a geek for numbers...
My Top 10 played 1) Worldwide Soccer Manager 2009 (long running time at the top) 2) Skyrim (should overtake the top spot soon) 3) Plants versus Zombies (thanks to letting my daughters play before my oldest got Steam and my youngest got less interested in the game; granted some of the play time was mine) 4) OOTP 15 5) FM 2011 6) Mass Effect 7) MLB 2K12 8) FM 2010 9) FM 2013 10) Defense Grid: The Awakening Easily the FM/WSM franchise leads the way (and oddly I am not normally a soccer guy) Over Past Two Weeks 1) EHM (by a wide margin; more than the next two combined) 2) Skyrim 3) Thief: Gold 4) Half Life 2: Update 5) CS:GO 6) OOTP 16 7) Frozen Cortex 8) OOTP 15 9) theHunter: Primal 10) TEW 2010 |
This is somewhat skewed by the fact that I used to play a lot in offline mode. But, for all time.
1) FM 2014 (I have > 100 hours more on this than my #2) 2) FM 2012 3) Civ 5 4) Europa Universalis 4 5) Dota 2 6) Crusader Kings 2 7) Skyrim 8) Tropico 4 9) OOTP 14 10) Banished |
I think FOF is skewed quite a bit, but already in my all-time most played.
1.) Crusader Kings II 2.) Wasteland 2 3.) Europa Universalis 4 4.) FOF 7 5.) Empire: Total War 6.) March of Eagles 7.) Banished 8.) Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim 9.) Fallout 3 10.) State of Decay And the only one that will challenge those for some time is Pillars of Eternity. I think the main theme here are "games I can play and also multitask". |
1. FM 2013 (though the numbers are inflated by my leaving the game up while I go do other stuff)
2. Crusader Kings II (Probably my most played by actual time) 3. FM 2010 (See 1) 4. FM 2014 (See 1,3) 5. Shadowrun Returns (This is where the big dropoff occurs - from triple digits to 34 hours) 6. Tropico 4 7. Long Live the Queen 8 Out of the Park Baseball 14 (This *has* to be another one I've let run while I've done other stuff... I've opened it maybe five times total) 9. Tropico 3 10. Game Dev Tycoon So in reality, CK2 and Tropico series are most played. If hour tracking was still around with CK1, that would be up there, too. |
1. NBA 2K12
2. FM 2010 3. Mount & Blade: Warband 4. Total War: Shogun 2 5. FM 2012 6. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim 7. Crusader Kings II 8. XCOM: Enemy Unknown 9. Mass Effect 2 10. Fallout: New Vegas |
I have played CS:GO for over 3,000 hours. ho-boy...
|
Interesting to see where the friends play list comes into play:
Last Two weeks: OOTP 16 288 hours NBA 2K15 248 hours FM 2015 200 hours Pillars of Eternity 185 hours EHM 185 hours Gems of War 87 hours Cities Skylines 85 hours Marvel Puzzle Quest 55 hours OOTP 15 52 hours Tales of Maj'Eyal 50 hours Lifetime: FM 2014 15,996 hours FM 2012 14,807 hours FM 2010 12,304 hours FM 2013 11,059 hours ??? Something with no picture or name 9,502 (maybe that is any non-steam game?) Civ V 5,418 hours FM 2015 3,886 hours Skyrim 3,805 hours DOTA 2 3,444 hours Crusader Kings 2 3,272 hours With most of the friends list being FOFC members it leans heavily towards the FM series. |
I don't know if this has been posted before (and it's not solely Steam-related) but: Scenario Generator | Random Challenges for Great Games It rolls up a random challenge for a number of games, Civ, Minecraft, Dwarf Fortress, Skyrim, Kerbal, Pillars of Eternity...
|
Cool, thanks for the link.

Stardrive 2 is out. I know SD 1 got a lot of backlash, but I enjoyed it for what is was. SD 2 is now turned based instead of RTS like SD 1 was. You also get 33% off if you purchased SD 1.

I don't know if I'm still findable as 'JoshGamenikki,' as I changed my handle to DFiPL. I bring that up mostly because a Nero2015 sent me a friend request.
Thing is, the profile is private, so I have no idea who in the flying fuck that is. If that's you, or if anybody can vouch for whomever that is, let me know and I'll accept it. Otherwise, the invite is getting trashed in a couple days. |
theres been a lot of weird or fake friend requests going around. I would assume its fake.
you can add me though, I'm real. haha. |
Yeah, I see you in the FOFC group, Ramza.

Yeah, been getting a lot of weird friend requests lately from what look like newly created accounts.

Running With Rifles is a strangely addictive little game.

Friend requests followed by a request to trade via a "link" which is actually a virus. I've had a few very recently.
Essentially if you're not someone from FOFC or a personal friend of mine I just decline them. |

Peyton Manning led the league last season with 25,000 passing yards and 200 touchdown passes. ETA... if I were closing in on 10K sales in two months on Steam, I'd be a fool not to be announcing the next version and the hiring of a full-time artist. It has been good for me, but not life-changing good. More like "well, maybe I can keep doing this for a while longer" good. One thing I'm proud of, and it may be why Steam Spy thinks I have so many sales, is that people who are buying it are playing the hell out of it. That's great. Really makes me feel good that a high percentage of those who buy it get their money's worth. |
FM2013 - 2,012 hours
EUIV - 943 hours Civilization V - 847 hours FM2014 - 829 hours FM2015 - 238 hours Skyrim - 171 hours Spelunky - 141 hours Torchlight II - 127 hours Prison Architect - 77 hours The Binding of Isaac - 71 hours It should be noted that I didn't start playing FM off of Steam until it was required with 13. I'm afraid to see how many hours I put on FM07-12 |

They are all in my top 10 even without that, but I added in from my list to show the graphical games. |

someone pm me if you see FalloutVegas complete or Skyrim on sale for cheap. Like around 5-10 bucks.

There was some talk here about Endless Legend a little while ago and I put it on my wish list. I just received a notification that it is on sale for 50% off until April 20 and also free to play for 3 days.

Pillars of Eternity has moved into my top 10 for playing time already.

I think it will eventually for me, though I've been playing more Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin lately which is also well on the way to making it in. |

This is absolutely awesome and pretty unexpected.. An MP league is going to kick major ass with this added on. I'm hoping MP league functionality is next.... Er maybe MP isn't coming. I hope they change their mind on that, but at least we have an SP option for multiple seasons. |
Frozen Cortex didn't hold my interest precisely because of what it was missing. This sounds amazing.
|
Quote:
Yes, it would be wonderful. Fake sports record keeping sounds pretty fucking addicting. However, I quick-simmed through a season, finished with the worst record and was "kicked out of the league" so I didn't get to see any of the draft or anything like that. And currently the player stat page is a long list of random shit that I don't really understand, but at least it is a start. I'm envisioning leaderboards down the road... per game averages, so on and so forth. |

re: Frozen Cortex
Also, why there is only 8 teams in the season mode is kind of disappointing. |
Can't seem to successfully finish a game in Frozen Cortex... it hangs when I try to continue after the final results are displayed.
|
Anyone played 7 Grand Steps? Looks quirky but might be fun.
I just picked up Banner Saga (how'd I miss this?) and Westerado. Banner Saga is a blast. I'm going to get into Westerado when I have more time to dig in. I have a tendency to get into an RPG game, get distracted by anything else, and then forgeet what I was up to. |
Quote:
I've got a couple of hours in it and when I'm playing it I want to keep going, but when I'm done I wonder what I've done and realize that I could've spent my time playing other things. It's ok, but I doubt I'll invest much more time in it. |

I've found that my favorite endless game was Dungeon of the Endless Endless Space was really kind of lifeless Endless Legend I've just haven't felt compelled to put the time in to learn, but there does seem to be a lot of good ideas there. Dungeon of the Endless hooked me even if some parts feel unfair (such as when my characters kill each other on the elevator screen). It seems to have the most original gameplay of the bunch. |
Door Kickers got a lot of attention here at one point. It's on sale right now for $9.99.

Anyone playing Lords of Xulima? Great game if you like the Might and Magic party based combat. Probably logged more than 100 hours with the game - highly recommended.

I can't believe Steam is going to allow people to start charging for workshop mods and shit. Fucking stupid.

Quote:
done; Skyrim is on sale and free to play this weekend. |
Quote:
Yuup, total bullshit. |
I see no problem with somebody wanting to make money off their work and if the game publisher is OK with it, who am I to complain?
|
It sucks in that I will be paying for content I got for free....... but on the other hand, people put a lot of time into some of these mods, and if the publishers will allow them to earn money for their efforts, I actually think that's pretty cool.
|
The issue is going to be that it's very quickly going to become a shittier version of early access - people posting garbage and claiming the world, and eventually people won't buy it because the ratings will be terrible, but some people will get burned. I don't like it at all, think it will probably kill the concept.
|
thanks for the heads up on Skyrim everyone.
Dola, isn't there an anti-spider mod, cause I need to track that down. |
Quote:
Small percent goes to the modders, most goes to Valve and the company that made the game. And there is no oversight with the mods. So lets say I create a kickass mod for $5. Someone just steals it, puts it up and sells it for $1. |
I mean I think the idea can work, but not the way they are implementing it (just a cash grab). A system where verification is made, maybe it has to surpass a certain download/rating threshold before charging too.
|

Be warned this is a pretty tough, unforgiving game. But it is fun. |

I guess it depends on if you trust Steam to enforce it or not, but it's at least addressed in the FAQ: "If you upload copyrighted content that you or your contributors do not have the rights to distribute, then you may forfeit all earned revenue from the item, may be liable for damages and compensation, and may be banned from future participation in this Workshop or the Steam Community in general." |
But, yeah, with legit modders only getting 25%, Valve deserves every bit of the backlash they are getting.
|
Just means I wont be using workshop. Slightly annoyed, but I can live without it.
As for the cut. Modders are just piggy backing on the company that made the game. If Modders want to make money doing that, fine, but the development studio fairly gets the choice to take the lion share of the cut. Nothing to do with Valve, I think Valve's cut is relatively small, like their Steam Market they rely on volume. |
I have had hit or miss success with mods. a few have been okay, whereas every single mod I've used in Civ5 seems to crash at some some point. free stuff, that doesn't bother me. if I'd paid for it, though? I'd be pretty darn upset
|
It's all speculation at this point, but what I've seen is that Valve is going to take their typical 30%+ cut, which seems asinine. I'm all for the publisher getting a fair amount, but I'm not sure it should be the majority though. They provide the platform, but I don't see it as being much different than games utilizing game engines.
Most modders don't do it for the money anyway, and, while they still have the option, will probably continue to offer them for free. I guess my point is that if someone is going to make money off it, it should be the people who did the work, and not yet another blatant cash grab by Valve. |
|
I followed the lengthy reddit thread on the paid mods topic, and my view on the whole ordeal is that it's still, in theory, not a bad idea. It was a poor implementation though.

That has a good side, for online cheats. The problem will be if it starts being: player gives bad review, player gets banned.

Endless Legend DLC, oh baby!
|
Quote:
A game developer has no real incentive to ban a player playing his game, certainly not when they plan on releasing furth DLC or games (unless i understand this wrongly, a developer can only ban from the specific game where the violation occured, not the steam account. Correct ?) To me this seems very logical and isnt this sth that has been handled similarly on xbox/PS ? Also, isnt this simply going back to how it was handled before steam ? |
If a medieval/fantasy turn-based squad-combat RPG with a Mount and Blade-seque world map sounds like your cup of tea, I heartily recommend Battle Brothers. It feels pretty complete (if a little lacking in content) even as an early access - very few bugs. Insanely high difficulty level, but i'm beginning to learn how to keep my guys alive more often than not. Well, except those darn new recruits, may they frequently rest in pieces...
|
Quote:
I might have to try DOE, but Endless Legend is just a fantastic game, probably my favorite 4x game of all time. (I just started a new game with the DLC that just came out, so I can't comment on that yet). Yes it takes some time to figure out some of it, but it's just so well done, imho. The world feels so alive to me and each race is so unique as well as the minor factions. |

Well, that's a lot better than the Goatse simulator.

Planetary Annihilation is 80% off, so it's $6 - anyone play it, worth it for $6?
