What are you talking about? The SEC has a lot of pre-season games. Heck, sometimes they play them in November.

(Also, every game against Kansas is a pre-season game)

Not a fan, but living in the town kinda simulates that.

Not really anything I recall, nor even heard whispered about.

Money (or access to it) can change things really fast. And let's just be honest: you look as his issues, the problem seems VERY likely to not be money but what he's buying (and consuming) with his money.

Yeah. It's a shame he's gone to throw away his NFL career. Things are likely to only go downhill, too.

Isaiah Wilson was a stand out leader for UGA. No issues were ever made public there. As other suggest, this could be drugs or it is possible other mental issues have developed. Many psychological issues don't manifest till people are in their late 20's.

Trey Lance is predicted to be the first NFL player ever drafted that was born in a year starting in "20xx". Birth date May 9, 2000.

(I was going to say "in the 20th Century" but 2001 was considered the start of the new century)

Carman Bulldog 03-21-2021 02:11 PM

I originally thought there was a chance the Texans could mend things with Watson and hang on to him. I'm not sure that's the case any more with these sexual assault allegations, not to mention the conspiracy theory that the Texans are playing some part in it. Needless to say, I have little faith that this scenario will have a happy ending.

bhlloy 03-21-2021 02:27 PM

If there’s any truth in the allegations he may never play in the league again, let alone for the Texans

GrantDawg 03-21-2021 03:51 PM

It is very possible he never plays again. We will have to see how it plays out, but it doesn't look good for him.

Jets sign Sheldon Rankins from the Saints.

There's a lot of upside here. He's battled ankle issues, but apparently he had some structural abnormality that they corrected the last time they were in there.

So he's a guy with a serious injury history, but unlike a lot of guys with an injury history, there is some reason to think that they figured out what was happening and stopped it.

And, importantly, it is only for two years. So, if the ankle thing turns out to be not fixed, they aren't on the hook for long term money.

High upside potential, and limiting the downside risk. Not very Jets-like.

albionmoonlight 03-23-2021 07:04 PM

So DeShaun Watson is either

(1) A serial sexual predator, or
(2) The target of one of the most far-reaching and well-coordinated smear campaigns in history.

There's no middle ground at this point, right?

And, in either case, this is a huge story. If he didn't do it, then that would be a bigger deal than if he did.

Jack Easterby's rise to power and mismanagement of Houston Texans - Sports Illustrated

I really like Deshaun Watson. This just doesn't seem in character with what we know about him, although I suppose the same could have been said for a guy like Darren Sharper. But as far as far fetched conspiracies go, I wouldn't put it past Jack Easterby and the Texans to concoct something like this.

Vince, Pt. II 03-23-2021 08:45 PM

The numbers are just really hard to ignore regardless of what we "knew" about Watson before.

What do we really know about him though? Where does the information come from? I've never spent a lot a time with him.

I'm not going to say if he's guilty or innocent but how can you judge the character of someone that you probably don't know?

bhlloy 03-23-2021 11:45 PM

Yeah, the Texans are mismanaged and possibly shady but the thought that they can be behind double digit women being willing to lie in a court of law that he exposed himself and/or sexually assaulted them is absolute insane conspiracy theory territory.

At very least, his lawyer has confirmed a sexual encounter with one of them and seems to enjoy private massages way more than the average person does. Innocent until proven guilty but man... I'm with Vince, a few lawsuits you can maybe believe it's a cash grab but in these kind of numbers, it becomes really hard to ignore.

jbergey22 03-24-2021 12:05 AM

Agree! Its so odd how these things stay bottled up and once it opens up, things start spraying everywhere.

It takes me back to the question of why? These athletes can pick and choose any night of the week. Why do they stoop to these levels?

miami_fan 03-26-2021 11:56 AM

Fun fact if true.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, with the signing of Leonard Fournette, the Bucs are the first team in the salary cap era to bring back all 22 starters from their Super Bowl victory,

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:11 PM

Holy shit the 49ers traded up to #3

Coffee Warlord 03-26-2021 12:20 PM

Three first rounders and a third. Yikes.

QuikSand 03-26-2021 12:20 PM

Miami gets 1.12 and the next two 1sts from SF.

I assume Miami now content to go BPA rather than need. I think it looks good in "overall value" but I was really getting super happy with Chase at WR. Now, it's a LB or edge or whatever.

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:21 PM

#3

For

#12
2021 3rd
2022 1st
2023 1st

But...who are they targeting?

Not sure who SF would be targeting, but we have #18 too, and two 2nd rounders, and now 2 3rd rounders, so if they do need to trade back up, we can still get a particular target and will also now have two additional future firsts

Edited as realised Quik wasn’t talking about MIA!

albionmoonlight 03-26-2021 12:26 PM

Miami gonna roll with Tua and just put a hell of a team around him.

I'm ok with that.

Coach [check]
QB [check]
A bunch of good guys on rookie deals [check]

Should be a fun team to watch.

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:26 PM

Seems like that's too much for someone not named Lawrence in this draft. But it wouldn't have been enough to get Lawrence itself, obviously.

Right?

Only makes sense if it is a QB. You know Lawrence is gone at #1. SF has to be really confident that their guy won't go #2. Which seems like a hard thing to be confident of at this point. My sense is that the #2 pick isn't set in stone at this point.

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:29 PM

I think if they stay at #3, "their guy" has to be a non-QB, right? Can't assume a QB slips.

thesloppy 03-26-2021 12:31 PM

Yeah, that seems like a steep price to get third-choice of the QBs.

Unless they like both Fields and Wilson.

AlexB 03-26-2021 12:36 PM

It’s now reported that the 3rd round pick from SF is a 2022 pick

QuikSand 03-26-2021 12:37 PM

Other shoe drops. Philly moves down to 1.12, Miami back up to 1.06 for a 2022 1st and some fluff.

Yesssss.

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:44 PM

Miami being savvy as hell here.

Vince, Pt. II 03-26-2021 12:44 PM

49ers could be making a play for Watson with #3? Seems risky as hell, but...

bhlloy 03-26-2021 12:44 PM

Great deal for the Dolphins, the concept that you would give up on Tua based on a decent but not exceptional rookie year was always completely insane to me.

SF absolutely has to be targeting a QB. To give up all that to get into the top 3 when they probably could have got the choice of their non-QB at 5 or 6 is even more illogical. My guess is they are fine with Fields or Wilson. Jimmy G back to the Patriots?

I just can't see anyone making a Watson play now. There's a chance he's never playing in the league again. Al Davis and Jerry Jones are the only owners with the cojones to make that happen, and I don't know if even they take the chance in todays environment (perfectly rightly so)

AlexB 03-26-2021 12:54 PM

And now Dolphins are back to #6 after a deal with Philly for one of the 1st rounders

albionmoonlight 03-26-2021 12:57 PM

Assuming that 3 (or more) QBs go in the first 5 picks (good assumption, I would think), the Dolphins just got a future first, and will still end up with one of the God WRs or that God T from Oregon.

Well SF has done well with BYU QB's in the past...

QuikSand 03-26-2021 01:11 PM

Sounds like Philly wanted to deal up to get Wilson, "got word" that Wilson's gone at 2, and felt like dealing down made more sense. Miami put the pieces together (clued in by the Eagles' interest in pick 1.3) and, unless you're dead set on a specific player, pretty much cleaned up here. There's a very solid chance they still end up with the exact same player at 1.6 that they would have taken with an untradeable 1.3, but cheaper and with meaningful trimmings tossed in.

If it's QBx4 + OT ahead of them, then they basically get their choice of the "weapons" they presumably had in mind with pick 3. I suspect they are "penciling in" WR Smith which I don't prefer, but doesn't sound awful.

bhlloy 03-26-2021 02:40 PM

If accurate going to be a lot of teams around the league putting 2 and 2 together based on that... assuming Wilson is gone at 2, that makes Darnold available and makes the Falcons pick at #4 insanely valuable for a team that has to have a QB.

A lot of mocks so far have the Panthers trading up for that #3 spot so I guess they might be next team up?

NobodyHere 03-26-2021 02:54 PM

New Orleans Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore arrested in Cleveland, accused of possessing stolen gun - cleveland.com

If true you'd think he'd be able to afford his own gun.

albionmoonlight 03-26-2021 03:18 PM

He looks pretty baked in that mugshot.

Carman Bulldog 03-26-2021 06:17 PM

Kyle Pitts is basically a receiver as well and I wouldn't be shocked if that's the direction the Dolphins go even if all three WRs are still available, and then run a lot of two TE sets. If the Dolphins have little preference between Chase, Waddle, Smith and Pitts, this is a great move. I really can't see Sewell getting past the Bengals, so if Miami wanted an OT, then they probably should have stayed at 3 or down at 12, an area where Slater is projected to go.

Really interesting to see what the 49ers do at the third spot. I agree with what others have said. Word must be out that the Jets are not going to be trading down and 49ers wanted to beat the rush to trade up to that 3 spot. I know there are those that have a higher grade on Trey Lance than they do on Justin Fields. Realistically, there's a possibility that we see QB's go 1-4.

JPhillips 03-26-2021 07:01 PM

WOuldn't shock me to see the Bengals take Chase instead of Sewell. They are going to have at least two of Chase, Pitts, and Sewell to chose from, so they really can't go wrong.

GrantDawg 03-26-2021 07:03 PM

That is popping up a ton, and I just can't see it. Whatevs, though.

molson 03-26-2021 10:27 PM

Jimmy G to the Pats would be so much fun but apparently is SF is willing to keep him for a year, and the Pats no longer have unlimited cap space. I'm sure that's posturing to some degree, but I hope something can be worked out. It is meant to be.

Edit: Also, I don't understand NFL contracts, but apparently cutting Jimmy G this year makes a lot of sense for SF. They'd only have $2.8 million in dead cap space, where if they keep him, obviously he has that massive contract. So maybe that's his clearest path to New England. I don't know where else he would be a starter. There's not a lot of teams he'd be a clear upgrade for. I understand the appeal of having a "veteran" QB when you draft a rookie but, do you really want or need one with a $25 million cap hit?

Douglass hires Pritchett as football coach

Douglass hired alumnus Stanley Pritchett as its football coach Friday.

Pritchett, a former Atlanta Falcons player and most recently coach of Arabia Mountain in DeKalb County, will replace Rodney Cofield, who left to become McDonough’s coach.

Pritchett has been a head coach prior at Washington, North Atlanta and Westlake. He led Arabia Mountain to region titles in 2016 and 2017. He was a 1991 all-state tight end at Douglass but played fullback at South Carolina and then in the NFL from 1996 to 2004.
