Meet the Fockers - 4/10. I expected it to be much funnier.

TazFTW 09-15-2005 11:16 PM

Cabin Fever 4/10

duckman 09-22-2005 10:39 PM

Anchorman

7/10. It had some very funny moments.

Draft Dodger 09-22-2005 10:54 PM

last night: Lost in Translation

not bad, but I can't say it really moved me. I'd give it a 7.

ThunderingHERD 09-22-2005 11:02 PM

I was severely disappointed by Lost in Translation.

TazFTW 09-22-2005 11:06 PM

The Grudge 4/10.

I wonder if the original japanese version is any better.

Draft Dodger 09-23-2005 12:57 AM

Just finished Butterfly Effect, which was decenter than I thought. 7/10

but here's my issue: I just had the director's cut (via Netflix) and from what I understand, the ending was different. I would love to know what the original ending was...

ThunderingHERD 09-23-2005 01:00 AM

I hated the Butterfly Effect. A fetid load of psuedo-intelectual misery porn for disaffected youths.

The Untouchables (1987) 8.9/10

kingfc22 09-23-2005 03:02 AM

Last week: American Wedding 7/10

Got some good laughs out of this one. Especially, the part where Jim brings over his soon to be in-laws and they are having a bachelor party at the same time. LOL, laughing just thinking about it. :D

SnowMan 09-23-2005 04:10 AM

Wedding Crashers, 9/10, was friggen hilarious

Havok 09-23-2005 05:14 AM

Matchstick Men
8/10

very good flick and the ending really threw a curve at me. I, unlike so many people on this board, actually like Nicholas Cage :)

korme 09-27-2005 10:35 AM

Blow - 8.5/10 - Good film

oliegirl 09-27-2005 10:41 AM

 As a man with 4 or 5 pairs of Spongebob boxers, I am appalled someone could not like this movie. Oh wait....I'm like a 6 year old, I forgot. :p

Anyways, the movies we went to see Saturday night....

Corpse Bride - 8/10

Flightplan - 5/10

korme 09-27-2005 12:27 PM

Ah, I wanna see Corpse Bride.

mauchow 09-27-2005 12:54 PM

And for probably the first time ever, I can honestly say I haven't watched any of the top 10 money movies at the moment.

1. No intention of seeing Flightplan until it becomes an MVP at Hollywood Video.
2. Corpse Bride - I want to see this, but I haven't decided when.... Hmm...
3. Just Like Heaven - Thank goodness my girlfriend doesn't want to see it yet. We'll prolly wait until DVD.
4. Roll Bounce - No thanks.
5. Exorcism of Emily Rose - Maybe on DVD
6. Lord of War - Ehh, prolly on DVD
7. 40 year old Virgin, I'll be seeing this at the dollar theatre for sure, then again on DVD most likely.
8. The Constant Gardner - DVD
9. Transporter 2 - DVD
10. Cry Wolf - Probably not.

AlexB 09-27-2005 01:13 PM

Watched the Bourne Supremacy the other night: undemanding action flick that is a perfectly passable way of spending two hours. 7/10.

Desnudo 09-27-2005 02:15 PM

The Jerk on DVD. 10/10

rkmsuf 09-27-2005 02:18 PM

It's a profit deal!

QuikSand 09-28-2005 12:22 PM

Transporter 2

If you take the movie completely at face value... 4/10

If you are able to find unintentional (?) comedy in absurd stunts and caricatured acting... 7/10

johnnyshaka 09-28-2005 12:24 PM

Madagascar...pretty funny...the Penguins take the cake. A little more geared towards kids than other animated flicks.

chinaski 09-28-2005 12:29 PM

Watched "Talk to Her" by Pedro Almodovar. Ill give it a 7/10. Its crazy, really too hard to explain. Its basically about two guys who lose the loves of their lives to comas, but its way more than _just_ that. superb acting and direction.

I give that movie a 3/10.

It had potential, but why'd it have to be so 'out there'. It was just too much.

moriarty 09-28-2005 03:55 PM

I have "Layer Cake" sitting on top of my DVD player. Anyone seen this yet? Is it worth a Friday night viewing?

RebelMan 09-28-2005 07:25 PM

Beyond The Sea 9/10

Excellent acting by Kevin Spacey.

Its average. They pimp it as "from the producer of lock stock..." but thats about it. Its not a Guy Ritchie movie (the guy who actually did lock stock and snatch), but like one of his lackeys. Its a ganstah tale, but a pretty mundane one at that. It could probably hold your interest, but the lead wasn't nearly as engaging and there really wasn't an ensemble to speak of. And no Jason Statham. But there is Sienna Miller in very, very little clothing, so its not a complete waste.

4/10.

Lorena 09-28-2005 07:35 PM

Hotel Rwanda 9/10... this movie haunted me like nothing I've seen since Schindler's List. Don Cheadle was riveting and the gal that played his wife was SOO good! Anyone know who she is?

Easy Mac 09-28-2005 07:39 PM

Monster-in-law... it caused me to have a panic attack... at least that's my theory. god it was awful.

2/10

Joe Canadian 09-28-2005 09:37 PM

Cinema: Four Borthers - 6.5/10

DVD: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 9/10

I just purchased Adaptation & Million Dollar Baby, so they'll be next. I've also got disks 3-5 of Deadwood on their way from Zip.ca!

I liked Saw ... perhaps because I knew absolutely nothing about it going in and was pleasantly suprised. Although the ending was kind of overly done. I think they're making Saw2 alrealdy.

Bad-example 09-29-2005 11:32 AM

What the (Bleep) Do We Know?

I found this movie to be absolutely unique. It combines animation, live action and documentary to explain the basics of quantum physics.

4/10.

Finally got around to watching it, and I apparently liked it more than you did.
I give Layer Cake a 6.5.

I think it helped that I wasn't expecting a Guy Ritchie movie coming in. The plot is a bit convoluted (and questionable at times), but I like the genre and like the movie. Not real sure about the ending though.

BTW Sienna Miller was a nice treat. Who is this girl, and where may I have seen her before (more importantly where can i see her again?).

purplepee 10-03-2005 04:16 PM

Funny Games- 9/10
Its um...very fun. I've seen this film many times, but I like to watch it at least once a year. Its a german/austrian film made in 1998 and directed by michael haneke. I showed this film to my girlfriend when we first started dating. She told me I was lucky this wasnt the first movie I showed her or she never would have kept seeing me. Its pretty disturbing.

TazFTW 10-21-2005 06:34 PM

Batman Begins 8/10
Infernal Affairs 8/10

terpkristin 10-21-2005 06:41 PM

Serenity 2/10

Plot was see-through and I had predicted the upshot of the movie within 15 minutes of the start. Tongue-in-cheek humor was overdone and WAY too much flash & trash fighting to make up for lack of plot.

BIGGEST WASTE OF $10 THIS YEAR.

Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit 6.5/10
It wasn't bad. I think my expectations might have been a bit high.

Pyser 10-21-2005 06:53 PM

harold and maude 11/10

i forgot just how mindblowingly amazing this movie is. you can see a lot of movies that ripped this one off in theme, tone, soundtrack (im looking at you, wes anderson!)

top 3 ever for me. man, what a movie.

timmynausea 10-21-2005 09:32 PM

Suspiria 6.5/10 - I liked the score and imagery, but the acting was awful, and the story basically sucked. For its time, it was definitely good, though.

Who cares about acting in a Argento fick?!? He's all about style, colors, visceral fear, etc. Then again, I'm an Argento junkie.

The last movie I watch (watching for the 8th time) is "What's up, Tiger Lilly?". A lot of people, including my wife, think this movie sucks, but I laugh until I cry every time. :)

9/10

This is possibly the best foreign film I've ever seen. Or maybe second to Amelie, but still way up there. Highly recommended by me.

timmynausea 10-22-2005 08:10 AM

Copycat - 5/10
This one was on tv last night. It was kind of a lame, cliched semi-rip-off of Silence of the Lambs, and it seems even more silly considering Seven came out the same year, covering a lot of the same material, and blowing this one away. A decent cast keeps it from fully slipping into suck.

Dekanth 10-22-2005 08:38 AM

Batman Begins, 7/10.

Rasmuth 10-22-2005 08:57 AM

October Sky - 9 of 10

Draft Dodger 10-22-2005 09:45 AM

I just watched Shanghai Noon. 3/10
way, way, way worse than I thought it would be. Whatever Wilson idiot was in that makes Keanu Reeves look DeNiro.

moriarty 10-22-2005 10:09 AM

I really liked Batman begins 8.5/10. As a stand alone movie, it probably doesn't rate that high, but compared with the earlier Batman crap films it gets an extra bonus point or two.
