Oregon officially hires Cristobal.

Insanity.

No, people in Knoxville like Tee Martin. He does not need to be forgiven for anything.

Is it? Cristobal got a raw deal at FIU.

That said, I think the problem with this hire is he has no roots there, and if he does well, he's likely to jump at an offer from a big program back east.

We disagree. I don't think he was EVER fully embraced for the reason I stated.

Folks like Martin, I agree with you. They don't love Martin the way you'd expect a championship winning QB to be loved.

The Razorback forum/board is warming up to him.

PilotMan 12-09-2017 01:51 PM

Defending FCS Champion James Madison nearly needed a miracle to win last night. Meanwhile, NDSU plowed Wofford today to move on to the semi finals.

Looking forward to the South Dakota State/New Hampshire game in South Dakota next. Winner plays JM.

The Bison will most likely face Sam Houston next week in the semis. A game they should win to seal another trip to Frisco. Then I'd love to see JMU/SDSU in the other semi.

digamma 12-09-2017 05:26 PM

Five total possessions in the second half of the Army-Navy game. And not boring in the least. Sing second, Army!

tarcone 12-09-2017 11:44 PM

That Army-Navy game was a great one.

Lots of good stuff there.

My thoughts exactly...

UT could owe Schiano 20M? Wtf

Question for the board - what awards do you find more worthwhile? Those voted on by coaches in a conference? By fellow players in a conference? Or those voted on by national sportswriters?

Coaches. Because they just should know more about the players than anyone else. They hopefully scouted them and gameplanned against them and should have been paying attention.

I agree with this.

And they watch film extensively. They know the players from other teams inside and out.

But only the teams they play.

Aren’t they also getting some insight on the opposing teams on the film they watch? Washington didn’t play USC this season, but they would have seen them on film at least a few times when scouting other teams on their schedule that had played the Trojans.

But thats not how they are looking at it.
When a coach gets a film cut, typically it will be 1/2 on schedule. 3rd long 3rd short. And its typically an all 11. They are looking for an evaluation of formations/flow/weaknesses.

Even then, the one filling out those nominations is usually the SID and the HC may or may not even know what the SID writes on the ballot.

In fact many head coaches in college today arent even involved in the film review anymore.

Troy -7 (EVEN)
Georgia State +7 (-105)
Boise State +7.5 (-110)
Marshall +3.5 (-110)
Arkansas State -3.5 (-110)

Parlay

We'll see how it goes.

PilotMan 12-16-2017 08:35 PM

For those of you interested in the FCS.

It's all come down to the top 2 teams in the nation. NDSU destroyed Sam Houston State, while defending Champ James Madison forced 7 turnovers en route to a complete wipeout of South Dakota State.

James Madison beat NDSU last year, ending our 5 straight championship run, and went on to win the whole thing. So either they win and repeat as FCS champs or NDSU brings the trophy back to North Dakota for the 6th time in 7 years.

January 6.

The break means that lots can change. Hot teams cool off, both teams are hot right now. Gotta lean toward #1 JM as the favs, but NDSU isn't giving up much.

CrescentMoonie 12-19-2017 06:23 PM

Akron +23.5
Louisiana Tech +4

A lot of upset fan bases because of Carmen

CU Tiger 12-20-2017 12:13 PM

Really didnt think there was much shot at Carman, primarily because his mother Loved Clemson.

The whole reason he was leaving Ohio is he wanted to be a rebel, he likes going against the grain and shocking people. That's why Clemson thought they had a chance after his U-OV. Then momma came along on his OV and fell in love. But the more you heard from folks around him the more scared you got. That momma liked Clemson might be the death knell in their chances.

Clemson coaches didnt know until about 10AM this morning that he was coming.

Just Bovada.

MrBug708 12-23-2017 03:54 PM

Josh Rosen, the likely first overall pick, will sit out the Cactus Bowl

Young Drachma 12-23-2017 04:07 PM

Shout out to Wyoming with the bowl win in Boise yesterday.

No wonder I can't bet the Cactus Bowl. Bovada still has it locked because Cutler 2.0 isn't playing.

South Carolina is going go get shut down by Michigan.
Looks at their splits against top 50 defenses.

Michigan was 0-4 against teams over .500. Their defense gave up 73 points in the two games against Terrible 14 teams to score over 300 points on the season. Their 3 non conference opponents scored 168 (Florida), 169 (Cincinnati), and 257 (Air Force) points on the season.

South Carolina isn't great, but they played in a much better conference and should win outright.

Agree! A good comparison would be the Florida game in which Michigan just completely shut down that offense. Like 24-7 final this game should end up.

I know Michigan isn't great, I agree.
But SC plays in the SECE.
Half the teams they played fired their coach this year. When they played teams with a pulse they couldn't move the ball.

I expect this game to be 24-7 ish.

tarcone 12-27-2017 07:46 PM

Iowa with the big win. We dominated the 2nd half.

Field was atrocious. It was literally a skating rink.

I can't imagine either team scoring 24. I'm expecting what MSU-Michigan looked like and the SEC East was better than either side of the B1G this year.

lungs 12-27-2017 09:16 PM

That fake kneel down by Purdue was pretty sweet.

JPhillips 12-27-2017 09:59 PM

That could not have been executed more perfectly.

The B1G is 2-0 ATS and overall thus far. Hopefully, you didnt get all crazy on your anti-B1G wagers.

PS The B1G East is better than the SEC East this year. Not even a debate unless Georgia wins it all.

cartman 12-27-2017 11:41 PM

Nice win for the Longhorns. In a strange, but very deserving move, the Texas punter was named the MVP of the game. 10 of his 11 punts were inside the 20, with a good chunk those inside the 5.

He was amazing. Made it difficult for Mizzou to get momentum on offense and put the defense in nice situations.

MrBug708 12-28-2017 01:17 PM

Really wishing we had some more talk about the Missouri-Texas "drama". The Mizzou fans are pretty upset, I thought it was funny and refreshing to see personality on the sidelines.

I thought it was pretty funny myself. I was embarrassed when Lock (our QB that Hermann was mocking) did it after throwing one TD after numerous 3 and outs. On the flip side in the society we live in today I would think this will hurt Hermann ("so unprofessional etc") more than it will help.

Yeah that guy was incredible. The thing is before last night our punter had been pretty solid himself all season but your punter just kept getting it inside the 5 and your coverage guys were actually catching them instead of the usual off their hands into the endzone for a touchback.

cartman 12-28-2017 03:48 PM

Navy took Virginia out behind the woodshed. Their QB ran for 5 touchdowns. 76 running plays, and only one pass play called for the Midshipmen.

Apparently the refs told the Arizona players to take it easy on the kneeldowns to just finish out the half. If so, kinda lame to run a fake play like that, but what can you do?

Yeah, that is kind of lame. If teams are going to be running fake kneel downs, don't get upset when some d-lineman goes all out on an actual kneel down.
