High Tension 6/10 but scary as hell, and gory

chinaski 10-22-2005 12:26 PM

The 40 Year Old Virgin - I think i was expecting waaaay too much, 6/10.

Draft Dodger 10-24-2005 12:08 AM

Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle 7/10

way better than I expected, with many LOL parts (and a few lame parts). some great lines..."shotgun anus" probably being my favorite.

sabotai 10-24-2005 12:30 AM

Theater: Serenity - 8.5/10

Rental: Susperia. 6/10. I guess I just don't "get" Argento, but decent horror movie anyway.

Great bit part by Doogie Howser as well.

I saw 'The longest yard' remake and give it 5/10. Almost all of the funny moments were shown on previews (guess that's what you get for waiting on Netflix) but it was harmless enough entertainment. I thought Michael Irvin actually did a decent job, but it's just so hard to take him seriously.

timmynausea 10-24-2005 09:15 AM

Alien - 9/10 - I hadn't watched this one since I was a kid.

Aliens - 6/10 - I'd never watched this one before. I had always heard that it was better than the original. It wasn't. Basically, the first half starts out decent, but as it goes along it becomes a standard action movie. It seemed really cliched, but I think this might be the movie that started all the action movie cliches. I was pretty disappointed.

The Dead Zone - 9/10 - This is probably my favorite Stephen King adaptation.

Sublime 2 10-24-2005 10:47 PM

A History of Violence - 8.5/10

I really liked this movie! Odd sex scene...overall lots of graphic content and a solid movie!

LoneStarGirl 10-24-2005 10:52 PM

I watched 'Taking Lives' with Angelina Jolie 7.5/10 but with a GREAT sex scene

Watching Million Dollar Baby right now, soo far its great, 9/10, but it still has an hour left.

Tomorrow we are watching Family guy movie, and Anchorman

You paused the movie with an hour left to post a rating on a website

BTW - Angelina Jolie + great sex scene == moving to top of Netflix list.

You will not be dissapointed.

Lorena 11-12-2005 09:37 PM

We've seen a few movies these past few days:

The Ring 2 - 6/10
The Longest Yard - 9.0/10
The Amityville Horror - 7/10
Batman Begins - 9.0/10

Schmidty 11-12-2005 09:55 PM

"High Noon" - 10/10

Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, well-written, well-acted, old fashioned heroes and villains. What more could you want?

It also has an actress who I consider to be one of the most exotically beautiful women I've ever seen - Katy Jurado:

Karlifornia 11-12-2005 09:57 PM

A History Of Violence-7.5/10...Good fight scenes/gore. I thought both of the sex scenes were strange

Oh yeah, I forgot about this one. I give it the same score - 7.5

I didn't get the sex scene on the stairs either.

Easy Mac 11-12-2005 10:14 PM

Comedian - It was fairly insightful but otherwise pretty boring, and the Adams kid was annoying. 4.2

The Longest Yard (remake) - Never seen the original, I know blasphemy. It wasn't a horrible movie. Had some funny bits, kind of like a poor man's Replacements. Nothing that gave me guffaws. 5.2.

sabotai 11-12-2005 10:17 PM

DVD: The Devil's Rejects - 7.5/10. Thought it was better that House of 1000 Corpses.

Movies: Jarhead 8/10. Very good movie. Not a lot of action, more of about interaction between soldiers and them dealing with training and isolation in the middle fo a desert, plus a lot of comedy in it too. Very good movie IMO.

kiwiLB57 11-13-2005 03:28 AM

Last two movies I saw were "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and "Serenity"

KKBB has a rather chubby Val Kilmer and a whacked out looking Robert Downey Jr. 8/10. I had heard nothing about this film going into it so it turned into a nice surprise.

Serenity was another nice suprise. Got dragged to it by a couple of friends from Minnesota who are nuts on the TV series (which name alludes me as I have not seen it).

ThunderingHERD 11-13-2005 03:35 AM

Crimes & Misdemeanors - 9.5/10

duckman 11-20-2005 10:09 AM

The Aviator - 8/10

JonInMiddleGA 11-20-2005 10:44 AM

Saw Chicken Little last night.

Genre considered, I'd give it 7/10.

Airhog 11-20-2005 10:45 AM

The girl next door - 7/10 Not spectacular, but a few moments had me laughing. Nice plot twists as well.

Sideways - 9/10 Loved this movie. Great acting, was a damn good movie.

Racing Stripes - 6/10 Not a bad movie at all. More of a kids movie, but the voice acting for the animals was well done.

Meet the fockers - 7/10 I think this sequel was pretty good. Not spectacular though. I do enjoy watching Dustin hoffman though.

moriarty 11-20-2005 11:50 AM

Just saw:

Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy: 4/10 I didnt' read the books, so maybe I didn't enjoy this as much as others.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: 5/10 Someone mentioned to me before I saw it that Depp was acting like Michael Jackson. Unfortunately I couldn't get past this thought as Depp did act very 'femine' throughout, and I kept expecting him to touch the little boys. Yikes.

Anthony 11-20-2005 12:08 PM

Walk the Line - 9/10. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor. great singer too.

Lorena 11-20-2005 12:14 PM

Team America: World Police - 9/10

Jesus titty fucking Christ, this movie was awesome!! It was politically incorrect, crude, twisted, but what do you expect from the makers of South Park?

Tekneek 11-20-2005 12:17 PM

Re-Animator : Hard to rate... 3/10, I suppose.

cthomer5000 11-20-2005 12:36 PM

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe

7/10

Have you read any of the books, ct? What kept the movie from being better in your view?

I've read the first 3 books, and re-read this one just a few months ago, so i was quite familiar with it going in.

I felt there needed to be a bit more of a realistic sense of fear from the kids in the movie... it just seemed like they hardly grasped the seriousness of what they were being faced with, while i felt that was a bit more present in the book. Then just some minor technical gripes here and there. It was just a tad too clean for my tastes, but worth seeing i would say.

terpkristin 11-20-2005 12:53 PM

Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire: 9/10.

Having read the books, I could easily identify things that they either removed or changed to make the movie flow a little better. Some of the things I think were important, though, so that's really the only reason I'm knocking it down. It was otherwise great, Finnes was awesome as Voldemort, and I look forward to seeing it again over turkey day weekend. :)

Theatre: Saw II, good little flick, like the first. I could see a massive like 10 part series like Halloween here. 8/10 for what it is.

Rental: Sleepers. 7/10, good movie.

Re-Animator is probably a 9/10 for me.

Dunleavy 11-26-2005 08:27 PM

Princess Mononoke
8 /10

Action & Adventure, Animation, Foreign

multi-layer with message, every side gets a point of view. it's an japanese animation so the story line is out there but a good movie, and thanks to a 20 mill budget they a great job visually

Cringer 11-27-2005 12:48 AM

In the theater... Just Friends. For the category it falls into I would say an 8/10. It is pretty damn funny, atleast to me. Nothing raunchy really in the movie as far as the gags go, which I thought might have been the case going in. Some funny stuff though, it had me in tears at one point which surprised me.

cthomer5000 12-08-2005 10:47 PM

Layer Cake... 7/10

Very well shot, and a solid performance by Daniel Craig. Though I don't care about the James Bond franchise, I felt he would do the role justice after seeing this movie.

And Sienna Miller... my oh my.

Draft Dodger 12-09-2005 08:06 AM

Collateral 7/10

not horrible, not great. about what I expected, I guess.

I think it's a serious contender for best movie ever made.

We watched Infernal Affairs, which was regrettably dubbed rather than subtitled, but pretty good nonetheless. I had heard really good things, and was slightly disappoitned, but the plot idea is very compelling -- Hong Kong underworld and police each have a "mole" planted on the other side, and they are both essentially racing to figure out who is the other side's mole first, to save themselves.

From the imdb link, I see that this is on its way to being remade/butchered by Hollywood... but I am buoyed by the names Scorcese, DiCaprio, and Damon being attached, so perhaps there's hope for this one to turn out well.

Anyway, the original gets 7/10 for me... might have gone a tick higher with subtitles.

Grammaticus 12-09-2005 08:44 AM

I just watched "Vlad" last night. I'll give it a 3 out of 10.

It was a real stinker. It has a bunch of college students from our current time visit transylvania for background on research papers. Of course they run into Vlad and there is a fight over an ancient piece of jewelry. It turned out to be really silly and of B grade quality.

Lorena 12-09-2005 05:22 PM

Coach Carter - 8/10

korme 12-09-2005 05:45 PM

In the past few days I've been murdering movies I had never seen before, crappiest to best:

Out Cold
TomCats
Raging Bull (great reviews, but so boring to me)
Without A Paddle
Monster
Stand By Me
A Clockwork Orange - love it

korme 12-22-2005 12:56 AM

Barry Lyndon - 5/10: A few good parts, but Kubrick sure does know how to drag out his movies.

Can't believe it took me so long to see Vanilla Sky - 8/10, though. Man, what a great film, I can't believe people were so on the fence about it.

The concept is great.. spoiler:

Given the choice, would you rather live a dream (with consequences) for eternity or deal with a normal life and mortality?

thesloppy 12-22-2005 01:21 AM

Northfork - Shit Sandwich.

Karlifornia 12-22-2005 02:25 AM

Puddle Cruiser-5.5

Broken Lizard has put out one in the "shitty to average" range (Club Dread) one in the "average" range "Puddler Cruiser" and one in the "well above average" range (Super Troopers).

korme 12-22-2005 03:14 AM

Just watched Adaptation with Nic Cage. I can't decide how to grade it. It was at times funny, introspective, and never boring, but at the same time I can't figure out why I feel underwhelmed. I don't know. 6.5/10

MrBug708 12-22-2005 03:17 AM

So I finally got around to watching Fight Club

Lame. Ass. Movie.

Adaptation is awesome. It loses a lot of people in the last third, but that is kind of the point as Donald starts helping Charlie write the script so all the movie cliches come in (drugs, guns, chase scene, happy ending). The end kind of works better conceptually than it does within the context of the story, but I still really like that movie. It's among my favorites.

I loved it and I hated it. It was the best and the worst. Meryl Steep is a dirty whore.

Are you kidding? Fight Club is amazing. So many great one-liners.

Saw "Constant Gardener" the other day... wow.. 9/10

Intelligent, thrilling, interesting and great photography.

I recommend it to everyone.. Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz
