I mentioned this before in the thread but if you like these games keep in mind the ones available one Steam are a small segment of their total games. I have enjoined Choice of the Deathless and the Heroes Rise trilogy (though these are more stat driven than some of the others.)

Just FYI, The Wolf Among Us is $6.24 for the next few hours. It was one of my 5 "buy this on Steam Sale" games.

Peregrine 12-22-2014 06:20 AM

Also $5 Skyrim is hard to pass up if you've never played it.

If someone hasn't played it by now, they should be bitch-slapped. Skyrim is probably the best game of the last decade.

Draft Dodger 12-22-2014 06:46 AM

I still haven't played it and still haven't bought it. I've been intending it to be saved until I get my next machine...which I never seem to get around to building

Draft Dodger 12-22-2014 06:48 AM

I did, however, purchase Prison Architect despite my strict no Early Access mantra.

and, yeah, I put in 10 hours into it this weekend. very addictive

If your machine won't run it, I understand - but your machine must be REALLY old. You are missing an incredible gaming experience and this is from someone who has never liked any of the Elder Scrolls games.

+1

Draft Dodger 12-22-2014 08:24 AM

oh I think it will run it. I just wanted to have that be the one to save for the new machine. Since that doesn't seem to be happening, I'll probably grab it

The DLC is quite good too and there are TONS of mods out there.

Draft Dodger 12-22-2014 08:55 AM

ok, I no longer am the only person in the world to not own Skyrim.

of course, I have no idea when I'll ever play it...

Put me in that list, and I have all the expansions too. {hangs head}

MrBug708 12-22-2014 09:27 AM

Never played it either

Glengoyne 12-22-2014 09:30 AM

Panzer Corps, the "spiritual successor" to Panzer General of old is on sale for $6.79. The publisher, Slitherine, rarely participates in the Steam Sales, so this is likely the best price you'll see on this one for some time.

Booya

Dutch 12-22-2014 09:40 AM

It's a good engine, but I didn't like the turn limits on scenarios. Seemed like it forced me to take chances with units I never felt comfortable with. But if you like games like that, its a good one for sure.

larrymcg421 12-22-2014 10:08 AM

Anyone played 7 Days to Die?

Blackadar 12-22-2014 12:57 PM

Endless Legend is one of the Steam specials today.

Go buy it now.

That was sort of the point of the original too. I always roleplayed in my head that I only had a certain amount of time to achieve the objective due to linkage to other objectives that I didn't have visibility on as a local commander.

DaddyTorgo 12-22-2014 01:08 PM

Papers Please is down to $2.49...

MrBug708 12-22-2014 01:16 PM

Has anyone played that new GoT game?

Got it. Thanks for the heads up!

whomario 12-22-2014 01:27 PM

I ended up buying EU IV, getting the Base Game along with Conquest of Paradise as well as Wealth of Nations for 16 € compared to 23 for the all-everything pack. (the newest pack was not included anyway)

I also bought Hour of Darkness for 2 Bucks.

My Budget is 45 this sale (from stuff sold on ebay), so i still have a little left :D

Ah, okay, never played the original (I was probably too busy playing Steel Panthers or something then) so it's probably a great spiritual successor.

I was hoping it would creep down to $15, but I'm going to pick it up anyway

NeonChaos: holy shit. i just finished FTL. for the first time. in two years.
NeonChaos: sorry. i had to tell someone
NeonChaos: :D

Draft Dodger 12-22-2014 03:56 PM

I think the one time I finished FTL, I blew up the enemy literally seconds before they blew me up. the credits rolled as my ship debris dispersed into space

Does anyone have both Prison Architect and The Escapists? Which one is better?

Looks like Prison Architect is about building a prison while The Escapists is about breaking out of prison. Is that about it, in a nutshell?

I own both (big surprise!).

These are two very, very different games with a similar setting. Asking which is better is like asking if steak or pizza is better. They're both foods, but the similarities end there.

Prison architect is a building game, making and managing your prison including different types of prisoners, snitches, etc. You control no one - you build your ant farm and watch/influences what happens.

The Escapists is a retro-looking game where you control your avatar to try to bust out of prison. You craft items, build up your character, run basic missions and try to bust out one way or another.

Personally, I prefer Prison Architect because I would rather build and create. The Escapists seems cute, but I'm waiting for the full release on it whereas I've played PA for about 40 hours now.

FYI, if you're looking at builder-type games, don't forget to watch out for Banished. The game was awesome anyway, but the new Colonial Charter mod basically doubles the supply chains.

rjolley 12-22-2014 06:47 PM

Thanks for the info, BA. I own PA, but haven't had a chance to play it. I think I'll do that over this break. I saw Escapists on sale and thought I'd check it out. I'll probably wait on it.

I will pull the trigger on Banished...soon. What about Craft the World? Tried that?

Groundhog 12-22-2014 07:05 PM

Prison Architect is a lot of fun, but does have a few annoying little bugs. I've had a dead guy in an iso cell now for going on a week, with an empty morgue, and some cctv cameras just will not work, even if they are the only camera hooked up to a cctv station. Still, I must have clocked around 40+ hours by now, so I am enjoying it despite the odd quirk.

Yup, backed it in Early Access last Christmas. Also a very good game - it's a builder, but more of a simple and cartoony one. I prefer Terraria's direct control over the limited control over the dwarves in CtW, but it's really kind of neat. Anything in particular you want to know about it?

Radii 12-22-2014 07:06 PM

Bought Endless Legend and Wolf Among Us based on the hype here. Walking Dead Season 2 hit 75% off today too, so I picked that up.

You chose wisely.

rjolley 12-22-2014 07:08 PM

No, nothing in particular. Thinking about picking it up when it goes below $10 again and wondered if it was any fun.

I have Terraria and haven't cracked it open either. Man, I need to stop buying and start playing...

Thanks for the heads-up! I already have AOW III but was waiting for a great deal on the expansion! :)

Lonnie 12-24-2014 12:30 PM

Talisman seems hard to pass up at $1.49 for a board game lover. Anyone have any thoughts on it?

CleBrownsfan 12-24-2014 01:30 PM

I'm not a fan of Talisman the board game but the port over is very well implemented.

Does it do anything to improve city/civ building? That was the element I felt was weak in vanilla.

A little bit.. you can read a good review here:

Age of Wonders 3: Golden Realms Review - SpaceSector.com

It's still a tactical battle game at the heart and soul of it though.

flere-imsaho 12-25-2014 10:07 AM

I have never, ever been able to play an RTS effectively. I put it down to being OCD and wanting to lay everything out perfectly, get all the upgrades, etc....

I think that's why I liked Banished so much. :D

Best PC Game 2014: Endless Legend | Rock, Paper, Shotgun

Endless Legend is Rock, Paper, Shotgun's Bestest Best Game of the Year. I should probably get around to playing it soon.

FM is 33% off right now for anybody interested.

Uh oh

Vince, Pt. II 12-25-2014 02:09 PM

I purchased Endless Legend but haven't had time to play it yet. My roommate, who has an extremely high bar for games to clear, fired it up last night while I was wrapping my family's presents. I was an hour late to dinner because he kept exclaiming with glee in the back room about some cool feature he found that he loves, so I went back to check it out each time. The game looks fantastic, and he's really enjoying it. And he was extraordinarily skeptical at first and is very hard to please when it comes to video games.

One of the best 4x games or games in general I've ever played.
