Ended up buying FM15, Divinity: Original Sin, and Skyrim. Luckily, I received a good chunk-o-change via Steam gift cards.

No idea how I will ever play all the games I have bought since Black Friday.

Capital 12-25-2014 07:18 PM

Anyone play Wasteland 2 - waiting for it to hit the big sales?

With those 3, you may not need another game until the next Black Friday.

Thanks for the link - it was a good read. Just curious what is your opinion on the new seals victory mechanic? That is actually somewhat intriguing.

I've put both the DLC and expansion on my wish list and will probably pick both up later on over break.

Abe Sargent 12-25-2014 08:29 PM

Meh, never impressed by Skyrim, overrated, and not that great. Got three hours in, after coveting the awesome that is Morrowind and then and then being disappointed by how weak Oblivion was, then after 3 hours of sSkyrim, said, nope, this is not that good of a game and set it down. In my opinion they went downhill so quickly. Like, Might and Magic quickly (from the amazing VI to the merely adequate VII to the awful VIII).

jeff061 12-25-2014 08:40 PM

While I can see that description being applied to Oblivion. Skyrim is most certainly not overrated.

Vince, Pt. II 12-25-2014 08:49 PM

I have to say, I hated every single Elder Scrolls game they ever released. I bought almost every single one of them, because I WANTED to like them all so much. They just never did it for me. Finally about 6 months ago I caved on Skyrim, installed a bunch of recommended mods (better textures, etc, nothing really game changing) and ended up putting about 40 hours in before tiring of it. It was very well done, and I enjoyed it. I don't know about a lot of the 'best game ever' talk that it gets, and it may still be overrated, but it was quite a good game.

Not fully sure yet.. it definitely makes the game faster if you want to win in that fashion rather than holding back while you build up your army. Going after the seals ASAP changes the game in what I think it is a good way.. or at least a different way to strategize.

Unfortunately, I missed this. Any chance it'll go for one more big dip before the end of the sale?

Possibly on the last day of the sale. Steam always does a repeat of the "greatest hits" portion of the sale and EL is new enough to have a chance to be back on the front page during that day.

---

I'm conflicted, two of my wishlist games are on sale.

Train Fever is up for the daily sale. I've been jonesing for this ever since release but the reviews are, sad to say, mixed. It sounds like there are some annoying aspects in the game in terms of track laying, there are only three manufacturing chains in the game, etc. Yet every video I've watched has me drooling for it. But I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger at $20.

The other is Dominions IV. The Dom series is supposed to be a pretty fantastic 4x game but is hard to learn and has bad AI. They say it shines most brightly in multiplayer of which I have no interest. Still, it's a 4x game and that's pretty much my bread-and-butter...and it's under $10.

Oh, decisions, decisions...

I've been playing a lot of Dom 4 lately. I can't say it's a hugeupgrade over Dom 3 but it does have some new twists (thrones of ascension, I think). My only complaint is late-game micromanagement. I'd love some way to route recruited units along a path to a collection province.

I've never played any of the Dom series, so it's new to me.

Warhammer 12-26-2014 11:09 AM

Dominions is some of the best MP gaming I have ever done. Great game and tons of options. That said, the AI is just a stepping stone to MP play. The MP play is pbem essentially, so it is you don't have to worry about ragers, etc.

larrymcg421 12-26-2014 11:09 AM

I pulled the trigger on The Secret World at $10.19

Buccaneer 12-26-2014 11:16 AM

I can see Endless Legend being a civ-like game but so is Beyond Earth and neither has the theme (fantasy or scifi) that is interesting to me. Then again, I have also stopped playing Civ after 16 years.

Good call. I think it is the best MMO running right now...I really don't know what the hell I am doing other than killing zombies right now, but that in itself is pretty awesome!

Thomkal 12-26-2014 12:40 PM

Banished at 60% off, and Shadow of Mordor at 40% could be good deals from today's sale.

I know I'm beating the same drum as a lot of people here, but Endless Legend is pretty great. Been playing it a bit the last two days and I'm really, really enjoying it. Some new takes on tried and true 4x tropes, and they keep enough of the structure there that it doesn't feel alien. I like the idea of my civilization having a bit of a story that I am not building all on my own.

Oh, then I think it would be worth your $10. The AI is not super strong but the random scenario setup can put you in a challenging position if you feel you're taking advantage of the AI.

I like that there is no subscription fee (a must for any MMO I play) and the open skill system sounds cool.

Anyone play Starpoint Gemini 2? Or any game in the series? It's on sale today and it looks interesting.

Abe Sargent 12-27-2014 12:27 PM

Tropico 5 at 65% off is doable. If you may recall, I played it upon release, and talked about some of its issues, but 13.99 is worth it to my mind.

Dutch 12-27-2014 01:17 PM

I remember and was waiting for this sort of sale to pull the trigger. :)

Vince, Pt. II 12-27-2014 02:06 PM

Roommate has been raving about the second Shadowrun campaign, and it's on sale today.

Matthean 12-27-2014 02:15 PM

I swear a large number of times when this gets bumped I think you guys are talking about the board game.

Matthean 12-27-2014 02:19 PM

Also, The Long Dark, which has a 95% positive reviews, is 50% off.

This game has intrigued me - has anybody played it?

Matthean 12-27-2014 02:24 PM

Here's a 24+ minutes gameplay of it.

Abe Sargent 12-27-2014 03:18 PM

I make it a rule to stay clear of Early Access games now, which The Long Dark is.

Picked it up. I've had an eye on it for awhile and I doubt it gets cheaper than this anytime soon.

Pisses me off to no end that it's solely first person viewpoint (makes me ill).

As an aside, I picked up Train Fever and Fight the Dragon in the last 24 hours. FtD looks like a semi-interesting Diablo clone with very short user created modules. Train Fever is a cross between a limited Railroad Tycoon and Cities in Motion with a relaxed Banished sort of feel. Not sure how long I'll play it, but I'm relaxed while doing so.

I have learned that if my plane goes down in Canada I hope that I don't make it out of the crash because I have no freaking chance in the wilderness. :)

I watched one video and knew it had me written all over it. Of course, the actual dragon fighting aspect seems uninspired, but it is still in development and could get better. While I loved Path of Exile, it kept changing in such a way that I got tired of redoing builds using the maze of a skill tree that it has. For more casual play, this looks right up my alley.

PilotMan 12-27-2014 09:05 PM

Yep, on the fence on Long Dark as well. It's on my list, but it's bound to be awhile before it goes any lower than $10 probably, right?

B & B 12-27-2014 09:10 PM

Probably have more time on The Long Dark than anyone in our FOFC group, its still in sandbox (alpha) mode, but I feel that Ive already gotten my 10 bucks worth.

Id say between 4-6 updates since I have owned it already and it will probably go full release in the spring. Would recommend.

Grabbed it and I wished it had the click based controls of Diablo verses WASD. It does use a controller but mine goes into auto move randomly.

Atocep 12-27-2014 09:17 PM

Got a fire started, ate, didn't freeze to death on my first night. Considering the stuff I've read I consider that a victory.

We'll see if it ever gets to where the dev wants it to get to. I had quit buying games in alpha, but this is something I've had my eye on for some time. I'm sure I can get $10 of it regardless.

Current game I have made it to day 3. Found a village and have been living house to house. Only problem is that there seem to be wolf packs just outside of the village so just going house to house can be dangerous.

The previous couple games I have started right near wolves (found out on one of them that the wolf wouldn't enter the ice fishing shack that I ran into but wouldn't leave either, was trying to get me and as soon as I stepped outside I was attacked; and I HAD to try to make a run for it because I had no fuel left for a fire and was freezing to death).

Matthean 12-27-2014 10:37 PM

A video shows lighting a torch scares the wolves away.

I enjoyed Skyrim and played a ton of it but would agree it seems to be overrated. It's good, but nowhere near one of the best games of the last decade or so I sometimes see it listed as.

FrogMan 12-28-2014 11:10 AM

after telling myself I would not buy another game from Steam for maybe 2-3 years, I caved in for three so far...

Lego Marvel Super Heroes for 5.49$cdn since both mys 10 and 17yo sons have put good time into it and it looked so frigging cool... Have not played it but will try to play some before the Holiday break is over...

Grid Autosport for 10.99$cdn and I gotta say it's been a blast. A bit pricier than what I usually buy on Steam but I was looking for a decent racing game and it works quite well with our cheapo F310 logitech gamepad. Already played 3 hours of it which it a ton more than many of the games on my library.

And just now, Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition for 4.94$cdn because I've always wanted to get into that game. No clue when I'll try it or if it will even stick but for under 5 bucks, it was worth it. That's also the kind of thinking that got me to buy 50 to 75 bucks of games every sale without playing more than 10% of them. heh...

MizzouRah 12-28-2014 02:49 PM

Right now I prefer Pandora: Eclipse of the Nashira over Civ BE. Mainly because I can play for an hour or so and make good progression in Pandora. Seems to be too much going on in Civ BE for me to get far each time I play.

I wonder what kind of interest there would be in a FOFC Blood Bowl league.
