Yeah, I guess the Minnesota one wasn't "going to be on the training video" like the NFL said after the game.

I think the one against the Bears was a clear penalty, the Minnesota one was a clear non-penalty and the Washington one was 50-50 by these new rules (although I doubt the same play gets called this week). So, just like the "Fail Mary" getting rid of the replacement refs - Green Bay had to give up another win for the NFL to get its shit together on a failed policy. :D

stevew 09-27-2018 04:36 PM

Shouldn’t the Niners call the Browns and ask about Tyrod? I can see how turning the team over to CJ does anything but insure a 6-10 finish. Not saying Tyrod is great but I think he’s basically competent.

Warhammer 09-27-2018 08:44 PM

As a Rams fan, Jared Goff may not be a bust.

stevew 09-27-2018 08:53 PM

Guy gets his helmet knocked off by force... shouldn't that merit at least 1 play on the sideline for inspection? Or burning an injury time out?

CJ is a solid guy. He is a back up for sure, but he does have a decent skill set. He is shifty and has an arm.

He is a really poor mans Brett Farve.

But I am biased.

Ryche 09-27-2018 09:33 PM

How was that not a penalty? They even threw the flag so it wasn't missed.

stevew 09-27-2018 09:47 PM

I know Griffen is out with a DNP-Mental Breakdown, but aren’t these supposed to be 2 of the premiere defensive squads in the league?

stevew 09-27-2018 10:24 PM

Funny that Suh and Donald can sack the QB without penalty but Clay Matthews can’t figure it out.

I'm glad we're back to the point it's not a flag, but that last Donald sack would've absolutely been a flag first 3 weeks IMO.

stevew 09-27-2018 10:29 PM

Theilan(sp) I think did get screwed out of a TD early by a horrible call. Once again a quick whistle ruins the ability to review something.

stevew 09-28-2018 06:42 AM

I love the Royal/Yellow Rams look, eveb though the helmet doesn't match

I am completely biased, but it is one of the top 5 uniforms in the league.

If you're the Niners though, do you really want to win now? If you were a borderline playoff team with Garoppolo, you have to be a decidedly mediocre to poor team without him. Why try to wring anything more out of the current roster other than some healthy development time from everyone you have, and cash in with a much better draft pick than you expected next year?

The later trade deadline helps here. I don't think CJ Beatherd is anyone's Brett Favre, but if he's just below average and you're competing in games you probably go that route. If he's abysmal the first 2-3 weeks then you can trade a low pick for Taylor, RG3, maybe Bridgewater if the Saints would flip him & don't see him as Brees' successor.

I kinda like them, but then blue and grey are my favorite colors :)

Between this post & Twitter using the word "gruesome" a lot, I'm pretty sure I'll just pass on seeing it.

Was Golden Tate always such a showboating bitch?

cartman 09-30-2018 03:01 PM

That was an exciting end to the Lions/Cowboys game. Lions get a TD to take the lead with just over 2 min left. Cowboys march down and get a FG as time expires.

Lathum 09-30-2018 04:03 PM

Good Lord the refs just screwed the Giants

Nelson dropped a TD that was an incredible throw

Yep and he had a TD called back after nice pass at the end zone that the receiver stepped out of bounds on the review.

How is Nick Chubb not starting for Cleveland?

Groundhog 09-30-2018 07:45 PM

Ravens are fun to watch with all their dual-QB formations.

Interesting definition of great, Al.

Have any of them actually had the threat of 2 QB's yet? All I've seen is Joe Flacco standing aimlessly on one side while they run an obvious run play with Jackson at QB. It seems like you could do so much more than just use him as Ronnie Brown running the wildcat.

As a Notre Dame fan who watched him turn from 3* RB to great WR... Yeah, pretty much. I think he's actually really smart (like 700+'s on each SAT section) but he was always that cocky after winning jump balls, even before he was nationally known.

I did not get to watch the Cleveland game, but when he had 2 runs for 64 yards & a touchdown we were wondering if he got hurt or they were just dumb... Lo & behold, they gave him a 3rd carry & he ran for another 41 yard touchdown, then he never saw the ball again while Carlos Hyde averaged 3.5 yards per carry. Shurg, Hue Jackson also said he had to watch the tape to decide a QB starter after last week's Jets game, so maybe he just needs to watch the tape of Chubb busting off 40+ yards TD's on 2/3 of his carries to give him more than 10% of the carries

thesloppy 09-30-2018 09:00 PM

Chubb looked relatively lost off-the-ball the first couple games, muffed a punt return, and is apparently a liability in terms of pass protection, fwiw.

I think it's the kind of thing where you insert a new trick every couple of weeks. Only a matter of time before Jackson throws a bomb with the D looking run, or there's a lateral to Flacco etc.

Ehhhh, that was pretty much the book on him coming into the draft. It's not like HJ made him worse somehow. (Those are the some of same issues that led to Michel and others being able to take carries from him in college)

molson 10-01-2018 10:41 AM

It's always so ridiculous to me when grown-ups athletes complain about running up the score. Are the Jets' players feelings really so hurt because of that extra point they lost by? I can't even fathom that. Can't they talk to their mommies or something and feel better with some ice cream?

I've been pleasantly surprised by how highly rated Michel's pass protection was and how quickly he seems to be doing well at it given all his missed preseason time. The couple pundits I like most graded him as the #2 pass protecting guy (after Saquan because Saquan can do no wrong).

There are also whispers the Patriots think he can be a good pass catching back, but I saw little evidence of that at Georgia or in his incredibly small 5 target sample size. I'm glad he had a really good running game - Boston talk radoi idiots were trying to call him a bust after 2 games when it seemed pretty obvious the O line was giving him nothing to work with.

EagleFan 10-01-2018 07:22 PM

Is ESPN on a tape delay for this game? I am seeing draft kings updates that are happening before I see the play.

Chubb got most of the hype (and fan love) in college but I think Michel was considered by those in the know as the better pro prospect for quite a while, everything I saw made me feel like that was completely fair.

It's not a knock on Chubb (who I followed throughout his HS career as he went up & down the field against my alma mater & others as a region opponent). His greatest assets, however, were his sheer strength & endurance and his unquestioned work ethic. By the time you get to the highest level, a lot of guys have those things (or at least you'd hope they do).

I've noticed this in general due to DirecTV (I think). I get score updates for teams I follow, and I got a notification of a KC FG immediately after a 3rd down play as I watched. Like, the kicking team wasn't even on the field yet, and the FG was already good.

I'm used to getting a notification as the kick happens - usually a few second delay anyway - but it's getting worse.

Lathum 10-02-2018 08:52 AM

Case Keenums inability to hit a wide open Demarius Thomas cost me $400.

Thomkal 10-02-2018 09:35 AM

Chiefs traded up over my beloved Cards to take Mahomes too, so by law I have to hate him :)

Carman Bulldog 10-02-2018 10:48 AM

So I count 10 quarterbacks from the past three drafts (not counting CJ Beathard) that are now starting quarterbacks, and several look like potential stars. Listed in brackets is the age that there are/will be in 2018. If you were starting a franchise today, which order would you rank these guys in. Feel free to dip into Winston (24) and Mariota (25) if you really like. Here's the list from the 2016-2018 drafts...

Jared Goff (24)
Carson Wentz (26)
Dak Prescott (25)
Mitch Trubisky (24)
Patrick Mahomes (23)
Deshaun Watson (23)
Baker Mayfield (23)
Sam Darnold (21)
Josh Allen (22)
Josh Rosen (21)

Fun game!

Here's mine:

Patrick Mahomes (23)
Carson Wentz (26)

Then I think a bit of a gap

Deshaun Watson (23)
Baker Mayfield (23)
Josh Rosen (21)
Jared Goff (24)
Marcus Marriota (25)
Sam Darnold (21)

1. Jared Goff - He is in complete control of his team and offense. He is leading the ship of perhaps the best team in the NFL

2. Patrick Mahomes - Super talented and putting up video game numbers right now. I am concerned that he may turn the ball over quite a bit with his loose aggressive style.

3. Carson Wentz - Complete package on a great team with great coaching. Nick Foles won a super bowl with that team so... Perhaps he was a bit overrated last year when people were talking MVP.

4. Deshaun Watson - A couple very good WRs to work with. At the very least he will put up great numbers yearly.
5. Baker Mayfield - More impressed with him early in his career than I would have thought. He has handled everything great and appears to be making great progress.
6. Sam Darnold - Needs to work on his consistency. Typical with rookies.
7. Mitch Trubisky - Seems like he is playing with confidence this year
8. Dak Prescott - Your typical average NFL QB, he wont really hurt you but he cant win playoff games for you either. Cowboys will need an upgrade
9. Josh Rosen - TBH I havent seen him play in the NFL yet
10.Josh Allen - I still dont know why he was a 1st round pick. We know how NFL teams do drafting players on "tools" without production to back it up.
