Breeze 06-07-2013 06:12 PM

all, I'm currently working on the County Meet lineups for the Summer Swim team, which has me tied up. I can do a draft period tomorrow around 10:30 EDT...chime in if you think you can attend...

Suicane75 06-07-2013 07:02 PM

That works for me. Anytime pretty much works for me actually.

I don't necessarily have a problem with it, I'm more stunned that the 17th pitcher on the staff in terms of innings is carded, how the heck deep is this set?

It also lets me know that the list of carded players I posted very early in the thread apparently turns out to be pretty much worthless :(

Just a thought, but I don't think getting everyone together is gonna work out real well. Perhaps we can assign times for everyones picks starting Monday or Tuesday (to give everyone time to set up).

Say starting at 10am est
10:00am- Hawkinsville
10:15am- Cleveland
10:30am- Birmingham
10:45am- Atlanta
11:00am- Salt Lake
11:15am- Stamford
11:30am- Montpelier
11:45am- Knoxville
12:00pm- Seattle
12:15pm- Philadelphia (Both)

12:30pm- Seattle
12:45pm- Knoxville
1:00pm- Montpelier
1:15pm- Stamford
1:30pm- Salt Lake
1:45pm- Atlanta
2:00pm- Birmingham
2:15pm- Cleveland
4:00pm- Hawkinsville (Both)

4:15pm- Cleveland
4:30pm- Birmingham
4:45pm- Atlanta
5:00pm- Salt Lake City
5:15pm- Stamford
5:30pm- Montpelier
5:45pm- Knoxville
6:00pm- Seattle
6:15pm- Philadelphia (Both)

7:00pm- Seattle
7:30pm- Knoxville
8:00pm- Montpelier
8:30pm- Stamford
9:00pm- Salt Lake City
9:30pm- Atlanta
10:00pm- Birmingham
10:30pm- Cleveland
NEXT- Hawkinsville

If we did this we'd be near done by the weekend, and we could just wing the last few rounds over the weekend. This way everyone knows when their pick is due. I'll be around pretty much all week if anyone wanted to send me lists. Miss your pick and we skip you but you can come in and make it anytime after that. Sound decent?

BYU 14 06-08-2013 06:53 AM

Suicane's idea works for me since I work from home 4 days a week and the CPU can pick for me when I am in the office.

Suicane75 06-08-2013 07:00 AM

Yeah, I mean even you miss picks you can still make them at some point during the day and I'm not sure there's any other reasonable way we can move quicker and still have everyone make their own picks.

JonInMiddleGA 06-08-2013 09:15 AM

Well I think something needs to happen. In the past 22+ hours (looked back to my last pick) we've had a total of 3 picks.

edit to add: Not being ugly, just being honest, that's pretty much close to killing this for me.

JAG 06-08-2013 09:31 AM

My two cents, find a time when Jon, Suicane, and Breeze can be around at the least since Jon / Suicane are the two who have indicated they for sure want to make all their picks, and do that. We'll finish up ASAP and the people who feel strongest about making all their picks will be able to do so.

JonInMiddleGA 06-08-2013 09:40 AM

I'm just starting to hope that I didn't set an alarm this morning for no reason.

Heh. 10:30's not so bad, Jon. Certainly better than having your neighbors using power tools at 7:45...

Sorry...my time is tied up with swimming work right now and I am the coordinator for 2 teams picks...

I didn't see anyone (probably should say...enough people) chime in that 10 was going to work, so I focused on getting further along in the swim analysis...

{scratches head}

There were three replies affirmative about 1030a after the offer, as well as one in the negative, and 2 (3?) of the other teams are you. That would account for over half the league.

{shrug}

It's cool, I think I just need to step aside.

As much fun as the league sounded -- and I was gung ho enough about it to have put quite a few hours of research into the draft portion alone, probably an embarassing amount to be honest -- this is now just to the point of being somewhere between annoying & genuinely irritating. Nobody else needs to have to deal with that, I'm just not the personality type that is suited for this sort of situation I guess.

Good luck with it, the AI (or a spectator) will inherit a pretty dynamic offensive lineup, maybe it can auto-draft a decent pitching staff.

No hard feelings afaic, luck to all, I'm out.

BYU 14 06-08-2013 12:05 PM

FWIW I hope you reconsider and stay Jon, think we have a solid group of owners and this will be fun once it gets rolling along.

Plus it is so much better reliving days gone by with real people, isn't as much fun to talk trash to the CPU ;)

Jon

Please don't quit...My response was not meant to be a slam, it was a genuine apology. With 8 people playing and only 3 chiming in that they were interested in being online at 10:30, I was stuck with the problem of how to handle the rest of the league. I can't without some warning force picks on the rest of the guys.

Also, as I said, right now I'm having to do some swim analysis for the summer team, which is eating up a bunch of my time and I'll be heading out of town tomorrow for 3 days, which is really making organizing anything to speed up this draft difficult.

I really would like this to proceed. And I believe it will be fun, but only if we have enough human owners to make this interactive, and you were one of the most committed.

Trying to organize this and keep everyone happy isn't easy, and in hind sight I should have proposed a time next weekend, so everyone would have time to see the suggestion and make arrangements to participate.

I hope you'll reconsider...

Suicane75 06-08-2013 12:41 PM

Some ideas.

1) My proposal above.
2) A revised version of my proposal above where each team picked twice a day instead instead of 4?
3) Trying to get everyone together for a few hours
4) Setting up time limits for your picks starting Monday. (1 or two hours from when you're up then we skip you, you can come back and make the pick anytime?

I do believe that we need to go ahead and just decide on some option sooner rather than later though.

JonInMiddleGA 06-08-2013 12:44 PM

Breeze, I totally appreciate that and I'm don't mean to be a bitch or anything, I really don't. Trying to organize something like this has to be a bear and real life intrudes on pretty much all of us over the age of like 12 when it comes to gaming, that's just how it goes, I totally get that.

But by next Saturday the draft would have been underway for 18 days ... and with no guarantee (and no way to guarantee) that availability/ participation would have been any better then than today. Hell, I can't sit here today & tell you with absolute certainty where I'll be next Saturday, that's just how life goes. And that notion has just completely drained my enthusiasm.

I've said many times that I'm "just not an MP guy" and I think this idea just had so much potential to be tremendous fun for me that I convinced myself to set that personal rule aside. I probably shouldn't have done that in hindsight, I'm either wound too tight or just have the wrong personality for it in some other way and deep down I probably knew better. That's not about anybody else, I'm quite willing to say that's on me.

I just know that it doesn't make sense for me, nor is it good for the league for me to continue when I've reached the point that the dominant emotion I'm getting from it is frustration (which probably understates it a little) & the most common reaction is (literally) heartburn. And unfortunately, the unvarnished truth is that's the point I've reached.

Hopefully everybody can just chalk this up to Jon being Jon and not be too upset with me for pulling out. I'm just convinced at this point that's the only smart thing for me to do.

Best of luck, I really mean that.

Jon,

Very sorry to hear this...now that we are beyond the 10 picks for protection i was inclined to lean towards Suicane's suggestion of time limits and auto-picking to speed things up. However, I have to figure out how to accomplish that from the office...

If you want back in, you're team is available. I'm sorry that I frustrated you to this point, it's just been a bad couple of weeks at my house, and my typical schedule is off because of it. I can tell starting the middle of next week things will start to run more smoothly again.

Hope you'll at least check in from time to time to see how things are going.

Breeze

Suicane75 06-08-2013 12:58 PM

Breeze. No real need for you to be around to "monitor" things. If someones pick time passes we just skip em till they can come back and pick. I don't think there's any need to auto pick for anyone.

If everyone else is ok with this, then we can move forward that way.

BYU 14 06-08-2013 01:39 PM

I am just throwing this out as an alternative.

We continue to draft as usual until round 15.

Then, each player submits a list of 30 players in order of preference each morning, breeze then updates the list at his convenience throughout the day and we knock out 3 rounds a day and are ready to play by next weekend.

Out of box, but it could get us playing in a week.

I'm ok with this as well. You guys just need to let me know what works best for you...I don't have a team, but I can coordinate the draft for my bother and kids around whatever you guys come up with...

britrock88 06-08-2013 03:13 PM

With 6 everyday players, 4 starters, and my closer already in the fold, I would be happy to have the rest of my team auto-picked at any point.

DavidCorperial 06-08-2013 04:47 PM

As I said, I'd kinda like to draft my own team fully.

Guys...I am heading out of town on business for a few days. I suggest we keep the draft going as is for now. When I return we'll start implementing some sort of time limit to speed this up...

I hope this is acceptable to everyone...
