Going to see a lot of this with sports betting being legalized in a lot of areas. I'll bet many of those people bet the Eagles first half.

The Draft Kings "Sweat" commercial is a pitch for the thrill of a gambling addiction.

cuervo72 09-08-2019 05:26 PM

Or, you know, they're just Eagles fans who were thinking, "WTF?"

Oh, Lions.

I know it's only the Lions, but Murray looked pretty good once he settled in.

That throw to Fitzgerald in OT was beautiful.

tarcone 09-08-2019 07:03 PM

If you dont have TJ Hockenson on your fantasy team you better get him.

He will be the best TE in the NFL this season.

jbergey22 09-08-2019 07:24 PM

Lions are shit! How they could tie a team that could do nothing 80 percent of the game is amazing. Jets are shit too.

Danny 09-08-2019 07:25 PM

Stafford tried to give the game away at the end, saved from himself

Carman Bulldog 09-08-2019 07:26 PM

No idea why the Cards would punt on 4th and 7 at the Detroit 46 with 1:10 left to play in overtime. You're not getting the ball back.

Maybe the thinking is that after being down 24-6 in the 4th quarter, you're lucky to come away with the tie so take the point. I don't know.

SirFozzie 09-08-2019 07:33 PM

Holy shit, the Pats play the Dolphins next week? Belichick might try to set some all time scoring records.

tarcone 09-08-2019 08:07 PM

Hockenson set the record for receiving yards by a TE in his debut.

The league had 3 of the best seasons ever for TE's last year and rookie TEs historically struggle. Kelce is one of the best to play the game. No way in hell Hockenson outscores him unless Kelce misses half the season.

Yeah that kinda had me scratching my head too, but what I decided was they didn't want to give Stafford good field position to get enough yards for a FG to win the game.

Last season the best TE in the NFL was Gearge Kittle. Guess what? He was an Iowa TE.

Hock is better.

Thomkal 09-08-2019 08:37 PM

So you would have won a lot of money off me if you had bet me that the Cards were going to come back and end up tying in OT. I really don't know what to think of them now. Which is the real Cards-the team that played like the worse team in the NFL through 3 quarters or the one that shined in the 4th and OT? I suspect closer to the former than the latter, but we will have to wait and see in the next couple of games.

So yay for the tie?

Doubt it.

I listen to a lot of sports betting radio and they are always giving numbers about how much money is bet in local books for the home team. I guarantee a ton of people at that game had money on the home team.

You're underestimating the power of sports betting

SirFozzie 09-08-2019 08:51 PM

BTW, I'm throwing the penalty flag for Unpunsmanlike Conduct on FOFC as a whole (myself included), because none of us posted after a certain rookie WR's performance today...

This is an absolutely masterful job on defense by the Patriots tonight

I'm from Philly. I have people from Philly on my FB feed. Trust me, they weren't like this because they bet on the Eagles.

Also, you have a gambling problem.

Did you forget about Kelce? 103 catches and 10tds? Kittle had 43 catches his rookie year. Probably around what Hockenson will do this year.

I tried to tell y'all. This Patriots back 7 is unbelievable. Minimum 12 wins.

Should be 8-0 to start the season with their schedule. Not a playoff team on the schedule until week 9. In fact they only have 4 games on their schedule that should worry them at all. @Eagles, Cowboys, @Texans, Chiefs. Possibly @Ravens

JonInMiddleGA 09-08-2019 09:42 PM

I just realized that Dan Quinn is probably going to end up the next HC in Knoxville.

Isn’t this just the norm though? And I know that they had 11 wins last year. But really it seems you can pencil them in at a minimum 12-4 record every year.

I think Tennessee hires Matt Campbell from Iowa State.

PilotMan 09-08-2019 10:26 PM

Good lord.

Everyone turn to the book of Embarrassment, chapter 15, verses 2 through 25. If you don't have the book, any chapter will do. They're all the same and they just repeat over and over.

SirFozzie 09-08-2019 10:28 PM

The crazy thing is that I believe Tom Brady's comments...he is pissed off about their performance, and that they have a lot to work on in Week 2.

Even if you think they "should" you have to realize they womt, right?
He doesn't have the cache to pacify the UT masses.

Would you like it if someone called you an alcoholic because you posted you got drunk a few times or like white claw?

It is a shitty assumption to make about someone because they have a different opinion or they like an activity that you don't.

If you, he, or anyone else thinks the NFL and its success isn't largely driven by gambling I have a bridge to sell you.

Blank strikes me as a patient owner. And he just gave Quinn an extension.

But, man, that team is way too talented to be playing like it is. Whether it is scheme or motivation, the buck does seem to stop with the coach.

I thought it was weak because they were an expected bad team playing not to lose. If you lose, who cares? At least this year. New coach, new QB. Take some chances.

You're being unnecessarily judgmental.

"Just calling 'em like I see 'em." Ripped straight from the standard right wing facebook douche's playbook.

It is possible for people to gamble without having a "problem". Literally millions of people do it. Ever been in an NCAA pool? Ever played fantasy football for money? So did you. It's a pastime. You know, like baseball, but fun. Or posting on message boards about how you look down on others. Like that.

PilotMan 09-09-2019 08:00 AM

Hey, don't you guys have your own thread? Here we spend time bitching about the Patriots and their fans. Get on board or move on.

Sarc..

Sort of

Largely?

Don't get carried away.

Most estimates I find seem to point to around 20% of NFL viewers gambling on the games. It's higher if you isolate it to 25-34 males or 18-34 males (though still nothing higher than 40% IF estimates about the increased legalization adjust it upward correctly) but they are not a driving factor for the league's success, that's something that literally predates their existence.

I can despise the NFL as it exists today but not feel the need to make up shit about them.

Hopefully you can love to gamble without resorting to bullshit either.

You counting fantasy football in that?

The south Philadelphia Turf Club is a new sports book in the shadow of the stadium the eagles play in. I guarantee a ton of fans stopped there on the way in and threw some money on the eagles.

Last year (and most years since '07) they had some glaring weaknesses early on. I guess TE and OL depth still is, (and maybe Pittsburgh is secretly a 6-10 team), but the defense is the best it's been since '03/'04 & Wynn looked great at LT. And then we're adding Antonio Brown to the mix?!?

Next week could be odd since @Miami has been where weird shit happens for awhile, plus Flores might have tricks with his familiarity, but it's hard to see us not opening in the rarely seen -14+ range.

I was a lot more onboard with that decision than kicking a FG at 24-9 or an XP at 24-15. I know we all think Arizona won't be in the playoff mix, but yeah a tie is still better than a loss. (I guess the FO odds simulator was in favor of going for it by 0.4%, so it's really an either/or decision.)
