Scrap Metal dudes are modern day pirates. My neighbor lives off of it. He leaves before sunrise each morning and comes back with 2 or 3 hauls a day, sometimes with stuff that I'd swear he had to have stolen. Brand new bikes, patio furniture, brand new looking shit. They usually break it down and bring it in themselves but two or 3 times a year they have a giant industrial dumpster delivered that they fill easily. Ruthless buggers they are.

Rizon 10-11-2011 10:23 AM

Recycling centers are in on it, too. We've got a shady ass one here that recycles ANYTHING ... no questions asked. Shopping carts, grave items (urns, plaques, etc). Basically anything that's not industrial strength bolted down gets ganked and recycled.

sterlingice 10-11-2011 11:42 AM

We had a really expensive data center in Kansas City go down for a few hours a couple of years ago because someone stole the power wires and the air conditioning metal to them

Ksyrup 10-11-2011 11:48 AM

It seems like every week, we've got 5-6 stories about businesses, churches, etc., having their AC units stolen for the copper wiring in them. Is it as huge a thing elsewhere as it is here? Some places have been hit multiple times and now are having to invest in cages and/or security cameras.

There were 10 people arrested for a ring involving scrapping like this in the Twin Cities a month back. They towed people's cars and had then crushed for scrap metal (pennies on the dollar for what the cars were worth) the same day.

Did they arrest whoever did the crushing? Seems like a car would be an easy place to verify title.

Ok, now that is dumb. It's like the goth kids taking themselves so seriously as vampires and start biting people. With two kids, dude should be home playing Xbox, not pretend out on the streets that could kill him.

One of the annual traditions in the Philadelphia area is the Mummers Parade. Having not grown up in this area, I always thought this was ridiculous. Until now. Based on this article, I now have a complete understanding of why they exist.

I have linked below the original story, and a photo gallery of those arrested. Be warned! The photos are graphic - not because of any NSFW issues... oh no. Two words for you: SKANK ALERT! (But if I had to be serviced by one, gal #2 would be the only one I could see paying for.) The rest... oh noes!

Cops: Man uncooperative after being stabbed in scrotum with hypodermic needle | Wichita Eagle

Cops: Man uncooperative after being stabbed in scrotum with hypodermic needle
BY DEB GRUVER
The Wichita Eagle

A 39-year-old Wichita man told police someone stabbed him in the scrotum with a hypodermic needle after an argument.

A scan at the hospital showed that part of the needle had broken off in the man's scrotum.

The man reported the incident to police at 1:25 p.m. Friday. The incident occurred at 31st and Seneca streets in south Wichita. A police report did not indicate if the fight happened at a home or a business.

The man underwent surgery to remove the needle.

Police said the victim was uncooperative about divulging who had stabbed him.

sterlingice 10-14-2011 05:41 AM

I think most people would be "uncooperative" after that

SI

Ksyrup 10-14-2011 07:50 AM

Is taking drugs by injection to the scrotum the new thing or something? Or maybe it's not all that new, I don't know. That's the only thing I can figure. Dude either did it to himself or some chick he was geting high with did it, the accident occurred, and he made up a stupid story to cover himself when he realized he needed medical attention.

Because otherwise, how do you get into a fight and allow someone to get that close to your package to stab you?

Ksyrup 10-19-2011 02:51 PM

I was surprised not to see a thread about this. I guess this is fairly big news here since we're in a neighboring state. Ohio apparently has some of the most lax laws on personal ownership of animals in the country. Just ridiculous that someone can have those kinds of animals on their property.

When it came out that they found him dead, I assumed the animals killed him. But then you realize that all the animals had gotten loose, and you figure either he did it and killed himself, or this is some Disney movie where the chimps unlocked all the cages and then it went horribly wrong.

Passacaglia 10-19-2011 03:02 PM

Someone at lunch was telling us about this story, and he said that the guy let all the animals out, and killed himself. We all assumed that he killed himself *by* letting out the animals, and they attacked him. But we were wrong.

DataKing 10-19-2011 03:21 PM

PETA's going to have a field day with that one...

Ksyrup 10-19-2011 03:28 PM

Luckily, Jack Hanna's there to take up the side of law enforcement.

Seriously, if there's anyone PETA ought to be pissed at, it's the Ohio legislature for apparently allowing this. Once these types of animals get out into the general public, it's hard to be sympathetic toward a position that they shouldn't kill these animals. It's not like your typical sherriff's office has hundreds of big game animal tranquilizer guns/darts.

nah, the monkey were the only animals still in their cages (inside the house aparently). Then again, thatīs textbook fabricating an alibi :D

I read about it at work today and really had to read it a at a few sources to comprehend the number of dangerous animals he kept. At first i figured it was some sort of "park" for visitors (which still isnīt exactly normal), but to do sth like that as basically a private hobby is just insane ... 18 fucking Tigers and 17 freaking Lions, holy hell ...

I understand why authorities had to act quickly and shoot them, still ...

Rules should be much, much stricter. A private person amassing this sort of number of animals like that just shouldnīt be happening.

ColtCrazy 10-19-2011 06:54 PM

I'm definitely not a fan of PETA, but I see no reason that they can't find another way to catch the animals, especially the Bengal tigers that are so rare. Just an utter waste. Regardless of the man's intentions, he was a selfish jackass for doing this. Tragic.

Crapshoot 10-19-2011 07:46 PM

What ColtCrazy said. There are ~2,000 Bengal Tigers (or something like that) in the world today - murdering them seems sad. You think we could get tranq darts in there to do something about it?

PilotMan 10-19-2011 08:08 PM

Apparently a vet tried to tranq one of the tigers and it turned on them and attacked. Police officers had to shoot it with their sidearms to subdue it. I think they are trying everything that they can, but every single minute that these very deadly animals are running around, puts the lives of normal people at risk.

If even one person is hurt because of the so called welfare of the animals the police are going to be crucified. Time is of the essence, and unless you have a group of big game hunters nearby with the materials to take care of these animals you really don't have many other options.

Scoobz0202 10-19-2011 09:12 PM

I was watching the local news and they were interviewing one of the experts called to the scene. They even mentioned how it's not like the movies where you tranq an animal and it drops. It takes up to and sometimes longer then 10 minutes for the animal to go down depending on the size. This happened right before nighttime, also. Jack Hanna himself said that he is terribly saddened by the loss of the animals (mostly mentioned the bengal tigers), but he said there was no other choice. The loss of these beautiful animals is better then the loss of one human life, he said.

Neon_Chaos 10-19-2011 09:42 PM

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.

whomario 10-20-2011 03:59 AM

PETA should be all over it for the fact that itīs absolutely ludicrous that those animals were privately owned.

But tranquing huge animals like that really isnīt instant and considering that it was at night it propably was very tough to hit a "good spot" for the tranq to be effective...

But doesnīt change the fact itīs a tragedy, but you have to target the root of the issue which is the lunacy of allowing private trade with theese sort of animals.
