Picked up Warband:Bushido and Eador Imperium for under 10 bucks total. Both look like fun little turn-based strategy games. Eador a bit more involved and WB more of a casual time killer.
|
As far as "do things", no they don't really do things.
I like collecting them and completing them for fun. THe more badges you craft the more experience points you get and your steam level goes up.Again if you don't care about any of that that doesn't mean anything. BUt leveling up makes you more likely to get free pack drops that's all I know. Other than that selling cards gets you loose change. Not really enough to do much with unless you had massive amounts of them. |
Football Mogul 2014 is on sale for $2.99

*grumble*
Really having a difficult time figuring out what else to get my Dad this year. I see from his Steam account that he just put another 50 hours into Skyrim this month, but I've already gotten him all the ES/Fallouts. What he hasn't been playing are the Tyranny/Pillars of Eternity/Wasteland 2 games I've gotten him in years past, so isometrics are out, but I can't really in any good conscience recommend either Mass Effect Andromeda or Elex, can I? Has anything else slipped my mind for a deep questy RPG from this last year in the Elder Scrolls/Dragon Age vein? ETA: I got him Witcher 3 last year, which he played most of the spring. |
side note: interesting dad

Divine Divinity series? Titan Quest/Grim Dawn? |

He's done all the Divinities, and The TQ/Diablo type stuff is more my Mom's thing. |
Has he played the dragon age games?
Edit: I see it mentioned now. What about both Witcher expansions? |
Yeah, I think I got him everything that was available.I think at this point I'll just get a Steam card for him, with instructions that we're going to spend it together while we're visiting next week. I've got just about everything (save Elex) in the genre loaded on my system so I can just load up half a dozen things he might not have heard of to see what he thinks he'd like. It'll just mean pulling myself away from MMOs and CK2. :) (TBH, I was hoping someone could jump in and advocate for one of the two games I originally mentioned, but I think I'm usually the guy who early adopts on mediocre games like that. :)
|
so is it better to sell all my steam winter cards now at high prices and then just craft things later? Someone said that during summer sale.
That they start high and keep going down from there. |
I'm not so sure it isn't better to sell your steam trading cards now and forget about crafting later.
(says the guy with the level 40 account) |
Mine are already eight cents, so cashing in isn't worth much.
|
I collect cards, craft my sale badges, as many as I can. I love raising my Official Steam Nerd level. Then I sell my cards that I have left over at the very end. Always willing to take unloved cards off of people's hands, always looking to complete my badges.
|
During the summer sale I MAXXED OUT at level 7! :)
Someone said it was good to sell the first batch right away because that's when they are highest but yeah...they are 8 cents. Doesn't seem very high. Free money for other cards tho to craft badges of other games and get more cards! :O |
i did it...i bought the yogscast humble bundle...yay charity!

Can someone explain Tabletop Simulator to me? Are most of the games played offline head-to-head, offline AI, asynchronous, etc. Also, are most of the games free from the workshop and the only games that one needs to pay for are from the "Downloadable Content"?, etc.
|
Tabletop Simulator is basically a room that contains 3d representations of game components. The room isn't programmed with rulesets or AI; it's mainly a chatroom where people can use scripting functions and shortcuts to facilitate playing a physical board game in a virtual space. Again, no AI, and public games are as much a sewer as any game with Steam distribution and public lobbies tend to be.
Generally, with the DLC titles, you'll get a custom room and table graphics, along with pieces that are as equal as possible to the components of the physical game, while user-submitted games from the workshop are only as accurate as the modding skill of the person who makes them. Generally, I think when they license a new game, the free workshop versions get pulled, but it may vary per title. It is a very cost effective option if you can get people together online (or hotseat) in a private game, and if you can get the hang of the movements. But it really is just giving you the pieces of the game, and a virtual place to set them up. On the other hand, Scythe for $4 instead of $60-80... |
Played through 80 Days and Headliner.
Headliner for $3 was worth the 90min it plays, but makes you want to replay right away. 80 Days is a great adventure, on sale for $4. Took 3 hours on my first playthrough, easily could go over and over again. Didn't even scratch the surface. Both are choice driven story based games. 80 Days has some trading, and plenty of subtlety and surprises. I'd recommend them both, especially 80 Days. |
I've got a couple of coupons I won't use and would like to trade out to a good home:
90% off Robotex 90% off Super Duper Flying Genocide 66% off PuppyStory 75% off Yeti Adventure |

The game looks interesting, but so far it's DoA when I try to play it. I get sound but the screen keeps on flickering. |
Worth every penny
|
Well I got the game to work by changing the resolution in the user folder. Still can't load a game with 1920 x 1080 resolution though.

Carmageddon: TDR2000 free on GoG.com for about the next 20 hours

I'm sure we all have a billion copies of these games, but Humble Paradox Bundle---
Stellaris, EU III, HOI III, PoE, CKII, Majesty 2, Magika 2, Cities in Motion 2 all for $12. |
I have NONE of those games.
EDIT oops, I do have Pillars of Eternity |
|
They Are Billions. What an absurd time suck this game is. 5 hours feels like an hour. Incredibly frustrating and difficult. 40 hours deep and still havent beat the first map. Well worth the 25$.
|
Quote:
The next map type you unlock is even more frustrating. Think more open and infested cities are often found right next to your starting point. |

Bah! Thats one of my biggest gripes about the game, the Villages of Doom that spawn incredibly close to your base. Restarting a couple times is almost required to have a decent shot of winning. Thinking about dropping down the difficulty to 75-55'ish just so I can see the final wave. |
Ive got some steam coupons to giveaway for FOFC.
75% off Beater Spirit - normally 5.99 90% off The Last Hope (trump vs mafia) 3.99 Again, these coupons are FREE to a good home if you have any interest in those game hit me up. |

Been almost two months since this post, but I don't frequent this thread much. I just picked this up recently and it's hilarious. There's a great Markiplier rage montage out there for those who don't mind mild spoilers. I think the psychology of the game is fascinating ... and the steam reviews just back that up. Mostly positive, but the negative ones are full of either proving Foddy's point(stuff like 'made me so salty I refunded after 20 mins') or outright lying about the control scheme. |
I JUST got the Stanley Parable's infamous "Commitment" achievement which is to play the game for an ENTIRE Tuesday. :)

Steam having a "Lunar New Year" sale. Most everything on my wishlist looks like its on sale-and they have improved the wishlist making much easier for me at least to read, and other? improvements to it.
Other sites, like GoG also have Chinese New Year sales, so might be worth checking them all out |
Dungeons 2 giveaway on GOG.
