determining your politcal views/classification?
does anyone have any links to websites where you can answer some basic political questions and have it classify your politcal views/affiliation?
A co-worker and I are looking for something like this.... any help would be appreciated. |
There's quite a few of those out there, here's one
http://www.politicalcompass.org/ |
Cool. Thanks for the link.
I'm in the lower left quadrant: Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -6.00 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.31 |
A bit long, but interesting nonetheless.
Results : Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -2.25 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.59 Somewhere on the lines of Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. Pretty surprised on the economic side, because that is not really my normal view... Social results sounds about right though... |
I didn't note the exact numbers, but it plotted me about right IMO. Upper right quadrant, more Authoritarian than Economic Right. The plot was very close to that of Ariel Sharon.
|
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -6.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.56 |
Economic Left/Right: -2.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.08 That was kind of interesting, as I consider myself pretty ignorant when it comes to politics, nice to have some sort of idea where I stand. I'm close to the Dalai Llama's views..I can handle that. |
Hmm, I know this is definitely not a representative sample yet, but out of 5 so far, 4 are in the lower left quadrant.
Is the test significant or not, whaddaya think ? |
I would have described myself in the lower left before I took the test, so I think that it is accurate in that sense.
Some of the questions, however, seemed a bit slanted in that direction. Things similar to: "It is more important for multinational corporations to make lots of money than it is for people to be happy." (slight hyperbole) may account for the clustering in the lower left. I don't imagine that any short internet question list can be really accurate. However, I think that it is fine for what it is. I really wouldn't want to invest the time in a really accurate test. |
Economic Left/Right: -2.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.03 About where I figured I would be for social, but a little to the left of where I anticipated I would be for economic. |
Economic Left/Right: -4.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.59 |
dola.
For example: questions like "those who stand to personally profit from the investment of capital will put that capital to its most efficient use" may have gotten more responses toward the right. |
-4.00
0.36 I'm a weirdo. |
Haven't checked the site out for myself, but be carefull that the posers of the questions themselves are not just manipulating things for their own results.
|
Odd. This put me at a centrist semi-Authoritarian(not very high up)
This is not where I expected to be. Some of the wording on questions was a little tricky, so I think that may have played into it. This scale put me economicly LEFT of every presidential candidate, and I know I'm not. |
Quote:
Too many questions seemd to be slanted or misworded. For some reason I have to think that what the "Do you think religious schools play an important role is society?" amounted to "Do you think the government should fund religious schools?" when the two are completely different questions. |
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -5.88 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.62 Lower left, right with Gandhi. |
The questions there are not worded well, and, I think, force you into answers you might not necessarily agree with.
There also isn't a "no preference" option. I find hxxp://selectsmart.com/politics.html to generally offer better such quizzes. Scroll down the list and you'll find selectors for political philosophy, party, or whatever it is you want to know. |
I agree about the wording of the questions, some of them are very strange. It's pretty noticeable that many of us seem to be in the same location, when we know that people have FOFC have views that are all over the map.

Just out of curiosity, I checked out the site. Vosem Chart Locator 1: Conservative (100%) 2: Authoritarian (78%) 3: Libertarian (62%) 4: Traditional Societies (58%) 5: Totalitarian (46%) 6: New Labour (41%) 7: Anarcho-syndicalist (28%) 8: Liberal (7%) Also took the political geography quiz (bottom of the right hand list), luckily it told me I belonged in the South :) |
I remember doing this one a while back. I tested middle of the road between conservative and liberal but 100% authoritarian. So I decided the best government is, well, ME! ;)

I can't believe I didn't post this earlier. It's billed as "The World's Smallest Political Quiz" and was the very first online quiz of this type I ever saw.

Economic Left/Right: 1.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.92 I'm right there with Tony Blair, and far to the left of George W. Bush, which is odd. I'd consider myself to be more conservative. As for the other poll... 1: Traditional Societies (100%) 2: Conservative (96%) 3: Libertarian (83%) 4: Anarcho-syndicalist (78%) 5: Authoritarian (60%) 6: Totalitarian (60%) 7: New Labour (47%) 8: Liberal (42%) |
tucker,
For the poll you posted, here are my results. 1. Your ideal theoretical candidate. (100%) 2. Bush, President George W. - Republican (67%) 3. Kerry, Senator John, MA - Democrat (53%) 4. Kucinich, Rep. Dennis, OH - Democrat (52%) 5. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat (50%) 6. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat (49%) 7. Gephardt, Rep. Dick, MO - Democrat (44%) 8. Lieberman, Senator Joe, CT - Democrat (40%) 9. Sharpton, Reverend Al - Democrat (35%) 10. Clark, Retired General Wesley K., AR - Democrat (30%) 11. Moseley-Braun, Former Senator Carol, IL - Democrat (20%) 12. Phillips, Howard - Constitution (18%) Not surprisingly, the answer to the question "What percentage of the time does Cam agree with Dubya?" is the ever popular "two thirds". |
Your political compass
Economic Left/Right: -7.12 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.85 Right next to Nelson Mandela & Dalai Lama... |
Good to know I'm still in the bottom left quarter.
And I'm not surprised to have a Bush Score of 22%... |
Economic Left/Right: -7.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.90 Vosem 1: Liberal (100%) 2: Anarcho-syndicalist (72%) 3: Totalitarian (70%) 4: New Labour (68%) 5: Traditional Societies (48%) 6: Libertarian (39%) 7: Authoritarian (33%) 8: Conservative (9%) |
I have no idea what this means, but I suspect it makes me look much more like Archie Bunker than that other test I scored virtually in the middle of the graph with.
Rank Item Percent 1: Traditional Societies (100%) 2: Anarcho-syndicalist (85%) 3: Totalitarian (81%) 4: Conservative (80%) 5: Libertarian (64%) 6: Liberal (62%) 7: Authoritarian (57%) 8: New Labour (46%) |
From tucker's post:
1 Bush Score: 100% 2 Lieberman Score: 68% 3 Edwards Score: 63% 4 Clark Score: 60% 5 Kerry Score: 60% 6 Dean Score: 54% 7 Kucinich Score: 52% 8 Sharpton Score: 46% Bush and Lieberman 1 & 2. That worked out about how I thought it would, although I'm suprised Lieberman popped in at #2. And I'm suprised that G.W. was 100%. Where's Jessie the Body when you need him? |
