TCY/FOF Interactive Sign-Up Thread

I always love these things and now it is my turn to give it a whirl. The problem, as I see it, is that the dynasty always ends before you get into the FOF part, or so it seems. Barring a computer meltdown, this will not be the case here. I have a 10 month dynasty that is soon to end, so you can see I don't quit on these things- I hope to let it ride into, well, into however long there is still interest and enjoyment being had by those involved. If your guy ends up as major suckage, start a new one.

I don't care how good your player is or will be- better players mean longer careers. Longer careers mean more involvement and fun to see how good you can become. With this as my hope (studs all over the place), you can pick any relevant parameter. To whit:
  1. pick state and position
  2. pick state and highest ranked player any position
  3. pick highest ranked in any state at a certain position
  4. etc...
Just give a name and any preference you have for any parameter involved above (or another you can think of) and I will choose the player appropriate to your wishes.

TCY- I will be on 2nd string so I can see information not available on All-Star. My team will be a Sol8 in Alaska, run by computer.

FOF- default options. I will be Arizona(?), run by computer unless/until any FOFC player is on the team, at which time I will trade him to a team of his choosing, if possible. Or, at your request, I can draft all or any FOFC college player and trade you to the team of your choice, if possible.

So, sign up and answer the following, please:
  1. Real or random Reps for Team and Conference, Academics (i.e., do y'all like the usual suspects or want a little change in the landscape)?
  2. Is Arizona a good team to be or another crummy team is better?
  3. Injury, etc settings on default good?
  4. Do you like the 'draft and trade' idea?
Remember, this is supposed to be a maximum of fun. Putting your player in a situation or team you care about may enhance that fun, or it may take away from it. I don't know.

Since I haven't done this before, I am open to suggestions as to the basics of these interactive dynasties.

Comments...are we ready for another one of these at this time? I hope so. (post.too.damn.long)(ugggg)

Godzilla Blitz 12-14-2004 04:45 PM

I'm in!

I'd like to be the highest-ranked ILB in the recruiting pool!

Random thoughts...

One thing that strikes me with these kinds of dynasties is that they can quickly spiral out of control because of the number of people that sign up. Even twenty participants make for a hell of a lot of reporting over the course of one season. I think it's also hard to follow the other players when there are so many involved: the dynasty can quickly become one long list of player reports.

I've thought of doing a similar dynasty, but I was thinking that I would ask two FOFC members to represent one player in the dynasty, and then limit the dynasty to the first 24 people that sign up. That would give you 12 players to report on each season, which seems reasonable to accomplish. Any decisions to be made by the player would have to be made by the two FOFC members agreeing as to what their player would do.

In general, I think it's harsh to have to limit the number of people to sign up, but the reality is that following the careers of 30 players or so gets incredibly time-consuming.

These are just some random ideas, feel free to steal them or ignore them as you like. I won’t be doing such a dynasty (for football anyway) in the near future.

Travis 12-14-2004 04:49 PM

I'd like to be the highest rated RB around.

I'll echo GB's thoughts, when Blade and I did this type of thing, we were only playing the TCY end and limited it to 3 or 4 new signups a year so that we'd get turnover and be able to push along at a decent pace without having to report on 100 guys each week and it seemed to work pretty well that way. Not sure how well that'd work with adding the NFL end of it, but hey, if you're willing to take us all on, more power to you!

illinifan999 12-14-2004 04:50 PM

I'd like to be the highest rated QB in all the land.

tanglewood 12-14-2004 04:54 PM

QB #2 please. :)

ntndeacon 12-14-2004 06:26 PM

#1 OLB please!
DE-FENSE!!

Swaggs 12-14-2004 07:29 PM

I would like the highest ranked player from West Virginia. :) If he looks like he will not be in the top 500 or so, I will be the highest ranked player from North Carolina.

KWhit 12-14-2004 07:32 PM

I wanna be the #1 rated WR!

Edit:
Name: Kel Whit
  1. Real or random Reps for Team? Random
  2. Is Arizona a good team to be or another crummy team is better? AZ is fine
  3. Injury, etc settings on default good? Fine by me
  4. Do you like the 'draft and trade' idea? Yes!

Coffee Warlord 12-14-2004 07:32 PM

Rob Nielsen, Stud QB #3!

Blade6119 12-14-2004 09:44 PM

Colton Mayes, Stud RB#2!

thealmighty 12-14-2004 11:04 PM

Real or random?

Coffee Warlord 12-14-2004 11:09 PM

Random. Let's make it amusing.

Just don't let me get taken by Notre Dame, as per usual requirements. :)

larrymcg421 12-14-2004 11:53 PM

I was hoping to restart mine as soon as I got my computer problem fixed, but you beat me to it. Good luck with this.

If there are any top 1000 players from the following high schools, make me the highest from:

Norcross High in Norcross, GA or
Palm Bay High in Melbourne, FL

If not then make me the #1 WR in Florida.
  1. Real reps.
  2. fine
  3. fine
  4. No. I prefer it to be random.

Swaggs 12-15-2004 12:25 AM

1. I'd prefer real reps.
2. Sounds good, as long as it is none of the participants' favorite team.
3. Default settings sound good.
4. Maybe for players that don't look like they will be taken in the first three rounds, you could do the draft and trade.

GoldenEagle 12-15-2004 12:39 AM

Tim Brice - #1 RB in the land

DeToxRox 12-15-2004 12:50 AM

Danny Wilson #1 DE in the land

And I am all for what GB said.

Godzilla Blitz 12-15-2004 12:51 AM

1. Real Reps for Team and Conference, Academics
2. Arizona is fine.
3. Default
4. I'd prefer random assignment personally, but I can understand if others would want to pick their teams, so maybe that is better? I'm assuming we could always just say stay where we're drafted (if we ever get drafted, that is).

tanglewood 12-15-2004 03:27 AM

Real reps, don't mind on the rest.

Blade6119 12-15-2004 06:17 AM

If possible, I'd like to be the top rated DT in the land, if not, then being the #2 DT would be fine.

1. Real reps

special means I have to look for certain attributes or locations first. I will obviously be breaking this up into classes so, for example, CW will be the #1 QB in the second class instead of #3 in the first, etc...

Barring late voting, we will be going with real reps.

Its Vanilla 12-15-2004 07:27 PM

Cody Myers, Pennsylvania's top Quarterback.

illinifan999 12-15-2004 07:35 PM

If you want real names, illinifan999 = Daniel Ertmann and real reps sound good.

thealmighty 12-15-2004 09:47 PM

Don't need a 'real' name, just what you want to call your player. If you want to be known as Illi Nifan, or whatever, doesn't matter to me. ;)

Sorry CW. :o

I'm off for winter break in, oh, about 2 hours. We will be starting this puppy in earnest this weekend and rockin/rollin from there.

Breeze, thanks for the offer, and when I figure out how I'm going to present this (like others have or whatever, have not actually thought about it yet), I'll check back

thealmighty 12-17-2004 09:21 AM

WOULD THIS WORK

One thought I had, and maybe it has been done before, I don't know, is that maybe I would handle the TCY and someone else would take the draft import file I get from the TCY part and do the Pro part of the dynasty. I would e-mail or PM the file and they would do the pro write-up???

Has that been done? I don't know how much work both parts would be.

Maybe I should just have 2 seperate sections- one college, one pro- for this dynasty to make each part easier to follow.

Thoughts???

Due to the sometimes specific requests made, I have switched 2 players from this season, 2009, to next season, 2010.

If it makes msugreen feel better, the 2nd player I had to relegate was my own entry, T.E. Almighty. Michigan's best QB was #475 and dumb, and Texas apparently sucks, too, so executive decisions were made. Sorry if that was not the proper choice.

If you don't care about the quality, or lack thereof, player you get, I don't really care, but it's more fun if you get to go somewhere good--and play some, too.

Another executive decision was made, to move Desnudo up to 2011 and Achilles down. This was due to Achilles not giving a name and not having been on the board since February according to the profile.

As the list dwindles, there is a higher probability that requested players of a specific nature- such as #1 in Oklahoma- are not that good. We just have to hope for a lucky draw.

2011 is about to be produced, so good luck.

I'd like to be the highest rated player from Wisconsin who isn't an offensive lineman or a kicker/punter in the next year that's got an opening.

If it's really close between a couple players and one of them happens to be from one of the Racine schools (I think Park, Case, and Horlick are the three in the game) then go with the Racine player instead.

Oh and name is Tim Moungey :D You can use my board name for the nickname. Either that or Jestor, which is the name I usually take on forums when it's available.
