The Rose Bowl

Here's hoping for a great game between Mack '' We want to go to The Rose Bowl'' Brown and Llyod Carr.
Final score:

Michigan 23
Texas 21

korme 01-01-2005 04:53 PM

My profound hatred of Michigan is only stemmed furthur by their horrible coach Carr.

B & B 01-01-2005 04:56 PM

Texas -7 is my bowl game of the year, I'm expecting an easy double digit win.

:D Does Tress get sniffing dogs first?

(go blue)

CHEMICAL SOLDIER 01-01-2005 05:17 PM

I hope that it's a great fight. I haven't seen a good Rose Bowl game since ASU v. OSU in cira. 1997 or 98.

Cringer 01-01-2005 05:21 PM

When did Texas leave the Big 12 for the Pac 10?

CHEMICAL SOLDIER 01-01-2005 05:50 PM

When Mack Brown bitched about his predicament.

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 06:11 PM

Big play to Braylon.

He is going to take this game into his own hands like vs MSU.

Long day coming for the Texas secondary.

Solecismic 01-01-2005 06:28 PM

It's hard watching games like this. On one hand, great to see my team in a BCS game. On the other hand, they're up against a team that's one step away from a championship. It's a mismatch, and the -7 really is too low a spread.

Add that to some fairly horrible officiating in the first quarter, and it's a miracle it's still close.

Carr acts as if he's never seen a running quarterback before. Michigan used to eat those option guys for breakfast.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 06:41 PM

And it's tied at 14 at the half :D.

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 06:42 PM

Big turn of events from the muffed punt, then Braylon being SO wide open.

Woodley has been the best defensive player on the field too. Johnson is the most talented but right now, Woodley is playing the best.

This is gunna be a good second half.

Solecismic 01-01-2005 07:09 PM

That one's squarely on Carr. Inexcusable.

SunDancer 01-01-2005 07:10 PM

Michigan-Cal still sounds alot more worthy then Michigan-Texas. :)

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 07:16 PM

How did this game turn into a shootout? ;)

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 07:18 PM

Breaston can be so deadly when healthy. Two more years of this, baby.

Senator 01-01-2005 07:26 PM

I love people hating my school.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 07:31 PM

MAN... Edwards just finds ways to come open. UM up by a TD.

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 07:33 PM

How can you not have a saftey on him when a slant is so obvious in that situation? He could be the biggest gamebreaker in the NCAA because if you want to stop him, you can't. He's just been dominating.

Already two more TD's in this third then Texas has allowed all year. Gotta' love it.

I understand Michigan is not the best coached team in the world.

I also understand Texas isn't the best coached team in the world either. I've watched Texas plenty of times this year and I wouldn't put a single dollar on them. (win or lose)

When they play well, they are simply incredible to watch. Yet they don't play like a well oiled machine that often. And they are very beatable if you can force Young to make decisions.

Were I betting, I'd have stayed so far away from this game it would make your head spin. After seeing some of the early results, which included most of the Big 10 teams playing pretty well, I'd have moved even further away.

I like the Utah, Auburn, and OU lines far more than this one anyway. Pushed, I'd say I'd pick Utah as my best bet. I think they are just going to light up Pitt in the second half.

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 07:40 PM

Bring in THE MAJOR!

SunDancer 01-01-2005 07:42 PM

Go Blue! Why is the Rose Bowl, the one game, I always love to watch, no matter who's playing in it (while, expect atleast one Big Ten or Pac-10 school)?

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 07:53 PM

Vincent Young, great runner, horrible passer. As the time continues to tick away, the running aspect is gunna start going with it.

Also, how many games has it been for Benson with a TD?

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:08 PM

MY GOD! That Young TD was amazing!

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:09 PM

wow...

DUMBASS

Solecismic 01-01-2005 08:10 PM

Just like the Ohio State quarterback. Michigan makes these running quarterbacks look a lot better than they are. Poor tackling, poor defensive scheme.

DeToxRox 01-01-2005 08:11 PM

He can fucking run, thats for sure. Michigan needs a sustained drive, and then needs to put it in the endzone. Make him actually have to pass. We can't let him have time on the clock to where he can decide to take a chance to run.

Celeval 01-01-2005 08:11 PM

Heck of a game so far.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:12 PM

Yeah, it's been a pretty good day for football :D.

What make it so aggravating is that Young is obviously looking to run first. There's no spy underneath. So they contain with the rush, but that's only half the battle.

I just hope they can sustain this drive. Carr's instinct is to go conservative, but so far Edwards has been amazing. And Henne just overthrew an easy touchdown, damnit.

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:15 PM

Michigan is going for some trickeration.

Ya, how the hell is Texas in the Rose bowl?

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:19 PM

'Cause Cal isn't ;).

cthomer5000 01-01-2005 08:20 PM

Michigan gets points, but I have to feel holding them to a field goal (after the penalty) is huge for Texas.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:22 PM

Yeah, especially seeing as how Michigan is having big trouble holding Young.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:24 PM

Jeez, in 2 plays, Texas is almost in the Red Zone. Michigan really needed that TD.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:24 PM

That just looked WAAAY too easy!

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:25 PM

GREAT block, TD texas

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:26 PM

Is it a rule in bowl games this year that if you're under 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter that you don't play defense?

Solecismic 01-01-2005 08:26 PM

This is the one of the worst defensive teams Michigan has ever put on the field. Certainly the most overrated. And I've seen at least seven games a year for more than 30 years.

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:28 PM

holy shit, inside the 40 already on the kickoff return

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:28 PM

and special teams... people forget how to do that as well.

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:32 PM

Wow... the FG juuust made it and Michigan is on top again!

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:32 PM

42 yd fg......................................... good!

Solecismic 01-01-2005 08:33 PM

Not enough. They needed the six.

cthomer5000 01-01-2005 08:33 PM

does anyone doubt that Texas will get at least a field goal attempt out of this?

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:33 PM

Time for Michigan's D to do just enough to lose.

SunDancer 01-01-2005 08:36 PM

Carr is an idoit.

Celeval 01-01-2005 08:36 PM

I don't see either team stopping the other... last with the ball and time wins this.

Senator 01-01-2005 08:37 PM

C'mon boys!

cthomer5000 01-01-2005 08:37 PM

Come on, I know Young isn't this good.

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:38 PM

Am I the only one who thinks Michigan is better of letting Texas score now instead of wasting any chance at a win?

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:43 PM

37 yd FG from the hashmark to win for texas...

Solecismic 01-01-2005 08:43 PM

Sad that Carr has already accepted the loss. They could have forced Texas to at least kick off and defend a couple of plays after the field goal.

henry296 01-01-2005 08:43 PM

Why did Michigan not call its Time Outs?

ISiddiqui 01-01-2005 08:44 PM

Comes down to one last FG... on the left hashmark.

Easy Mac 01-01-2005 08:44 PM

I really think stadium announcers should start playing Vanilla Ice whenever a coach calls a time out before a big kick.

vtbub 01-01-2005 08:47 PM

Helluva game,

Wrong team won, but a great, great game.

Chubby 01-01-2005 08:47 PM

FG Good, texas wins. still friggin stupid that they even played in the Rose Bowl...

CHEMICAL SOLDIER 01-01-2005 08:47 PM

A great game nevertheless.

Celeval 01-01-2005 08:47 PM

Lot of penetration on the line, thought UM was going to block that.

It actually looked like one of the blue players got a piece of football on the replay, or is it just me?

HornedFrog Purple 01-01-2005 08:50 PM

The stars at night are big and bright...

Solecismic 01-01-2005 08:50 PM

Sigh. I actually thought that would fall short at first. What a terrible coached game from Michigan. Just completely mismanaged.

duckman 01-01-2005 08:50 PM

I'll be damn. Mack Brown finally wins a big game.

IMetTrentGreen 01-01-2005 08:52 PM

now, who wants to shut the fuck up forever? is it everyone? good.

I SUMMON IMTG to mock you all.

IMetTrentGreen 01-01-2005 08:53 PM

oh, btw, i have nothing bad to say about michigan. what an effort. texas' pass d has made a lot of good qb's look foolish, yet henne played great. hart is phenomenal. he's the best running back we've seen this year. good game all around, and the media and fans can go f themselves

Dutch 01-01-2005 08:58 PM

I admit that I just sat down to watch the Rose Bowl and felt myself rooting for Michigan because our boy Jim is an Alumni. It was sad that the Wolverines defense was like butter at the end, but you gotta give props to Young and to a kicker that had to be nervous as hell. Also, if the Michigan QB could have just hit a couple more passes (he was overthrowing too much) the outcome might have been different. But Texas and Young came through in the clutch.

Great, great game. It reminds me of everything good about college football.

Vegas Vic 01-01-2005 09:06 PM

Mack Brown needs to fire the special teams coach. My local junior high school team does a better job on kickoff coverage. WTF did Michigan average for the game, something like 50 yards per return?

If "everyone" includes you, the world is now a much better place. Talk to us again when you face OU next year.

Congrats Senator, happy for you they won the game. It was a terrific game. I think in the end we learned what we already knew:

Texas and Michigan are the two worst coached "elite" programs in the country.

Senator 01-01-2005 09:54 PM

I still think we missed a bullet in several areas - as usual. They messed around and put the ball on the left hashmark, and I was just sitting there saying that the world is not very fair when an idiot like that makes that kind of money.

BigJohn&TheLions 01-02-2005 01:15 AM

Michigan let a possible national championship go to waste this season. By going with a true freshman at QB it wasted a lot of the talent that was on this team. Think about it... Last year with Navarre Michigan looked to have an amazing tro of receivers. This year Edwards won the Biletnikof award despite Henne staring him down on nearly every play. He made highlight catch after highlight catch because the ball wasn't being put where he needed it in the first place. Avant & Breaston practically disappeared this season. I would NEVER play a true freshman QB unless there was absolutely nobody else who could throw past 10 yards. No matter how talented a kid is he needs more time than a few months... Henne better make MAJOR improvements for next season based on what he learned this year. It's too bad Guiterez hurt his sholder. That lefty must really suck to be beat out by a kid who just started shaving...

INDalltheway 01-02-2005 03:26 AM

Clayton Richard should be taking the snaps there... I may be bias because he is one of my brother's good friends, but that is just how I feel. :)

RPI-Fan 01-02-2005 03:33 AM

I don't get Michigan's little "trick" plays. If you're going to run tricks, do the real deal, not some half-assed cookie cutter ones.

Dutch 01-02-2005 12:25 PM

The key to the flea-flicker (provided it doesn't get busted up by the defensive line) is to actually throw the ball on target. Especially to #1, you have to give him a chance to compete for that football.
