FOFC BBCF initial league info

Hello all,

edit: The new forum is up. The address is http://www.fofc-bbcf.com/phpbb2

The HTML for site is soon to follow. I'll be doing a lot of design/development, so do be surprised if the HTML is constantly changing over the next couple of weeks.

Here are my plans for the league. Based on how customizeable the game is, these are definitely up for discussion and change. Hopefully we will be able to give good and constructive feedback to Arlie and the guys during their development process.

The league will structurally mirror the current Division 1A setup. 11 Conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West, Pac-10, SEC, Sun Belt, WAC), with Notre Dame and Navy as independants. If independants aren't possible, then Notre Dame probably will be in the Big 10 and Navy in Conference USA.

The plan is to have a playoff structure. The idea is to have a 16 team playoff. The entrants will be the 11 conference champions, plus 5 at large teams. If possible, there can also be a secondary 16 or 24 team playoff, or a set of bowl games for the teams that do not make the championship tournament.

You will have to own the game in order to participate. This is due to the export requirements. The participation requirements for human owners will be decided once more details of the game emerge.

Other than these points, this is the initial plan. As Arlie releases more details, the plans will firm up even more. If you are interested in joining, or have any feedback/questions, PM me or reply to this thread. I'll keep this list updated until the new BB is ready.

Here are the all of the teams, including those not yet claimed:

edit: the official list is now at: http://fofc-bbcf.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=103

Just an FYI, but your conference affiliations are most likely going to be different in the game than what you have here. For instance, UTEP will be in CUSA and Louisville will be in the Big East...

Yeah, I was going off of last year's alignments.

WSUCougar 04-11-2005 09:05 AM

Washington State, please. :D

gstelmack 04-11-2005 09:06 AM

I would be interested in taking NC State in the ACC.

SirFozzie 04-11-2005 09:18 AM

BC in the ACC please.

when the next Pro Football sim from GD comes out, there better be a FOFC league using the draft files from BBCF :D

(hmm.. there's an idea, too bad that we lost the end of year exports for FOFC FBCB, a FBB league would be fun)

condors 04-11-2005 09:48 AM

I am interested in Temple (not sure if they are still in the big east)

Passacaglia 04-11-2005 11:45 AM

Wait, the Michigan coach wants to be an alternate for Penn State?!? wtf?

Johnny93g 04-11-2005 11:53 AM

I would love to be Notre Dame if they are available

JeeberD 04-11-2005 12:01 PM

In the other thread sov was making fun of trying to start a league this far before the game was released...

His first choice, Penn State, was already taken. If the current Penn State claimer decides not to participate, the alternates get right of first refusal, in their listed order.

GoldenEagle 04-11-2005 12:25 PM

Put me down for Memphis.

I understand the process...I just dislike the fact that the Michigan coach would rather be coaching at PENN STATE.

When I think of Yankee style and Florida, all that comes to mind are old people driving Buicks with New York plates at 45 MPH in the fast lane with their left turn signal stuck on.

:D

This is one of the areas I am sure will change once we get our hands on the game. It will depend on how the hirings/firings are handled. My thoughts at the moment are to use some methods we have discussed in the FOFC-FBCB league. Maybe give all new coaches a grace period (4 or 5 years) before they can be fired, and have a manual appeal process to fellow coaches if someone feels they were fired unfairly.

Neuqua 04-11-2005 03:14 PM

I'll take control of NIU.

Don't worry, I will still manage to blow it in big games :).

On a serious note, I don't view any of the game code for any of our games, so I won't have an advantage from that.

No worries, just giving you a hard time. Now if Cal runs off a streak of 6 or 7 national championships, then we might have issues...

:D

JeffNights 04-11-2005 09:06 PM

I'd like to take the Western Michigan Broncos

Why? Well Michigan was picked, then i see the LionKing's hairy ass nabbed EMU, so I figure i'll take the Broncos and whip him back and forth across I-96

:)

Oh, I know Michigan State is still avalible....but please......

Ajaxab 04-11-2005 10:19 PM

I'll take Iowa if no one's claimed them yet.

MacroGuru 04-11-2005 10:33 PM

BYU here!

Ragone 04-12-2005 02:57 AM

So how come Bc is listed in the acc but Louisville is still in cusa and utep in wac.. etc :)

dubb93 04-12-2005 03:21 AM

I would of loved to take Ohio State or Notre Dame, but as it is I'll take Florida State. Looks like there will be alot of compitition for the Florida recruits.

Cringer 04-12-2005 01:22 PM

I will take U. of New Mexico of the MWC.

And I prefer Bowls/BCS system.....

cartman 04-12-2005 01:22 PM

There's a method to my madness in having a playoff system for the league.

First off, since every conference gets at least one representative, I'm hoping that will spur at least a couple of human owners to pick a small conference school. Otherwise, I don't think we will get anybody in the Sun Belt conference... :D Think of it as a reward for taking on one of those jobs.

And secondly, depending on how the game evolves, having the second tourney/other bowl games will keep a large number of teams with a post season appearance. If we can't have a secondary set of post-season games, then the main tourney will be expanded.

Third, we don't have school presidents to deal with that place the roadblock that is currently in place for a real-life playoff system.

And finally, since this is a computer game, there will be no "human" element to the in game BCS equivalent. Everything will be tied to algorithms and metrics. Maybe a coaches poll can be added to the multiplayer part of the game.

So, those are my reasons for having a playoff system in the game. I'm not closing the door on discussions on post-season structure, but it's gonna take a real convincing argument to use the existing bowl system.

st.cronin 04-12-2005 01:23 PM

In a playoff structure, you have ONE winner - every one else is disappointed.

In a bowl structure, you get one champion - plus 50 (or however many bowl games there are) teams winning their big end of year post season game. I think for multi player this would be a lot more fun, keeping more players involved, etc.

JeeberD 04-12-2005 01:23 PM

That's fine. I'll just build a year-in and year-out National Championship contender with just players from Parkview and Tucker.

Cringer 04-12-2005 01:26 PM

My only problem I have ever had with a playoff system, is the player stats get out of whack. If there is a difference between regular season and playoff stats in the game, insted of just adding them on top of each other, then I am fine with it.

Arles 04-12-2005 01:26 PM

I just talked Arlie into joining. He says he doesn't know of any developer exploits. Heck, Jim has only won IHOF once in four seasons. Plus, he's playing with freakin' OREGON STATE. Now, if a whole bunch of elite recruits start showing up coming out of the state of Oregon, we'll know something is up. :p

Agreed. I would have chosen Florida, but they were already taken. I have to say I was a bit bummed that you already had the Dawgs, but that's all right. I can get used to screaming "War Damn Eagle" if I have to.

And who knows, maybe you'll have better luck in this game and actually win the conference once in a while. Lord knows you've never won a division in IHOF.

If anyone "desperately" wants to be Tennessee, I'll pick someone else, because i'd prefer to be a smaller school and "build the program." But, if its gonna be a slow paced league, I'd probably stick with UT, since i know they will be a solid program that has a chance to win any given year.

bump

There hasn't been much activity over at the GDS forum for BBCF. Hopefully Arlie and the gang are making good progress on this game. The developer chat from a couple of months back seemed to answer most of the Qs people had on the game.

The league is still in its planning stages, but there isn't much to do until the game gets closer to release. Didn't want anyone to think this was an abandoned league... :)

I guess you're talking about 2000, when OSU beat a crappy Notre Dame team and finished #4 in the final AP poll and #5 in the USA Today. Sorry, one year doesn't mean squat. And here's some more recent memory for you since that 2000 season:

Using Final AP Polls:

2001: Georgia 22 OSU Not Ranked

2002: Georgia 3 OSU Not Ranked

2003: Georgia 7 OSU Not Ranked

2004: Georgia 7 OSU Not Ranked

I'm glad Oregon State took that good year and built a solid program upon it.

:D

Oh and Georgia's #3 final ranking in both the AP and USA Today polls is actually closer to a NC and is more recent. So what exactly are you saying??

I didn't say program and everyone knows that OSU was screwed in the rankings that year. :D

In all seriousness however, they probably were the best team at the end of the year and they didn't just beat Notre Dame, they had the players too scared to go out on the field. Dennis Erickson football at its finest :D

Emiliano 06-10-2005 06:15 AM

Hey, I didn't know this league was starting! Well, it's time to start my multiplayer experience. I can't wait for this game, I think Greydog makes great games. I liked TBP 2K5 a lot, I also have Wrestling Spirit. We'll have fun.

Anyway, sign me up, Michigan State Spartans.

BTW Arlie, some new info about the game??? Come on, give us something!!! ;)

Wait, there's a GAME for all this? I thought we were just choosing teams and trash-talking, but playing a game sounds fun, too.

Welcome to the Big Ten, Emiliano! Hopefully I can get Rafini out of the picture, take over in Ann Arbor, and we can get a nice rivalry going! In the meantime, I'll just have to spank you from Champaign.
