TB2: Boxing Historic Recreation (1859 - 1889)
I keep pushing this off since people are always posting new fighters on the TB forums. But, if I keep waiting for more to be posted, I'll never get this started. So, since I finished updating my history utility for TB2, now seems as good as time as any to start.
This will be an alternate history. A lot of the facts I present will actually be quite wrong. So keep that in mid as you read. Boxing Historic Recreation At the end of 1859, an organization of sports writers, government officials, former and current pugilist got together to form the World Pugilist Group (WPG). In an agreement with the British government, the WPG constructed a list of ruls to make the fight game safer and have more mainstream appeal. Pugilism has had repeated periods of time where it was officially illegal, and the WPG felt it was time to seek to make the sport as legitamate as horse racing or football. The WPG presented the following list of rules to the British government, which they approved shortly after. 1. Fights will be fought using gloves, not bare fists 2. Rounds will last 3 minutes, with a 1 minute rest period in between rounds 3. Fights involving the championship will last a maximum of 15 rounds, while fights not involving a title will last a maximum of 10 rounds 3. If a fighter is knocked down, he has 10 seconds to answer the count or lose by KO 4. Wreslting and grappling moves are banned 5. Headbutting, punches to the back of the head, using the elbow, using the back of the hand and punches below the beltline are all illegal 6. A doctor must be present at all fights. 7. 3 Judges must be present to each fight, and will score each round instead of a referee Shortly after, the US officials wanted clarification on several rules and the WPG added the following. 8. In case of a cut being caused by an accidental head butt, we go to the score cards after round 4, before it will be declared a technical draw 9. Scoring will be on a 10 point system 10. Either the referee or the doctor can stop the fight 11. A fighter can be saved by the bell in all rounds. The US officials agreed to the rules as did the British officials. Thanks to the efforts of the WPG, pugilism has found a place in the sports world. The first title fight with these new rules will take place on April 17th, 1860 between the American champion John Camel Heenan and the British champion Tom Sayers. |
Tom Sayers vs. John C Heenan
World Title Fight London, England Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: Tom Sayers starts off strong but Heenan fires back near the end of the round, causing a bit of sweeling under Sayer's left eye. (Round to Sayers, 10-9 Sayers) Round 2: A close round as Sayers and Heenan go back and forth. Sayers' eye gets a bit worse. (Round to Heenan, 19-19) Round 3: A very dull round for the most part, but Heenan pours it on at the end, hurting Sayers. (Round to Heenan, 29-28 Heenan) Round 4: Heenan dominated the round as he landed several hard shots and had Sayers hurt for much of the round. (Round to Heenan, 39-37 Heenan) Round 5: The swelling around Sayer's left eye is starting to get really bad as Heenan once again dominates the round. (Round to Heenan, 49-46 Heenan) Round 6: Sayers composes himself and does a decent job of staying with Heenan shot for shot in theis round. (Round Draw, 59-56 Heenan) Round 7: Heenan wins most of the round with Sayers coming on a bit at the end. (Round to Heenan, 69-65 Heenan) Round 8: Heenan seems to be slowing up a bit, giving Sayers a chance. Heenan wins the round, but not by much. (Round to Heenan, 79-74 Heenan) Round 9: Heenan wins another round, but again, Sayers is showing great heart by not giving up and staying with him. (Round to Heenan, 89-83 Heenan) Round 10: Heenan hurts Sayers midway through the round, but Sayers fires a hook and drops Heenan to the canvas! Heenan answers the call and finishes the round. A 10-8 round for Sayers, but the swelling around his left eye is quite bad now. (Round to Sayers 10-8, 97-93 Heenan) Round 11: Heenan gets back to himself and has a good round to take control of the fight back. (Round to Heenan, 107-102) Round 12: Heenan may have run out of gas as Sayers helps himself to a slow moving target. (Round to Sayers, 116-112) Round 13: Heenan comes out firing but is quickly stopped by Sayers and is hurt. Sayers pounds away at Heenan. (Round to Sayers, 125-122 Sayers) With 2 rounds left, Sayers needs a KO or to knock Heenan down a few times to win. Just once and winning both rounds will give him the tie on my card Round 14: Sayers again comes away with a win in a close round. (Round to Sayers, 134-132 Heenan) Round 15: Final Round Heenan comes alive in this round and completely dominates the round. Pugilism Following The World Title Fight
Pugilism had a long and storied history in England. For a century and a half, the sport had evolved and had been close to the hearts of many diehard fans. However, with the drastic rule changes, and the lose of their champion to the American, British support for the new rules of Pugilism died instantly. Many pugilist events reverted back to the old rules and flourished underground for well over a decade. In the States, however, the sport was still in its infentcy. With the santioned support of the new rules by the government, and the prestige of having John C Heenan win the undisputed world title, pugilism in the States exploded in popularity. John C Heenan became an instant star, even though he would never defended his title. But back then, the fans decided the champions, and when Heenan announced his retirement after failing to lure Sayers to the US for a rematch, the fans quickly crowned a new champion. Joe Coburn claimed the title after Heenan's retirement in 1862. Fans are, of course, reluctant to just give away the title of champion, and Coburn would have to win the honor. Mike McCoole was a slow heavyweight, but a powerful one. An extremely strong man at 200 pounds (pretty big for the 1860s), he was a force that Coburn would have to deal with if he wanted the championship. |
Joe Coburn vs. Mike McCoole
HW Championship of America May 5, 1863 Charlesworth, Maryland Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: Coburn starts off fast and quickly takes control of the fight. He landed several powerful shots (Round to Coburn, 10-9 Coburn) Round 2: Coburn slows up and McCoole takes advantage. HMcCoolr did a bit more in the round than Coburn, although not much happened. (Round to McCoole, 19-19) Round 3: Another round of very little action with McCoole doing more. (Round to McCoole, 29-28 McCoole) Round 4: Coburn picks it up a bit, but so does McCoole. (Round to McCoole, 39-37 McCoole) Round 5: Coburn drops McCoole with a vicious hook a minute into the round. McCoole spends the rest of the round avoiding Coburn. (Round to Coburn 10-8, 47-47) Round 6: McCoole comes out to take the fight back. He dominates the round in an effort to make up for the knock down, although Coburn did get in some good shots. (Round to McCoole, 57-56 McCoole) Round 7: A very close round, with not a lot of action. Coburn barely did the better. (Round to Coburn, 66-66) Round 8: McCoole comes out with mean intentions. Coburn did a good job staying away, getting his shots in, but McCoole did a good job of controlling the round and keeping Coburn against the ropes. (Round to McCoole, 76-75 McCoole) Round 9: Both fighters look to take the round off. McCoole did a bit more. (Round to McCoole, 86-84 McCoole) Round 10: Coburn comes out aggresive with McCoole trying to stay on the outside. Both pretty much did a good job. (Round to Coburn, 95-94 McCoole) Round 11: McCoole looked to take a round off and Coburn took advantage of it and dominated the round. (Round to Coburn, 104-104) Round 12: Another extremely close round, this time McCoole was the aggressive fighter with Coburn playing it defensively. Again, very close with McCoole doing a bit more. (Round to McCoole, 114-113 McCoole) Round 13: McCoole has swelling around his right eye. McCoole again tried to come out aggressive, but Coburn caught him with a lot of great shots and just knocked McCoole around the ring. (Round to Coburn, 123-123) 2 rounds left, it's still in the air Round 14: Both fighters are tired. McCoole tried to play the aggressor but again, Coburn controls the action easily. (Round to Coburn, 133-132 Coburn) Round 15: Niether did much. (Round a Draw, 143-142 Coburn) After 15 rounds of action, we go to the score cards... Judge 1 scores it 144-143, Judge 2 scores it 145-142, Judge 3 scores it 144-142, all for the winner by unanimous decision and the new champion of america, JOE COBURN! |
The Sport Suffers a Long Hiatus
Joe Coburn now had his claim to the title solidified. He was the champion in the US with his vitocry of McCoole. Over in England, a champion by the name of Jem Mace had emerged, however, and many beleived he was the better champion. However, in England, by and large the old bare-knuckle rules were used. In 1860, he had won the welterweight championship of England and in mid-1861, his victory over Sam Hurst gave him the heavyweight championship. Jem Mace weighed in at 158 pounds, Sam Hurst at 200. In early 1862, Mace would fight Tom King to a 43 round victory to ratain his title. Their epic battle would have a rematch in Novermber of 1862. This time, Mace would fall in a 21 round fight. Joe Coburn saw his chance. Pugilism was gaining a lot of attention in England again, althouygh limited and unofficial, and Coburn wanted to take advantage of it. He challenged Jem Mace to a World Title fight, however Mace refused to come ot the US and fight under the sanctioned rules. What Coburn did next would deal a decade long blow to the sport. He would abandon the sanctioned rules and agreed to fight Mace over in England using the bare-knuckled rules. In 1864, Mace had aquired the middleweight title from Joe Gross and had regained some prestige from his lose to King. He had tried to get a rematch with King, but King had refused. Thorught 1864, Coburn and Mace would try to get a fight together. First, there were disagreements between the fighters, and then police officers would follow them and threaten to arrest and jail them if they tried to schedule and perform a fight. The entire year of 1864 went by with no fight. Coburn returned to America and retired. Jem Mace would continue to fight in England and won back the English title in 1866. In the US, pugilism struggled without a champion and the sport suffered a sharp decline. |
Jem Mace Comes to America
Jem Mace, while not a fan of the new rules, had tired of his fights always being stopped by the police. In 1867, he had enough and moved to the US. He teamed up with former champion John C Heenan and toured the US in 1869 giving exhibitions. Tom Allen was a fairly unknown fighter, but in the US, pugilism was almost dead in 1870. When Jem Mace picked him as his first, official opponent, the crowds came in droves and Allen was crowned the symbolic US champion. In May of 1870, Mace would fight Allen in Kennerville, La. A fight that would bring the fans back to pugilism, and bring Joe Coburn out of retirment. |
Jem Mace vs. Tom Allen
World HW Title May 10, 1870 Kennerville, La., USA Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: A moderately active round with neither fighter gaining the advantage. (Round Draw, 10-10) Round 2: With the very first punch of the round, Mace had Allen hurt and stunned. He spent the entire round bouncing punches off of Allen. He couldn't get him on the canvas, but he dominated the round completely. (Round to Mace 10-8, 20-18 Mace) Round 3: Although not as dominating, a thorughly controled round. (Round to Mace, 30-27 Mace) Round 4: Another dominating round. Allen can't get anything going. (Round to Mace, 40-36 Mace) Round 5: Another round for the English champion. (Round to Mace 10-8, 60-53 Mace) Round 7: Mace, while still winning the round, seemed to take the round off. (Round to Mace, 70-62 Mace) Round 8: Mace continues to control the fight. Allen finally goes down, but he does with 1 second left in the round. He gets saved by the bell. (Round to Mace 10-8, 80-70 Mace) Round 9: Mace seems content to sit on the outside and just simply give a boxing clinic. (Round to Mace, 90-79 Mace) Round 10: As the round nears its end, Mace opens a cut over Allen's right eye. (Round to Mace, 100-88 Mace) Round 11: Another big round for Mace and twice the doctor was called to look at the cut. (Round to Mace, 110-97 Mace) Round 12: Mace takes the round off, but still wins it. (Round to Mace, 120-106 Mace) Round 13: The cut over Allen's eye has gotten too bad and the ref stops the fight. The referee calls a halt to this fight at 0:13 of the 13th Round. Your winner by technical knock out and the undisputed champion of the world.... JEM MACE |
Joe Coburn Returns
With the complete domination of Tom Allen, Jem Mace was given the title of champion of the world. However, not everyone was impressed. Joe Coburn openly critisized Mace for picking an inferior opponent. The controversy over Coburn's statements sent off a firestorm of sports writers reporting on the back and forth between Jem Mace and Joe Coburn. By the end of the year, Coburn official returns to the ring and challenges Jem Mace. This time, the fight would happen. After all of these years, after that year in 1864 of trying, it would finally happen on May 11th, 1871. |

A New Generation
With the two classic battles that occured in 1871, pugilism became a huge success. Fighters started popping up everywhere and the sport exploded. Even in England, the old ways of the bare knuckle fights started to wane as England enforced the new rules much more vigorously. However, Jem Mace and Joe Coburn both retired after this fight. Jem Mace would make sporadic returns to the ring for the money. In 1877, the first big time scandel would occur involving Joe Coburn. Coburn was sentanced to 10 years in prison for assault and intent to kill a police officer in New York by the name of William Tobias. However, he was released in 1882 and would make several appearances in exhibition bouts. With the boom of the 1870's pugilims underway, the WPG decided it was time to officially recognize the weight classes in 1880. Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight and Heavyweight were the official weight class. Since both Coburn and Mace officially retired, many fighters would make claims to the world title. The two that help the public's interest, however, were Joe Gross and Paddy Ryan. Gross was a very good boxer with counter punching ability. Paddy Ryan was a hard hitting slugger who bulldozed through opponents. Rayn was young and hungry, Gross had been on the scene for quite awahile and his skills had long since dwindled. However, not to the point where he couldn't give Ryan a run for his money. The two would meet on May 30th, 1880. Coming into the fight, Joe Gross was considered the defending champion since his victory over Tom Allen in 1876 gave him the most legitamate claim to the title. |

I'm going to start this back up with some changes.
1 - Since I've basically modernized the whole atmosphere of boxing in this recreation, I'm going to semi modernize the fight schedule. I won't have a fighter fight more than once or twice in a month, let alone on a single day. If a fighter in real life was extremely active, I'll still have him be really active, but not as active. 2 - I will be adding a bunch of TCs (tomato cans) and fictional fighters to the database to take the place of the fighters that do not appear in the game. 3 - Because of these two changes, a lot of fights that happened in real life will probably not be recreated (which was how I was trying to steer this thing towards). However, I will, to the best of my ability (rankings and different results will make it hard at times) to steer them in that direction. It's going to take some time to set up the database for the TCs and fictional fighters, but I should get this thing back up soon. |
Here's is how things are going to run for a bit.
First off, there will be a minimum of 20 boxers per weight class. Right now, I have 48 HWs, 7 MWs, 1 WW and 5 LWs. I will add 12 fake HWs to the HW to make that 60. MW, WW and LW classes will be given 13, 19 and 15 fake fighters respectively to make them 20. I will make use of the autoscheduler to make most of the fights. The top 20 will be put into their own group so that I can control who fights who in the top of the HW division (after a dozen fights or so). This will become true for all divisions when there is enough in them. For fighters outside of the top 20, I'm not really concerned with them. Just as long as they keep fighting, but not too much (once a month), it's all good. Also, I am going to start everyone off with a record of 0-0-0. Mark this up as laziness on my part. I just don't feel like going in and manually entering the records again. No big deal, most, if not all, had only a few fights anyway. |
I had to rebuild the database because I did something stupid.....(deleted the wrong database...)
Here is how the numbers come out now. 52 HWs, 4 MWs, 1 WW, 4 LW, 1 BW I add 8 fake HWs (60 total), 16 MWs, 19 WWs, 16 LWs and 19 BWs to make them all 20. |
World Pugilist Group becomes the World Boxing Group
In the US, the term "boxing" has become the common term used for pugilism. Since the WPG was now based in the US, and that pugilism has become very popular there, the WPG decided to change its name to conform to the American standard term. The WPG is now the WBG |

I posted the month to month results just in case anyone wanted to follow the progress of any of the popular fighters.
Shocking Lose for Paddy Ryan On December 3rd, Paddy Ryan suffered a shocking lose in a non-title fight against journeyman Dan Dwyer. The World Boxing Group is now questioning if they should conitinue to recognize Raddy Ryan as the champion. Until a decision is reached, Paddy Ryan has called off all future fights. Popular speculation is that he's scared to drop another lose and make the WBG's decision easier. |

Debutting Fighters in 1882
Heavyweights Frank Slavin Dick Matthews Peter Jackson Dick Egan James Robertson Couper Joack Boylan Middleweights Jack Boylan Bob Turnball George LaBlanche Lightweights Billy Myer Harry Force Featherweights Torpedo Billy Murphy (plus 19 other fake fighters to fill out the division) From this point on, I'm only going to show the result of fights involving the fighters with good records. If I post it all, these posts will get quite big. I also decided that trying to manage how many rounds go into each fight would be a pain in the ass. So for now, all title fights = 15 rounds, all nontitle fights = 10 rounds. |

WBG Announces Title Fights
First on the list, Paddy Ryan. After his lose in a nontitle fight to Dan Dwyer, the WBG have decided that Ryan must defend his title against number 1 contender Larry Foley in March of this year. Also, the WBG have announced they will sanction title fights in each of the weight classes. In all of the classes, title fights will be fought by the two top ranked fighters. So far, they have only announced 2 title fights. Middleweights: In April, #1 Jimmy Murrey will fight #2 Irish Jack Burke to decide the middleweight champion. Lightweights: In June, #1 Billy Edwards will fight #2 Gil Brabble to decide the lightweight champion. |

WBG World Heavyeight Title Fight
Paddy Ryan vs. Larry Foley March 7th, 1882 Common Opponents Mike Kine Ryan: Won by KO in the 1st Foley: Won by UD after 6 Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: A slow round. Foley used his boxing skills to keep Ryan at a distance. (Round to Foley 10-9) Round 2: Foley was unable to keep away from Ryan's power in this round. Ryan had Foley staggered for a bit. (Round to Ryan, 19-19) Round 3: Foley was in control most of this exciting round. Foley landed shot after shot as Ryan tried his best to come after Foley with his power. Ryan got some shots in, but Foley exposed Ryan's lack of defense in this round. (Round to Foley, 29-28 Foley) Round 4: Ryan started the round off by landing a stunning uppercut, but Foley regrouped and dominated the round with his jab and straight right. Ryan's left eye is starting to swell up. (Round to Foley, 39-37 Foley) Round 5: Another round where Foley exposes Ryan's lack of defense. Ryan's left eye is really starting to swell badly. It has to be effecting his vision as Foley is landing at will. (Round to Foley, 49-46 Foley) Round 6: Ryan started off with a good cross, but Foley again regains control for most of the round. In the middle of the round, Ryan landed a great uppercut that staggered Foley, but Foley, a few seconds later, returned with a great uppercut of his own that stunned Ryan. (Round to Foley, 59-55 Foley) Round 7: Ryan seems to be getting back into the fight slowly, but Foley is not making it easy. Foley uses his superior defense and movement to keep Ryan away and to land hard shots from a distance. (Round to Foley, 69-64 Foley) Round 8: Foley starts off strong. He lands shot after shot from the outside. Late in the round, Foley let Ryan get a little too close and Ryan let loose on him. Ryan landed 2 hooks that sent Foley into full defensive mode. Ryan as able to get a few more great shots in before the bell. (Round to Ryan, 78-74 Foley) Round 9: Ryan comes out looking for the knock out. He had Foley covering up the entire time as he unleashed all he could. He wasn't able to get Foley to the canvas, but he completely dominated the round enough to get him a 10-8 on the score cards (mine, anwya). (Round to Ryan 10-8, 86-84 Foley) Round 10: Ryan comes out again looking for the KO, but he's tired and Foley keeps away. Foley used his boxing skills to maintain control of the full round. (Round to Foley, 96-93 Foley) Round 11: Back and forth. Not a whole lot of action, but both fighters exchanged some serious shots in this round. Both were staggered a couple of times. However, in the between the even action, it was all FOley using his boxing skills to keep Ryan confused. (Round to Foley, 106-102 Foley) Round 12: An even round as both got in some shots. Ryan had Foley cornered twice, but was unable to keep him there. (Round Even, 116-112 Foley) Round 13: Ryan has been trying for the KO for several rounds, and Foley manages to exploit his total lack of defense. Ryan went down to the canvas after a stunning hook. He got up right away, but was soon knocked down a second time. THis time it took him awhile to get up. Ryan is hurt and tired but managed to survive the round. (Round to Foley 10-7, 126-119 Foley) Round 14: Again, Ryan is completely dominated and Foley knocks him down twice. Finally, after 4 trips to the canvas in the last two rounds, Ryan can not get back up. The fight ends at 2:09 of the 14th round, the winner, by knock out, and NEW WBG HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, LARRY FOLEY! |

Both fighters threw in bunches in this round. (Round to Murray, 19-19) Round 3: The round starts off much slower than the previous rounds. Murray takes control midway through. (Round to Murray, 29-28 Murray) Round 4: The round starts off slow, but Burke gets Murray staggered halfway through. Burke landed a few really hard shots. (Round to Burke, 38-38) Round 5: Burke totally dominated this round. Murray's left eye is beginning to swell. (Round to Burke, 48-47 Burke) Round 6: Murray comes out carrying his hands low, but Burke wasn't prepared and was floored by a crushing hook. He barely beat the count and was able to survive the round. (Round to Murray 10-8, 57-56 Murray) Round 7: Murray is still carrying his hands low, his eye is swelling up and Burke seems tired. These guys have taken a lot out of each other. An action filled round, however. Neither man getting the better. (Round Even, 67-66 Murray) Round 8: Burke dominates the round. Murray's right eye now appears to be swelling up a bit. (Round to Burke, 76-76) Round 9: Another close round. Burke got the better of Murray, but it was close. (Round to Burke, 86-85 Burke) Round 10: Burke throws everything he can at Murray and has him hurt and stunned through most of the round. (Round to Burke, 96-94 Burke) Round 11: Both fighters come out swinging, and Murray lands a few shots early, but Burke takes control of the round. Murray's eyes are swelling badly now and Burke has more energy at this point. (Round to Burke, 106-103 Burke) Round 12: Both fighters seemed to have wanted to take this round off. At the halfway point, hardly anything had happened. But Murray sees a chance to take a round and he lands a few stinging shots that kept Burke away. (Round to Murray, 115-113 Burke) Round 13: Burke has appeared to slow down enough for Murray to use his boxing skills to keep him away. A close round with Burke getting his shots in, but it's Murray who is the slight better. (Round to Murray, 124-123 Burke) Round 14: With a minute left in a slow round, Burke lands a shot that sned Murray to the canvas. He makes it up at the count of 8 and survives the round. (Round to Burke 10-8, 134-131 Burke) Round 15: Burke drops Murray again in the middle of the final round. Murray gets to his feet again, but after 30 seconds of nonstop punishment from Burke, the referee had seen enough and jumped in and stopped the fight. The referee stops the fight at 2:03 of the 15th round, your winner by technical knock out, and NEW WBG MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, IRISH JACK BURKE! |

He had Manno hurt early and continued the assault. With about 20 seconds left in the round, McAlpine unloaded a series of shots that sent Manno into a daze. Manno gave himself a few seconds with a clinch, but after they were seperated, McAlpine unloaded again and Manno was out on his feet. The referee jumped in and stopped the fight as the round came to a close. (To give an idea of how destroyed Manno was, the in game points for the round were 27 McAlpine, 0 for Manno) The referee calls a stop to the fight at 2:57 of the 1st Round, your winner and NEW WBG WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, TOM McALPINE! Some controversy after the fight as many though the ref should have given Manno a second chance in round 2. But considering how destroyed Manno was, not much came of it. |

Irish Jack Burke vs. WC McClellan August 12th, 1882 Common Opponents Bud Barlow: Burke W TKO4, McClellan W TKO1 Conway Farrell: Burke W KO1, McClellan W TKO3 Ding....Ding.....Ding Round 1: Burke started off by stunning McClellan with his first punch. McClellan recovered however, and survived the round. (Round to Burke, 10-9) Round 2: A pretty slow round which Burke won with a few clean shots near the end. (Round to Burke, 20-18 Burke) Round 3: Burke seems to have McClellan all figured out as Burke is controlling the entire round. McClellan can't seem to get anything going. (Round to Burke 30-27 Burke) Round 4: McClellan finally gets through and lands a crushing straight right that had Burke covering up for most of the round. (Round to McClellan, 39-37 Burke) Round 5: McClellan easily wins the round. However, he was deducted a point for a low blow. (Round Even 9-9, 48-46 Burke) Round 6: A slow round mostly controled by Burke. He landed a crushing uppercut to end the round. (Round to Burke, 58-55 Burke) Round 7: Burke controled most of the round, but a late rally by McClellan makes the round close. (Round to Burke, 68-64 Burke) Round 8: Burke hits the canvas with a minute left to go in a slow round. He answers the count and covers up for the rest of the round. He's still ahead on my score card, but will he come back from the knockdown? (Round to McClellan 10-8, 76-74 Burke) Round 9: McClellan seems to have more energy at this point. Burke is starting to tire and I think the knockdown from the previous round took a bit out of Burke. McClellan easily dominates this round. (Round to McClellan, 85-84 Burke) Round 10: Burke answers the round 8 knockdown with a wicked cross that put McClellan down early in the round. McClellan was out on his feet for a bit but manages to survive. (Round to Burke 10-8, 95-92 Burke) Round 11: Burke started the round off well, but McClellan gets his head cleared and comes back strong. Near the end of the round, McClellan landed several huge shots that had Burke hurt. (Round to McClellan, 104-102 Burke) Round 12: Both fighters took this round off. Neither did anything. (Round Even, 114-112 Burke) Round 13: McClellan seemed to control most of the round, but Burke comes on strong and dominates the last minute, landing a few stunning shots that had McClellan hurt. (Round to Burke, 124-121 Burke) Round 14: McClellan again controlled most of the round, except this time he landed several power shots that hurt Burke. Burke tried to come back late in the round. (Round to McClellan, 133-131 Burke) Round 15: Burke completely dominates the last round, though nothing significant happened. (Round to Burke, 143-140 Burke) My Scorecard: 143-140 Burke Ringside Expert: 145-138 Burke Judge 1 scores the bout 143-140 for Irish Jack Burke Judge 2 scores the bout 144-141 for WC McClellan Judge 3 scores the bout 143-140 for your winner.....and STILL MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, IRISH JACK BURKE! |

(Round to Edwards, 48-47 Edwards) Round 6: A slow round with not much action. (Round to Edwards, 58-56 Edwards) Round 7: A slow round again, but with a bit more going on than the previous round. This time McDonald gets a slight nod. (Round to McDonald, 67-66 Edwards) Round 8: The fight has pretty much slowed to a crawl. Edwards was a bit busier. (Round to Edwards, 77-75 Edwards) Round 9: A round much like the previous one. (Round to Edwards, 87-84 Edwards) Round 10: McDonald lets loose. He dominated the round, but Edwards was never hurt. (Round to McDonald, 96-94 Edwards) Round 11: McDonald seems to have waken up. Not as much as last round, but he controled the round. (Round to McDonald, 105-104 Edwards) Round 12: A slower round. Edwards was the better this time. (Round to Edwards, 115-113 Edwards) Round 13: McDonald went after Edwards in this round. He wins the round for his agressiveness and the punches he landed, but Edwards again was not hurt. (Round to McDonald, 124-123 Edwards) Round 14: McDonald again went after Edwards. Edwards skillfully avoided his agression, but still got hit, but not hurt. He wasn't able to offer much of a counter attack, though. (Round to McDonald, 133-133 Even) I have it even going into the final round. So does the ringside expert. Round 15: McDonald again went after Edwards, but this time Edwards not only avoided him, but did give him a good counter attack and easily won the round. (Round to Edwards, 143-142 Edwards) I have it 143-142 Edwards The ringside expert has it 143-142 Edwards Judge 1 scores the bout 144 to 141 Judge 2 scores the bout 145 to 141 Judge 3 scores the bout 144 to 142 All for your winner by unanimous decision, and STILL WBG LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, BILLY EDWARDS! |

WBG World Heavyweight Title Fight
Larry Foley vs. Jimmy Elliot December 29th, 1882 Common Opponents Jeffrey Caudle: Foley W KO1, Elliot W MD6 Charles Cooley: Foley W UD6, Elliot W UD6 Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: A pretty even, slow round until the end when Foley unloaded on Elliot and had him stunned and covering up. (Round to Foley, 10-9) Round 2: A replica of the 1st. An eve, back and forth round with not a lot of action until the end when Foley stunned Elliot again. (Round to Foley, 20-18 Foley) Round 3: This was a back and forth round with some action. This time, it's Elliot putting the final touches to the round as he had Foley hurt at the end. (Round to Elliot, 29-28 Foley) Round 4: A slow round. Elliot took charge at the opening bell, but Foley comes back after a minute and controls the round the rest of the way. (Round to Foley, 39-37 Foley) Round 5: A slow, even round. Not much at all happened. (Round to Foley, 49-46 Foley) Round 6: A very slow round that ended with Foley almost on the canvas. Elliot landed a crushing uppercut that had Foley out on his feet as the bell rang. (Round to Elliot, 58-56 Foley) Round 7: A slow round with Foley controlling the action. (Round to Foley, 68-65 Foley) Round 8: Finally, some action not happenign in just the final 10 seconds. A back and forth brawl occured in this round as both fighters were hurt and stunned at least twice. Foley got the better of it, though, as he had Elliot running for his life for much of the last 30 seconds. (Round to Foley, 78-74 Foley) Round 9: Elliot's left eye is starting to swell up. Elliot came out looking to knock Foley down, and he had him stunned at one point, but Foley managed to keep Elliot away and scored some points from outside. (Round to Foley, 88-83 Foley) Round 10: Elliot again comes out trying to knock Foley's head off, and this time Foley couldn't stay away. Elliot landed a lot of clean shots in this round and easily won it. (Round to Elliot, 97-93 Foley) Round 11: Now Foley's left eye is showing signs of swelling. In this round, Foley essentially shut out Elliot as he gave a boxing clinic and had Elliot staggering a few times. (Round to Foley, 107-102 Foley) Round 12: Foley drops Elliot at the start of the round. Elliot barely makes it back to his feet and spends over a minute taking punishment. With a minute left in the round, Elliot was completely out on his feet and the referee jumped in and stopped it. The fight ends at 1:54 of the 12th round, your winner by technical knockout, and STILL WBG HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, LARRY FOLEY! |

Billy Baker 7-2-2 (1) Common Opponents WC McClellan: Burke W SD15, W UD6, Baker: L UD10, D Jimmy Murray: Burke W TKO15, Baker W UD10 Ding.....Ding.....Ding Round 1: Burke dominated the round and landed a couple of big shots. (Round to Burke, 10-9) Round 2: Baker comes back strong and controls the action in the 2nd round. (Round to Baker, 19-19) Round 3: Burke's left eye has started to swell. Hardly anything at all happened in his round. (Round to Burke, 29-28 Burke) Round 4: Baker put a beating on Burke in this round. Not only did the swelling of Burke's left eye get much worse, but now his right eye has started to swell as well. (Round to Baker, 38-38) Round 5: Burke comes on strong and wins the roung, but Baker put up a fight. (Round to Burke, 48-47 Burke) Round 6: Burke comes on strong in the first minute, but Baker slowly gets back into. With 10 seconds left and the round looking even, Burke staggered Baker with a huge uppercut that most likely won him the round. The swelling around Burke's eyes is getting worse. (Round to Burke, 58-56 Burke) Round 7: Baker completely dominated the round and now Burke's eyes are badly swollen. (Round to Baker, 67-66 Burke) Round 8: Burke looked very tired out there, but he fought as hard as he could as Baker came at him. They went back and forth and in the end, it was impossible to choose a winner for the round. (Round Even, 77-76 Burke) Round 9: Aside from a few power shots that hurt, Baker completely controled the round. (Round to Baker, 86-86 Even) Round 10: Not much occured in the round until Baker came on strong with about 20 seconds left. (Round to Baker, 96-95 Baker) Round 11: Another round where Burke doesn't do anything and Baker scores from the outside. (Round to Baker, 106-104 Baker) Round 12: Burke came after Baker, but tired and his eyes half swollen shut, Burke wasn't able to to anything as Baker landed at will from outside. (Round to Baker, 116-113 Baker) Round 13: The action continued as it had for the last couple of rounds. Burke manged to land a stunning hook that hurt Baker for a moment. As the round came to an end, baker managed to drop Burke to the canvas. Burke was saved by the bell (count of 1). (Round to Baker 10-8, 126-121 Baker) Round 14: At this point, it's looking like Burke will ne a KO to win. He tried to get at Baker, but Baker easily avoided and landed at will. (Round to Baker, 136-130 Baker) Round 15: Burke is just out of it. Baker was content to just stand back and land the occasional shot from the outside. (Round to Baker, 146-139 Baker) I had it: 146-139 Billy Baker Ringside Expert: 146-140 Billy Baker All 3 judges score the bout the same, 146 to 139....all for your winner....and NEW WBG MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION OF ThE WORLD, BILLY BAKER |

(Round to Baxter, 10-9) Round 2: A good back and forth round with Baxter getting the better of it. (Round to Tickering, 29-28 Baxter) Round 4: Tickering controls the entire round. Near the end of the round, Tickering landed a shot that looks to have cut Baxter's mouth. (Round to Tickering 38-38 Even) Round 5: Tickering again wins the round but he was warned by the referee to keep the punches up. (Round to Tickering, 48-47 Tickering) Round 6: Hardly anything happened until the last minute of the round, when Baxter landed a couple of nice punches. Tickering easily stayed to the outside and landed at will. (Round to Tickering, 107-102 Tickering) Round 12: A very close round that Tickering barely wins, but Baxter is closing the distance. (Round to Tickering, 117-111 Tickering) Round 13: Baxter just can't seem to get passed Tickering's defense or catch him. Tickering easily wins another round. (Round to Tickering, 128-120 Tickering) Round 14: Baxter finally breaks down Tickering's defense a bit and wins a round. However, at this point, it's too little and way too late. Langham is using his defense to keep McAlpine off of him. (Round to Langham, 20-18 Langham) Round 3: A very close round won by McAlpine with some late action. (Round to McAlpine, 29-28 Langham) Round 4: McAlpine landed a huge shot early in the round, but Langham covers well and McAlpine can't follow up on it. (Round to McAlpine, 38-38 Even) Round 5: Langham controled the round, however, McAlpine was able to sneak in a stunning uppercut near the end. (Round to Langham, 48-47 Langham) Round 6: A very slow round with hardly any action at all. (Round to Langham, 58-56 Langham) Round 7: Some more action this round. Very close. (Round to McAlpine, 67-66 Langham) Round 8: McAlpine lets it go this round and completely dominates it. He landed a few really hard shots and had Langham stunned and almost out a couple of times. It also looks as if McAlpine hurt his hand after a punch near the end of the round. (Round to McAlpine, 76-76 Even) Round 9: McAlpine continued his assualt in this round. Langham's right eye starting to swell up pretty fast. (Round to McAlpine, 86-85 McApline) Round 10: Another round with mcAlpine giving everything he can to Langham. Amazing that Langham hasn't hit the canvas yet, but the referee might not let this beating continue for much longer. (Round to McAlpine, 96-94 McAlpine) Round 11: McAlpine slows it up some in this round. The swelling around Langham's right eye is getting bad now. (Round to McAlpine, 106-103 McAlpine) Round 12: Another round with mcAlpine just beating up Langham. Langham's right eye is in terrible shape right now. (Round to McApline, 116-112 McAlpine) Round 13: With about 13 seconds left in another round where McAlpine just let Langham have it, the ringside doctor stops the fight due to the immense swelling around Langham's right eye. The doctor at ringside calls a halt to the bout at 2:47 of the 13th Round, your winner by technical knockout and STILL WBG WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, TOM McALPINE! |

(Round to Tickering, 10-9) Round 2: Rickering stunned Maxx twice during the round, which puts him over the top and gives him the round. (Round to Tickering, 20-18 Tickering) Round 3: Maxx got his shots in, but Tickering again does more and hurts Maxx a few times. (Round to Tickering, 30-27 Tickering) Round 4: Tickering takes more control of the fight as Maxx barely does anything. (Round to Tickering 40-36 Tickering) Round 5: Exactly as round 4, Tickering completely dominated the round. (Round to Tickering 50-45 Tickering) Round 6: At this point, you have to wonder why to let this go on. Tickering is completely destroying Maxx right now. (Round to Tickering, 60-54 Tickering) Round 7: The reason this is going on is because Tickering has no punching power at all. If he had, this would have been over a long time ago. As it is, Tickering continues to destroy Maxx. (Round to Tickering, 70-63 Tickering) Round 8: More domination from Tickering. Maxx's right eye is swelling up very quickly. (Round to Tickering, 80-72 Tickering) Round 9: Tickering finally gets Maxx on the canvas and the ends the fight with a knockout. The fight comes to an end at 2:42 of the 9th round, your winner by knock out and STILL WBG BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, GERALD TICKERING! |

(Round to Stomp, 20-19 Stomp) Round 3: A slow round with Moonshine doing enough to win it. (Round to Moonshine, 29-29 Even) Round 4: A very close round. I give it to Moonshine, but can easily go either way. (Round to Moonshine, 39-38 Moonshine) Round 5: Moonshine ran away with this round. He dominated Stomp. (Round to Moonshine, 49-47 Moonshine) Round 6: A slow round with Moonshine getting the slight nod. But Moonshine was deducted a point for low blows. (Round to Moonshine - Even 9-9, 58-56 Moonshine) Round 7: Stomp starts the round with a few stunning shots and takes the round easily. (Round to Stomp, 67-66 Moonshine) Round 7: Stomp again uses his power and controls the round. Moonshine's left eye has started to swell. Taylor was hurt a couple of times. (Round to Carney, 10-9) Round 2: Carney again starts off fast by hurting Taylor, but Taylor recovers quickly and takes full control of the round and had Carney on the ropes covering up when the round came to an end. (Round to Taylor, 19-19) Round 3: A slower round this time with Taylor doing a bit better. (Round to Taylor, 29-28 Taylor) Round 4: Start off slow, but picked up quickly. It was back and forth but near the end, Taylor took complete control and landed a few combinations that staggered Carney. (Round to Taylor, 39-37 Taylor) Round 5: Carney jumps out ahead quickly as he hurt Taylor early. He had Taylor covering up for most of the round. (Round to Carney, 48-47 Taylor) Round 6: A slow round with Taylor hardly doing anything. Near the end, Carney let loose and just landed shot after shot. (Round to Carney, 57-57 Even) Round 7: An action packed back and forth round. Too close to call. (Round Even, 67-67 Even) Round 8: An even round for the first half, but Taylor takes control as Carney couldn't do anything the second half of the round. (Round to Taylor, 77-76 Taylor) Round 9: Taylor jumps out ahead early as he lands a few hard shots. Not much happened the second half of the round. (Round to Taylor, 87-85 Taylor) Round 10: Carney absolutely dominated the round. He had Taylor hurt through the whole round and just beat him from one corner to another. Good enough for a 10-8 round from me. (Round to Carney 10-8, 95-95 Even) Round 11: The round started off slow, but Carney soon started landed some power punches and had Taylor on the defensive. Some swelling is now visible over Taylor's right eye and he is very tired. (Round to Carney, 105-104 Carney) Round 12: The swelling is now getting pretty bad. Taylor's right eye has swollen very quickly. Carney now has complete control of the fight and I don't know how much longer Taylor will last. He's tired and has been beaten badly in the last couple of round, including this one. (Round to Carney, 115-113 Carney) Round 13: Taylor started off on the defnesive and kept Carney at length. He held him off for a minute, but Carney got close enough and started pounding on him by the midway point in the round. (Round to Canrey, 125-122 Carney) Round 14: Another round with Carney dominating the round. Taylor's right eye is now almost swollen shut. (Round to Carney, 135-131 Carney) Round 15: As Carney beat on Taylor more and the eye got worse and worse, the referee stops the fight with about a minute to go and has the doctor check out Taylor. The doctor and referee seem to agree that the fight must be stopped. The fight comes to an end at 1:59 of the 15th round, your winner by technical knock out, and NEW WBG LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD, JEM CARNEY! All of the judges had Carney a head by a few rounds as they all scored round 10 on for Carney. |
