As always, it was an exciting day at Daytona. 147 lead changes among 24 drivers in only 200 laps.
And it wasn't decided until the final turn as Owen Hunter made a late pass on Ron Juckett with the help of Paul Tracy to take the victory in his first ever Daytona 500. Juckett came in 2nd followed by Tracy, A.J. Tucker and Mike Ritschel. Defending series champ It's Craptacular finished 25th in the race. Two of the all-time greats, Chris Snow and Nick Phillips, both making returns to the series finished 12th and 27th respectively. Kai Collins had the day's only DNF with a broken header. Rookie Michael Dervack was running near the front early but a pit road miscue sent him back and he never recovered, finishing 41st, 8 laps down. David Gonzalez led the most laps with 36 and finished 7th. PHP Code:

Murrieta did as much as he could with his poor starting spot. |
Four measly laps...
|
Meh, Daytona is a crapshoot, so starting spots don't really matter too much. However, AJEM Racing will take the 6th and 16th place finishes.
|
Badstreet Fields came out of retirement for a 15th place finish? Must be getting the cobwebs out after the layoff.
|
My drivers, the Goldens were fairly mediocre with finishes of 10th for the rookie Johnny, 13th for Gold and 23rd for Danny. Between my three drivers we couldn't even lead one lap in a race were over half the drivers led a lap.

UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400 Predictions from the Expert Panel:
Rupen Foria - RPM.ESPN.com Mustafa Henderson, who missed Season 14, gets a win in his second race back. ![]() Darrell Waltrip - Nextel Cup Broadcaster and former NASCAR Champion Telle Snow is always tough on these mile and half speedways and she should get the win today. Conan O'Brien - Late Night TV Host David Gonzalez ran well at Daytona and will run well again at Las Vegas picking up the win. ![]() John Locke - Currently stranded on an island Despite finishing 18th, Kool Breeze had a solid run at Daytona, look for a victory at Las Vegas. |

If this the year of the rookie? Last race at Daytona rookie Owen Hunter took the win in first ever race. This week, it was Tony Griffin who pulled away from the pack during the final 36 laps. Hunter, last week's winner, finished in 2nd 3.81 seconds behind Griffin. Rookie Hans Bermuda took the pole for the race and led the most laps with 139 and finished in 4th. Vikke Allvin was the 4th rookie to finish in the Top Ten in 9th. Kool Breeze led a total of 78 but failed to finish in the Top Ten in 11th.

FOFC Nextel News - 12/16/05
Golden Out? - Despite starting the season strong in 7th place in the points, Johnny Golden is out of the #2 Cingular Wireless effectively immediately. When reached for comment, Golden Racing owner and older brother of Johnny, Gold, failed to indicate why Johnny was out of the 2 car, only saying that they have parted ways for the time being. No word on if they will field a replacement driver in the car. New Driver - While one car seems to be done for the season already, a new car and driver have entered the series. Wasabi Ak has entered the series in the #6 car. Despite missing the season's opening races he remains very optimistic about his chances on the circuit. |
Woohoo! Go Tony Griffin!
TonyR (RL I'm Mrs. TonyR), let me pick the 48 car driver. So I guess that makes me president of Tony Griffin's fanclub. And Anthony Banks'. And anyone else who wants a cheering section. :D btw, I can see from the pics that the #9 is the Mellow Yellow car. Who sponsors 48? |
Quote:
The #9 car's sponsor is Tops Friendly Markets, the #48's sponsor is Miller Genuine Draft. |

What are options for changing ratings on existing drivers at the beginning of a season? I seem to absolutely blow chunks every season.. |
Any pictures from the Vegas speedway ??
And, anyway to change racers/car abilities during the season? |
Jeeber D Mack, always tough at short tracks, started near the front and stayed close to the leaders the entire day. He managed to keep himself out of trouble and took the lead from Tony Griffin following the final caution flag and never looked back leading the races final 97 en route to the victory. Tony Griffin, coming off a victory at Las Vegas, led 73 laps and came home in second. He's Crapnificent, Telle Snow and T.E. Almighty rounded out the Top Five. Badstreet Fields dominated the early running of the race leading 108 laps but found himself caught up in a few accident and finished 27th. Chris Snow, who took the lead from Fields led 107 laps but also was caught up in the mayhem and finished 31st. Gold Golden, led 115 laps but finished 32nd.

Auto Club 500 Predictions from the Expert Panel:
Rupen Foria - RPM.ESPN.com Chris Snow ran well at Martinsville and seems to be getting back on track following his comeback. Look for a great run today. ![]() Darrell Waltrip - Nextel Cup Broadcaster and former NASCAR Champion Nick Phillips Jr. currently finds himself in 42nd in the points. Not the start he envisioned. But he gets things on track today with his first ever win. Conan O'Brien - Late Night TV Host Hans Bermuda has ran well early on in his rookie season. Keeping up with the trend of rookies finding victory lane Bermuda comes through with the win. ![]() John Locke - Currently stranded on an island Gold Golden always seems to run well but never can find victory lane. Today he gets the win. |
Wow in race 2 I started 32, led a lap and finished 20th. Pretty pathetic
|
actually kevin, thats very respectable for having started 32nd, think of it along these lines, as long as you finish better than you started, its a good day, and you got 5 bonus points on top of that finish for elading a lap, thats not a bad day for such an awful starting spot.

I couldn't get the race up today, busy with basketball, but it will be up tomorrow.

After taking a year off from the series Mustafa Henderson comes back in a big way by winning his 4th race back. Tough luck today for two Snow's, Telle, led 51 laps but finished 26th. And Chris' bad luck continues as he led 25 laps but finished 32nd. Nick Phillips Jr.'s bad season continues as he finished 41st.
