Conference Championships Thread

I didn't see a thread yet for today's games like we have had the previous two rounds.

Here's hoping for 2 solid and exciting games.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 01:58 PM

here we go!

Abe Sargent 01-22-2006 02:02 PM

Good tease by the Deacon.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:03 PM

Bronco Nation?!?

vtbub 01-22-2006 02:03 PM

That was cool

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:08 PM

looks like the cameras are higher-up than at most stadiums.

Steelers come out firing again.

Deacon was talking about the importance of the Super Bowl and he
finishes by saying "Even careers are defined by it." Then he follows up with a "Just ask Peyton Manning."

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:19 PM

Nice.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:20 PM

oops. bummer

TroyF 01-22-2006 02:22 PM

Bailey should have had six there. That's where Ben has to be very careful today. The Broncos will take away the TE read. If he looks off the TE and makes a quick, stupid throw to the outside, one of them will go back all the way.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:23 PM

And we have our first challenge of the day. Let's hope the refs can get it right.

ISiddiqui 01-22-2006 02:23 PM

Huh... this is actually a tough challenge.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:24 PM

I say fumble.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:24 PM

wow!!!!

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:24 PM

Eaglesfan27 01-22-2006 02:25 PM

I think it was a good call to say it wasn't a fumble.

Abe Sargent 01-22-2006 02:26 PM

Hell, just seeing Deacon Jones is awsome. He's the DE who named a tackle of a QB behind the line while looking to throw a "sack." It was his speciality, and the statbook changed as a result. These days, careers of DEs are defined by the number of sacks they have, and it is all due to Deacon Jones. Definiately one of my choices for an All-Time NFL Team starter.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:27 PM

Nice play by Washington there to save the pick.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:28 PM

good gutsy call on 3rd. way to test the D. great play. now don't ef up the field goal.

henry296 01-22-2006 02:28 PM

Solid start although nearly turned it over on 3 plays on the drive.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:29 PM

Woot! Prop bet won. :)

First score of game not a TD

TroyF 01-22-2006 02:30 PM

Big Ben has twice did the look to the middle, throw a prayer to the sideline play and it almost burned him both times.

I dont' know what to think. Should I be happy Denver alomst forced three turnovers or worried that they all went the Steelers way and maybe it's just not the Broncos day?

awesome lo-def commercial!

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:35 PM

yeah!!!!!!!!!!

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:35 PM

Oops. That no good.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:35 PM

Hopefully the Steelers can capitalize.

Eaglesfan27 01-22-2006 02:36 PM

If Pittsburgh's defense can keep that up, this is going to be fun.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:36 PM

right on! don't forget about miller

henry296 01-22-2006 02:39 PM

Glad to see them give it to Bettis the first time he got in the game. Hopefully that helps his confidence, even if he didn't gain much.

muns 01-22-2006 02:40 PM

i cant stand willie parker

Eaglesfan27 01-22-2006 02:41 PM

Excellent play! :)

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:41 PM

yeah!!!!!!!!!! right on! bailey? was that you!?

ISiddiqui 01-22-2006 02:41 PM

Well, 10-0 now for Pittsburgh.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:41 PM

Who forgot to play defense for Denver? Obviously, the only solution to this game is a heaping helping of Ron Dayne.

Looked like he was following Ward in on the slant and didn't see Wilson on the outside until it was too late.

muns 01-22-2006 02:43 PM

lol, just the truth....... lets pay duce who is better 5 mil to sit the bench....

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:43 PM

was montana that small in his uni? wow, im getting old

henry296 01-22-2006 02:43 PM

Didn't want to see them settle for another FG. Steelers doing a great job on blitz pickup.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:44 PM

Freaking kickers.

Defense isn't playing that bad. Had a chance at three turnovers on the first drive. Didn't get any and then Jake gave up one.

If you'd have told me how this game was going without looking at the score, I'd be happy. Denver is running fairly effectively, and have open receivers out there.

But Jake's the wild card. He can't turn the ball over like that and if he does, Denver will lose, no matter how well the D plays.

See last Saturday.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 02:46 PM

nice stop!

kingfc22 01-22-2006 02:47 PM

What a play by Troy. Had two blockers to defend with and he still stops them short.

muns 01-22-2006 02:47 PM

duce hasnt been injured since sometime around week 4..... Im from Pitt...... i think they are waiting till bettis retires, and adding a year to duce's career.

I was referring only to the touchdown pass by Roflsburger.

henry296 01-22-2006 02:50 PM

Plummer mentioned it during the pregame, but they have gone with a quick snap many times.

doesn't defend why you dislike parker.

broncos on a roll...nice thread by plummer.

TroyF 01-22-2006 02:51 PM

If you would have told me Denver would run the ball effectively in the first half against the Steelers and be down ten, I'd have told you that you were nuts. Amazing game and it shows you what turnovers can do.

muns 01-22-2006 02:53 PM

i dislike parker because he doesnt fit our inside running game....... he hasnt done anything since week 1-2......... Now if we are going to switch to the outside run thats different, but they wont......

muns 01-22-2006 02:55 PM

broncos had a nice drive there

what part of a 1200 yard season is so damn bad?!

Staley hasn't been the healthiest the last 2 years either.

st.cronin 01-22-2006 02:59 PM

It doesn't seem like Denver is getting enough pressure on Roethlisberger. That could be an issue.

TroyF 01-22-2006 03:00 PM

I'm not sure what's not to like about Parker. 4.7 yards a carry, 12+ yards a catch. . . and four games of that came with Tommy Maddox/Batch at QB, I think you can deal with that type of production.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:00 PM

gotta love that tuck rule.

muns 01-22-2006 03:00 PM

Willie parker has five 100 yard games.......... Cleveland, Detroit, Cincinnatti, Houston and Tenn.....

Agaisnt anybody that has a D- he doesnt do anything......

I love Deacon Jones as much as the next guy, but maybe he should leave the slams to guys who won a playoff game at some point in their careers.

He pointed that out. He said "Even I haven't been there" when saying that some of the games greatest hadn't been there.

Game. Set. Match.

st.cronin 01-22-2006 03:05 PM

Wow, I didn't think that was a slam on Peyton. I thought it was more of an exhortation to the players, that no matter how good you think you are, it means nothing without a Super Bowl.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:05 PM

Is Denver going to cover Cedric Wilson?

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:08 PM

nice! ward 2 - bailey 0

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:08 PM

Steelers are getting nothing done on the ground

TroyF 01-22-2006 03:11 PM

Denver is in trouble. For some unknown reason, they've changed their gameplan. They've rushed five and six guys every play all year and are now rushing three and four 80% of the time, including on the last two third and longs.

They are trying to be cute at the wrong time. Do what you do and if you get beat with it, so be it. But don't lose by changing your gameplan 150%. It isn't worth it.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:15 PM

First down.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:15 PM

here comes the bus

henry296 01-22-2006 03:16 PM

Today, though Parker is being way to cute around the line of scrimmage. While he does have the home run ability, I'd try Bettis for a full drive early in the second half.

Pumpy Tudors 01-22-2006 03:16 PM

This is the fastest first half in the history of football. Also, I think the Broncos are replacing their defense on third down with me, Subby, and Suicane. Sorry we keep blowing the coverage, Bronco fans. :(

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:17 PM

yeah!!!!

TroyF 01-22-2006 03:18 PM

I've never been this pissed off at a Denver team as I am now. Again, third and long, rush four.

I have no idea what they are doing. They've won 14 games with the blitz and for some reason have decided to get away from it in the championship game.

It's just beyond reason. Denver is getting EXACTLY what they deserve here and if they don't switch back to what they are in the second half, I hope Pittsburgh runs away with the game and beats them 45-3

vtbub 01-22-2006 03:18 PM

*applauds* Sweet Mercy

st.cronin 01-22-2006 03:19 PM

Jerome Bettis is a large man.

No, they aren't blowing the coverages, they have done a 180 from what makes them good. They got here a certain way and decided to "trick" the Steelers with the same ridiculous standard defense of last year.

st.cronin 01-22-2006 03:20 PM

I can see it now.

The Patriots didn't 'lose' the game, they got BEAT by a better team.

But the Broncos blew it against the Steelers...

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:21 PM

that's the plummer we know and love.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:21 PM

WOW

st.cronin 01-22-2006 03:21 PM

Oh baby, it's JAKE PLUMMER TIME.

muns 01-22-2006 03:21 PM

wow thats a HUGE pick

TroyF 01-22-2006 03:21 PM

Thanks Jake.

Game is just about over.

I get what you're saying, but giving up 20 yards is blowing a coverage almost by definition. I was just trying to work in a joke anyway, though.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:22 PM

The crowd is stunned.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:22 PM

ping muns:

that's parker my friend

robbgmaier 01-22-2006 03:23 PM

woo hoo fucking hoot!!!

ice4277 01-22-2006 03:24 PM

Wow. What a playcall.

Terrible penalty to take.

ISiddiqui 01-22-2006 03:24 PM

Denver's defense looks demoralized.

Hurst2112 01-22-2006 03:24 PM

hahahahah NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:24 PM

Ouch.

kingfc22 01-22-2006 03:25 PM

Time to throw it to Wilson who will have nobody covering him.

kcchief19 01-22-2006 03:25 PM

Denver's just given up. How could you fall for that?

Lucky that Ward screwed up. This game would be over.
