If I remove someone from my "Friends" list, do they get a notification that I've done so?

Close. 17-year-old, and that's precisely what I'm wondering. I just discovered that some time today, she posted a wholly inappropriate--and perhaps even illegal, given her age--picture as her *profile* pic, which was therefore appearing in my friends list. I want to be known as a "friend of sinners," to be sure, but I am not interested in going to jail, either.

As for the original question, after posting here, I called SWMBO to help me test it out. SWMBO created an account, added me as a Friend, and then took me off, and no, I received no notification.

If this surprises you, you probably shouldn't have a Friends list there.

What's the ruling on things like this? Can Myspace get in trouble if she is under-age for wherever she's from (including if that eans a country that has an age level of 21 or something)?

I've seen hundreds (probably thousands?) of pics on Myspace, and plenty of over-the-line ones, but I've never run across one like this one.

How inappropriate are we talking? Would you put her in the penalty box here for posting it? With of course the obligatory 7/18ths vote of current moderators here, and the inevitable 16 page bitchfest thread that would result.

I've caught one straight-up hardcore porn pics posted here briefly, but other than that, this one would rank as the most obviously NSFW pic ever posted at FOFC, I'm pretty sure. It would be an easy automatic boxing here, with no bitchfest whatsoever, the only comments being of the "what-the-hell-what-that-guy-thinking-posting-that" variety.

Its really easy on myspace to find someone if you know their e-mail..from there he just scanned your friends list id imagine...

1. For the 3598829489th time, I'm not a youth pastor. It woudl be a very rare church indeed that I would work for, to be honest.

2. Before I ever asked the question here, I took the first step toward making sure that she gets an appropriate and loving conversation about this. It would be best coming from a female, I think.

3. Without going into detail, it is rare for a kid to get to this point at her age without having some seriously screwed-up parenting going on to begin with. :(

I'll shut up now if you prefer. She's obviously had a tough life, and probably doesn't need dirty older men ogling her. But I'd give her a 6, maybe a 6 1/2. Maybe knowing how easy that picture was to find for a forum full of 30-something football fans just based on a tiny bit of information would help your wife (or whoever you are asking to talk with her) realize how stupid it was to post it.

You'd be surprised. There are more than 40 million profiles on MySpace already. It's definitely captured the 20-something set already.

I've thought about creating an FOF profile, sort of a blog for development. But I don't like giving development updates on a regular basis.

i'm on MySpace, you have to be in order to send messages to the people.

Originally, because hundreds of my kids and former kids are members. What's interesting is that over a short time I've discovered that MySpace and Facebook are great ways of mass-communicating with kids (we have over 100 kids in our "group" on Facebook that we send announcements to every week about our meetings), getting new kids involved, and even of having significant conversations with them (as was mentioned in this thread). For example, I posted the following message to the profiles of all of the high school kids that I have in my MySpace friend list:
Several kids who weren't previously involved saw the announcement on their friends' profiles, and showed up. Two of those kids who showed up for the first time to the Super Bowl Party have remained involved since then.

Tell us something we DON'T know.

Yeah, there's definitely a significant out-of-college-to-age-30 presence there. I've reconnected with quite a few former YL kids through it and Facebook as well. One day, I'm going to systematically go through and do a search of graduating classes of the schools I've been connected with.

That's the thing in the news here in CT there have been several sexual assaults that are happening with 20/30 something year old guys going after the teens they "meet" on myspace.

:( looking at some of these kids makes me really depressed. My only hope is that the pendelum will swing back towards the 1950's by the time Catherine hits dating age.

I believe we had something less serious but in that vein happening locally here as well. MySpace was the subject of a "parents, be sure you know what your kids are doing online and who they are talking to" letter from my son's school a couple of weeks back.

The site has now been banned from access on school computers & I got the impression that some additional disciplinary action was being taken against some specific high school students who were involved in something ... I dunno, "unsavory", through the site.

(Keep in mind, I live about a half an hour from those legendary "Lost Children of Rockdale County" so pretty much anything isn't beyond the realm of believability)

Myspace, otherwise known as a Dirty Old Man (I can't use the term I want to use)'s paradise. It's like a shopping mall for online predators. The amount of information that folks on there give to potential stalkers is mind boggling.. (I usually hear one or two stories a week on the news about myspace. If I ever have kids, myspace.com will=127.0.0.1 on any computer in the house.

Anyone seen the "myspace - THE MOVIE" video on youtube? Thought it was decently funny.

If she's 17 and this photo is as bad as it sounds, wouldn't that mean that any of you who've looked for and found her profile have broken some laws? Age of majority in her state may not be the same as in others.

We had a woman come in to work and talk about what she found on her 15 year olds Myspace. There were pictures of drugs and all that junk that teenies love to yack about. Her daughter claimed someone "hacked" her Myspace and added them there, and how she trusted her daughter, etc etc and believed her etc etc blind parent mumbo etc.

I had to wait for her to leave the room before I pissed myself laughing.

I was into myspace for a bit, then ditched it. I'm back up again for the networking of bands and stuff. It's great for an engineer because even bands that don't have a decent website can post stuff for free. I've gotten gigs because of myspace. I do have a few chicks on there, but for the most part, it's all rock n roll.

You can get on it through an alumni account. I'm connected to tons of former kids who are in their mid-to-late 20's and are on Facebook.

She's not unusual, Rizon. I could tell you some mind-boggling stories of the crap that parents will believe.

She's probably not 18. There's an age cutoff where others can't see your profile if you're below a certain age. If she's a soph, she's probably 16. They increase their ages if they're at or below the age limit, so that everyone can see their profile, I assume. (Again, I'm guessing here. I'm fairly certain I've never met Lisa.)

I don't know about that. It seems to be changing the way that some communicate. As I mentioned in the other thread, a significant percentage (if not a majority) of the deeper questions I've gotten from kids in the last few months since I've joined Facebook and MySpace have been through those two mediums, even though every one of the ones who have contacted me that way have my e-mail address, mobile phone number, and know where I live. I don't fully understand it myself, but there's definitely *something* to it.

Absolutely. Levi (no one calls him Allen) is a mentor of mine and a very dear friend. He gave me my first guitar when I was 18 years old and wanting to learn to play. We went to the same relatively small church and I was the youngest member of the college/career small group, and he was the oldest, so he took me under his wing. He's a simply AMAZING song-writer. Dat boy's metaphors sound so good...

Colo. Police Use MySpace to ID Suspects

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Detectives used profiles posted on the MySpace social networking Web site to identify six suspects in a rape and robbery that began when a party turned violent, leaving blood "in almost every room of the house," officials said.

Six men were arrested in connection with the Feb. 23 rampage, and a seventh suspect was being sought, Detective Ali Bartley said Friday.

The victim, whose name was withheld, became acquainted with the suspects through MySpace, authorities said.

The group met for a party. "At some point, the victim was no longer aware of what was happening, and she was sexually assaulted," Bartley said.

She knew only their first names but their pictures were posted on MySpace.

"Primarily, we pulled up her friends list. It helped us identify some of the players," said Bartley.

The men face charges ranging from sexual assault to felony theft. Some $40,000 in electronics, jewelry, clothing and other items were taken, authorities said. About $13,000 worth of stolen goods have been recovered.

"There was blood in almost every room of the house," she said. "There were broken pictures and statues. They stole stereo equipment. The media center was bare."

Nicolas Brison, 18, was charged with rape. The five other men ranged in age from 18 to 20. They were charged on March 7 and hearings are set for April 6.

MySpace drew 28 million visitors in December.
