So, I thought some of the original movies that you got the sequels from might actually be good. If I were voting on mainstream box-office success type movies, I think the worst sequel of all time was Star Wars: Episodes 1, 2, & 3. Just ill-conceived all around.

Attack Of The Clones is a truly awful movie from start to finish. That would be my pick for worst of the bunch, though all three sucked mega-ass.

'Twas very bad. But #5 sets up a nice little conspiracy theory about Michael, and they never paid that off, and pretty much just ignored them in the later Halloween movies.

Highlander II was bad, but Highlander III was even worse.

And then the Highlander movies that were based on the tv series were even worse. They kept on lowering the bar and kept on sneaking under it with the next movie.

Actually I thought 5 was terible. Part 4 was best because it was most like the original. It set up alot of atmosphere that built the suspense very well, and the ending was extremely creepy.

I voted for Teen Wolf Too on this list because it is the most egregious example of copying the original. I mean seriously, they copy it down to dialogue patterns. And they picked College Boxing as the sport we're supposed to care about, and the Dean wants the wolf to play (as opposed to, you know, football or basketball). Also, not only did they make it about Scott's cousin because MJF refused to do it, but they had another actor playing Stiles. Oh, and no Boof. Lame.

This poll made my head explode. There are so many fitting choices that I cannot decide. I might vote trout.

For this poll I have decided that is is important that the first movie isn't very good (or didn't do very well), therefore the 2nd movie is kind of like "Why did they even bother making this movie?" If the first one did really it is obvious that they would make the 2nd.

With that said I chose Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

I sort of take an opposite view. For a sequel to be really bad, I think it is important that the first move was very good, so that there was some expectation for the sequel and actual hope that it would be good.

A crappy sequel to a crappy original film is sort of like a tree falling in the woods with no one around to hear it.

The original idea was to have a different type-Halloween movie every year. The Saga of Michael Myers was supposed to end after II, but III did so poorly, they went back to the well.

My vote would be Alien V Predator or Jason V Freddy--decent ideas 10 years too late and crappily done at that.

Well I'd suggest that the first one is at the very least one of the best action movies of its era, and go even further to note that its one of my favorite of all time. Speed 2 was a complete waste of time, and had none of the cleverness or fast paced thrills of the first one. It was set on a fucking cruise ship, for cryin out loud. Ugh.

your expectations are lowered when you see the sequel to a shitty movie. but when you see Star Wars 3-6 and then go see The Phantom Menace, your entire world is shat upon, your very sense of right and wrong is questioned.

Seriosuly, I think the writers of Weekend at Bernie's 2 should get some kind of medal for daring to do the movie in the first place, and then following it through.

I mean really, I bet someone was just fucking with the writer - "Yeah, what are you gonna do now, write a sequel to Weekend at Bernie's." And the writer came back a few months later and said "Fuck you bitch, here's the script and it's got a green light."

What a brutal movie. Tried watching it once sober and once drunk and couldn't get to the end either time.

Sooby Doo 2 might be a god freakin' awful sequel, but it doesn't compare at all to, say, Phantom Menace, Highlander II, or many of the others posted up there because it is just shit begat by shit.

And I can't believe not a single soul has mentioned The Exorcist II: Heretic. Absolute shit. What's funny is that the writer of the first one came back and wrote the third one, and it's actually pretty darn good.

Godfather 3 was no 1 or 2, but it's not as awful as you guys say. If you FF through the Sophie scenes, it's not too bad. Some of the stuff with Garcia was solid. A lot of times I'm just happy to see resolution of characters that i enjoyed meeting, even if it is substandard.

Aliens 3 or Aliens 4. Both sucked.

I didn't walk out though. So Natural Born Killers takes the prize for me. I'll even nominate for this thread's worst category. That's how bad I thought it was.

I've seen all of the Indiana Jones movies at least a dozen times each (for quite awhile, the only one my family had on VHS was Temple, so that's my excuse for watching that one so much...we got it free or for $1 from McDonalds I think). I never knew Temple was a prequel. Do they do anything in the movie to make it obvious?

Basically just the dates in the beginning of the movie. The setting is 2 years prior to the events of Raiders, IIRC.

Heh. When I saw "Natural Born Killers" I was a young, impressionable youth. I loved it. Saw it 4 times in the theater. The movie has lost its luster a bit, it still has its charms. That said, I perfectly understand how people would and could hate this film above all.

Wow, I really liked Alien vs Predator.

Maybe my expectations of the movie were so low going in that I was blown away. Who can blame me though after having seen Winona's Alien and Glover's Predator. AVP just blew these 2 sequals away.

In fact, based on trailers alone I will throw this out there:

Fast & Furious 3 > Fast & Furious 2 > Fast & Furious

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Worse sequel of all time, by far. No movie has ever dropped so far from its first to its second iteration.

The answer is clearly the Matrix 2.

I vote for Exorcist II. Horrid movie. It's more memorable to me because it's the only time I've ever been to a movie and the theatre was empty except for me and my friend. Should have tipped us off.

Actually, kudo's to the theater for showing it anyway but I think they only did it so they could sit in the projection booth and mock us.

I love that movie. I remember being 8 years old and going to see it at the theater with my grandma and my buddies and just being blown away. Maybe it's just a childhood thing, but I still love it whenever I see it.

My rankings of Indiana Jones movies:

1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade -All movies should be this fun
2. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - Not art, but still entertaining
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark - Good, but not as colorful to me.

Raiders is an amazing movie. Watch it again.

And Last Crusade is almost as good as Raiders, but Temple of Doom is not on the same level. Which is not to say that TOD sucks, cause it's still better than most movies made. It's just nowhere near as good as the other two.

Another vote for Highlander 2, although I have to also toss out The Two Jakes, because I did walk out of the theater for that one.

I actually sat through it once...the guy I went with wouldn't leave. I thought the movie was SO bad that I figured something had to be wrong on my part. Another friend wanted to go see it, so I agreed to go. I set his expectations exceedingly low. I remember telling him, "I think it got better after the snakes". So when you see the snakes..You'll know it is about to get better. A ways into the movie, he leaned over and said, "I can't wait for the snakes. We need to leave". I was in wholehearted agreement. That is the only time I've walked out of a movie.

Ace Ventura 2 - Call of the Wild.

Blair Witch 2 was pretty horrible as well...but it had some female nudity in it so it was redeemed a bit. :) Batman and Robin was horrific as was the Superman with Richard Pryor in it.

Oh, god, forgot about Batman and Robin. That sucks majorly, probably one of the worst films I've every had the displeasure of seeing.

I thought 2 had it's moments... and it had the whole problem of us (as viewers) kind of giving it the benefit of the doubt since we figured the 3rd movie would tie up any loose ends. Nope, the 3rd just sucked 50 times harder. I thought Revolutions was AWFUL and felt robbed.

I would have to say it was the worst transition from beginning to end of any series ever. Star Wars comes in 2nd.

I think it does for this reason. There are sequels that are very bad in of themselves (like Highlander 2) but when compared to its predecessor, I measure the gap and I think there is a greater disparity between between IJ 1 and 2 than Highlander (or Matrix or whatever) 1 and 2.

I think a really important consideration here is how good the first movie was and how bad of a fall it was to the second movie. So, if something's not that great to begin with, who cares if it's sequel sucked. Hence why I wouldn't vote for 2 Fast 2 Furious (then again I never saw it) because The Fast and the Furious sucked so there wasn't much further to fall.
