Your top 3 frozen pizza brands?
1. TJ's
2. Mama Lucia's 3. Totino's TJ's only comes around for fund raisers and we buy around 10 at a time. There is no equal frozen pizza according to my wife and I. Way down the list is #2 Mama Lucia and then it's one of the cheapest frozen pizza's you can buy - Totino's - but they are quite good for the solo dinner. |
ok...
1. Home Run Inn 2. Tombstone 3. there is no 3... |
Supermarket store brand. If you are going to buy frozen pizza might as well buy the cheapest stuff. I prefer cheese and then I'll add my own toppings.
|
Never heard of Home Run Inn, but I just went to their website and I'm getting hungry again.
|
1. Freschetta Brick Oven Style (Pepperoni)
2. California Pizza Kitchen (BBQ Chicken) 3. Totino's (this is what I grew up on but I rarely eat it now) |
1) Totinos -- best cheapo pizza I've found
2) Kroger -- Not nearly as good as #1, but tolerable 3) Mr. P's -- Decent, except there's some sort of weird little seed like things mixed in with the toppings. |
I agree 100% on the Totino's.
Cook that sucka right on the oven rack (no pan) crust gets all nice and crispy and hard to beat... 2) Mr. Ps /G&W...same pizza seen under 2 names 3) maybe once a year we'll o the "premium" frozen pizza thing, they are all bout equal...but Ill say tombstone, just cuz... |
I am a big fan of red baron

According to their website, there are a few stores around STL that sell them. |
1. California Pizza Kitchen
2. New York Tony's Pizza Slicey...thingy... (okay, I don't remember the name - it is a local brand) 3. Various - haven't found any other brand that stands out yet |
I like the DiGiorno thin crust pizzas.
|
I go to a little italian restaurant in St. Louis (about a 700 mile round trip for me) and pick up 30-40 frozen pizzas at a time. I call ahead and they freeze them up for me. It's the cheese. Restaurant is called Cusanelli's. My mom and dad grew up in St. Louis, and did the same thing after moving to NKY.

You are the BEST! I'm going to that meat store in St. Peters tomorrow. :D |
I don't particularly buy frozen pizza that much, but one of those companies that makes the frozen pizza kit's are pretty good.
|
1. DiGiorno (rising crust)
2. Jacks 3. Freschetta |
Quote:
Is that the only purpose for the trip? |
mmm... Totino's.....
|
Quote:
Sometimes. I have family there, but about 1/2 the time I just go, pick up the pizza, and then drive home. |
Totino's
Digiorno Wild Mikes |
This so could've been a Mt. Rushmore

We need to work out some sort of deal if that is the only purpose of your trip. As far as the pizza goes I have to also vote for Tontino's. While a Tombstone or DiGorno's might be a little bigger and tastier you are comparing $4.99/$5.99 sale prices to our local Save-a-lot Totinos that are $0.99. I did find a really good Brick Oven style pizza (it might have been the one that was mentioned earlier in the thread) that was half price and really good, but I can't see paying $6/$7 for a forzen pizza if it wasn't on sale. |
Quote:
I gotta be honest I find that really strange yet oddly cool, I'm very conflicted. |
Quote:
I've actually tried basically every single variety and I swear the Shop Rite store brand is actually the best of the plain varieties. DiGirono has a couple solid varieties as well though. |
For me, frozen pizza brands have a tendency to be cyclical in terms of how good/bad they are.
Right now it's 1. DiGornio's 2. Jack's 3. No third |
Quote:
Just discovered that myself. Really good pizza, and not too pricey.:) |
Quote:
If you like pizza, and you had this stuff..........you'd understand. :) |
Quote:
well I am just over the boarder from you, we may have to work a deal out :) |
I'm not trying to crap on something that people enjoy, but is the frozen pizza thing a product of not having good fresh pizza in the area? Not wanting to leave the house? Price issue? Enlighten me please.
|
1) Freschetta Brick Oven Style
2) Red Baron 3) none, really |
Quote:
All of the above. |
Totino's Combination Style with a little Texas Pete or Louisiana's on top.. Mmmmmm, mmmmm.. Nice reminder of my HS/College Days right there.
DiGiorno's and The Baron would be the other two mentionables for me. |
Totino's is some good stuff, as is DiGiorno's
|
Home Run is good stuff.
|
1)Orvs - I think it may be a local brand, but they have good spicy sauce.
2)Tombstone |
Can't go wrong with Tombstone.
-Cork |
wow i guess i am the only one who likes stoffers, but i always snack on ellios get it bulk and its cheap
|
I wandered in here thinking I'd be the only one singing the praises of Totino's. It's the perfect bachelor food. In fact, Elaine's going out of town this weekend... I should go pick some up today.
|
1. Palermo Ultra Thin
2. DiGiorno 3. Tombstone Obviously I prefer pizza at our pizza place but, given that our typical bill there is $20 it is cheaper at times to just do the frozen thing... I can understand the driving 700 miles to pickup pizzas. If I had a Round Table pizza place within 700 miles I'm sure I'd do the same thing.. I used to love that place when I was out west. |
Quote:
Finally, we have a winner. |
Haven't heard of half of these...
1. Orv's 2. Tombstone 3. Jacks |
I'll vote for Tony's. Not the best, mind you, but good for the price. And on the upper shelf I like DiGornio and Freschetta about equally.
|
Ah yes, Freschetta is great, just a little more expensive than I'd want to pay for frozen pizza. I can sometimes get 6 for $10 of Orv's and that is a steal
|
Quote:
1. Kids 2. Price 3. Eat a TJ's pizza and you'll see |
Totinos is also the perfect size for one serving. It's like they had NASA measure it or something.
As for why to eat frozen pizza . . . cheap, easy, and filling. |
Home Run Inn

Palermo's plant is next door to the Falk complex that exploded in Milwaukee the other day. It cracked some of their walls, knocked down parts of some ceilings, but didn't appear to do any serious damage. One news report said Palermo took in a bunch of Falk's employees and fed them pizza, while letting Falk employees use their offices and phones. |
Totino's
Tombstone Cali Pizza Kitchen I really can't stand Freschetta, I mean, it tastes okay, but for some reason they never cook right in my oven. The crust will be burned, and the middle will still be doughy. I end up cutting it, turning the middle parts outside, and cooking it longer. I must be doing something wrong. |
I love this thread.
It's like being in little Italy. :D |
Red Baron
Red Baron Red Baron |
I'll third the Mr. P's and G&W's. When I was in high school my parents would have like a freezer full for me. They were easy to throw in the microwave and eat in like 10 seconds. Good if you just need your stomach to shut up.

Why is it again that I can't honor a post like this by nominating it for a QOTM? |
Home Run Inn has cheese on it the likes of which no other frozen pizza can compare to.
Tony's is a solo pizza, but usually the price is right and the sauce is a major plus in my opinion. Thirdly, Totinos pizza ROLLS. To hell with the frozen pizzas, give me the rolls all damn day. |
Quote:
No doubt. |
1. DiGiorno's
2. Tombstone 3. Freschetta's |
4 Totinos for $5 today at Wally world. Gotta love it!
|
If you ever had a Schwan's frozen pizza, you'd never go back to anything in the grocery store. They own Redbaron, Tony's, and Freschetta's, but the ones sold off the truck are much, much better.
|
I decided to let the Totino's people know about this thread mainly because, I too, love Totino's and it's a staple food for me. They responded.

Thanks to this thread my wife and I had our first Home Run Inn Pizza tonight.
I was very impressed with the cheese and the flavor. I never knew HRI pizza existed. The pepperoni on it is very spicy too which I like. |

Thread necromancy
I had a Screamin' Sicilian Mambo Italiano pizza today. For a frozen pizza, it was right up there with Home Run Inn. |
I generally find that all frozen pizzas need a little fresh moz and my own spice combo added to the them.
I'll 55th the love for Totinos as well. Barring all that, DiGiorno, Fruschetta and then Ellios (although this is more of a childhood fondness thing than a quality thing). Best frozen pizza I've ever had was actually a DiGiornos painstakingly prepared by Sovereignstar. He made me pre heat the oven, he made me cook it the exact amount of time, then he made me wait 3 minutes before slicing it, and it was awesome. Then one of my dickhead friends stole my 2nd slice. |
I like the California Pizza Kitchen pizzas - pretty good.
|
Red Baron Spicy Pepperoni is like $3 and a shockingly good time.
|
I do like Red Baron.. it's so saucy just the way I like it.

I can't remember the last time I bought frozen pizza.
Those Mama Celeste pizza for 1 aren't terrible tho, especially when they are on sale. |
Whoa, almost 8 years since my previous choices. Since then... Kashi blows the rest of my picks out of the water.
|
Looking back at this thread is great. I can now get the St. Louis cheese I like so much on Amazon, shipped directly to me. My wife makes our crust. We usually use either Montgomery Inn BBQ sauce, or my wife's homemade. Add BBQ Chicken, and no 10 hour round trip drive and it makes life much easier.
|
Totinos kept me alive in college.
|
I loved the Stouffer's french bread pizzas in my younger days, but I haven't had one in ages. No love for them, or do they not even make them any more?
|
I haven't had a frozen pizza in like 6 years.... I may have to track one down.
|

Curious. With 2 working parents, I grew up on Schwan's back in the early 80s. But the one thing I would not, could not eat, were the disgusting frozen pizzas. Discs of pure, frozen vomit packaged as pizza. I would assume they've upgraded, as I haven't eaten anything but ice cream from Schwan's in over 20 years. |
|
It is behind a paywall but you can get takeout from dominoes for as much as some frozen pizzas cost.
|
Diogorno Bacon and Cheese Stuff Crust pizza (Bacon Me Crazy or Better wwith Bacon)
Frescetta Rising Crust Pizza (usuually Pepperoni) There really isn't a number three. The normal digiono isn't very tasty and the brick oven and other stuff from freshetta just doesn't do it for me. |
Quote:
wtf dude at least copy and paste the actual article words :) |

Weird, I don't pay for Business Insider, don't see why it would be paywalled. I think you get the gist from the headline, though: Frozen pizza sales are up, which means a recession is coming because people are eating out less. Quote:
Totally agree. Maybe that's why I remember this thread so much. I remember thinking "who eats frozen pizza so much they have *three* favorite brands?" People crap on Domino's, but I think it's fine and I like their crust (pretty pissed that they don't have green olives anymore though). |
Yeah, the lack of green olive availability across the board with pizza places annoys me. I’ve seriously considered going to our local place with a jar of them, telling them “here, put these on my damned pizza.” (Of course it would be when my wife isn’t around as she does not like green olives; loves black olives though.)
As for frozen, it’s usually Red Baron. Food Lion has decent sales on them so we keep a couple stocked in the freezer. Last couple of times we’ve had Domino’s we’ve been disappointed, which is weird as we didn’t ever really like them, then they improved a ton, now they’ve fallen off again. Little Caesar’s though has stepped it up. Have had their stuffed crust pretzel the last three days (one pizza, just multiple meals). Shit is good. |
Easily the best frozen pizza I have ever had is from a local Michigan company:
https://www.traversebaypizzaco.com/?...2rpRvdSHGjr-Pw Super solid frozen pizza, though, sadly, hard to find even in Michigan. |

The Pretzel crust pizza is tasty for sure. But just thinking about eating one gives me a heart attack. That thing has about 10,000mg of sodium! |
Quote:
Yes my kidneys would have rebelled too. |
I can’t believe people actually like Digiorno’s. My dad picked up 5 on sale about a year ago and couldn’t stand the taste of them so he gave them us. Made one for the kids and they wouldn’t eat it. Made another for me and the wife she wouldn’t eat it so it has fallen to me to choke these nasty pies down. They change recipes or something because I’d absolutely place them as the most vile frozen pizza I’ve ever had.
|
I had one recently and agree. It had zero flavor.
|
Quote:
Regular Digiono is tasteless yes. DOn't get that. GET STUFFED CRUST DIGIONO WITH CHEESE AND BACON!. IT'S AMAZING! PARTY IN YOUR MOUTH! |
I miss when frozen pizzas were dirt cheap. Could get Jacks and Totinos for under $1.
|

yeah but those are made with dirt |

well what the fuck is wrong with you. Okay well they have a cheese pizza with stuffed cheese crust too. eat that. And the freschetta 5 cheese is a fucking winner too |
Ah, to live in Wisconsin, home of the frozen pizza...
:) |
I love my 5 dollar pizzas from King Soopers (Krogers)
|
The pepperoni Red Baron french bread frozen pizza cooked in the microwave/air fryer is the best I've had. You put it in the microwave for 40 seconds and then put it in the air fryer for about 5 minutes at 360 and it comes out perfectly crispy. Some people just air fry for like 7-8 minutes, but I find that burns the top and the middle is still a little cold. Use the microwave to cook the inside and then crisp the outside with the air fryer seems to be the best

Another selling piece is each french bread pizza is 380 calories with 15g of protein. Not the worst bang for your buck when it comes to pizza.
|
I just found out yesterday that my favorite deep dish pizza place is closing end of June. I plan to get some once this weekend, once before it closes, but now I need to figure out how many frozen pizzas to order for after they're closed.
|
I’m not sure this quite qualifies, but the other night I used the store brand frozen garlic bread as the base for a pizza (the long kind, not the Texas toast kind). I had some various leftover sauces which I mixed together, adding some parsley, oregano, and dried onion. Spread it on both halves of the garlic bread, then a small can of sliced black olives, then a package of provolone slices (five per half). On one I added pepperoni slices on top of the cheese. I cooked it for 10 minutes according to the bread instructions. Probably will add one or two minutes next time but it was still damned tasty.
(My wife typically likes her garlic bread on the underdone/juicy side, so I didn’t want to overcook.) |
