Face the Board: Buccaneer

This week's participant is that old pirate Buccaneer. Questions will run through Saturday. In a new tradition the last participant, VPI, also gets the honor of asking the first question:

LOL....bastard. I made all my joke questions in the Quiksand thread. Should have asked a more serious one since he answered everything in good detail. So I learned my lesson since I find these FTBs a good read. So leave my man-crush alone. :p

Hey now!

Bucc, what advice you can give a novice photographer on how to take better pictures (besides the very obvious "keep taking pictures" advice).

JPhillips 12-28-2006 10:31 AM

What do you see as the turning point in the Civil War?

Seriously, I recall a really interesting post a few years ago from Bucc regarding interest in text sims stemming from tracing leagues--not from a statistical or league performance standpoint, but rather from following the leagues organizationally. Care to talk a little about what drew you in to text simming and what you look for from games?

When did you first play FOF? What drew you to text-based football and did you have a fondness for simulating football before FOF?

(Hell, this should almost be a standard question that all FTB members must answer. :) )

Buccaneer 12-28-2006 01:31 PM

Unbelievable questions so far. Someone better ask a few smart-ass questions or else HA will get annoyed. ;)

You find yourself stranded on a deserted island. Upon exploring the island you find a working computer that is only capable of playing an advanced copy of Sid Meier's Pirates! 3 and Emma Watson. Do you disassemble the computer in hopes of building a device that will help you and Emma get rescued, or do you live the rest of your life a happy man? :)

Q1: How much pain was it to see the football franchise by your design win the league championship, yet not being the GM of that team?

Q2: Norm Rizzo or Nicky Lincoln?

albionmoonlight 12-28-2006 03:31 PM

You strike me as a bit of an independent spirit. How does fatherhood/family life fit into that?

albionmoonlight 12-28-2006 03:39 PM

You are an observant and thoughtful Christian and a libertarian. In the current political climate, some would think of that as a contradiction (though I do not). Do you have any problems resolving those aspects of your personality?

What's your favorite meal? Books? Movies/TV Shows?

Will there ever be another "golden age" of baseball (or any other professional sport), or is that just impossible in the ESPN era of overanalysis, hype, and sizzle over steak?

DaddyTorgo 12-28-2006 03:42 PM

who is your favorite historical buccaneer and why?

st.cronin 12-28-2006 03:52 PM

Tom Brady - the greatest football player of all time, or merely an inner-circle hall of famer?

This one's my favorite so far. I gotta remember this one. Usually when I meet someone old in the Army, I ask them, "Was it a lot harder when you first joined the Army?"
They usually reply, "Yeah."
"I mean, I would've guessed that since you guys had to stand in a straight line and pour the gunpowder down the muzzleloader."

I also ask them if it's hard adjusting to parking a HMMWV after having to take care of their horses for so long. :)

Antmeister 12-28-2006 04:44 PM

Were you pissed off at Mel Gibson's portrayal of William Wallace since you were in combat with him back in the day?

Which commandment did you most despise when Moses came down?

Antmeister 12-28-2006 04:52 PM

Do you remember why the Mayan civilization vanished since you had a summer home in their village? And why did you stop working on the Mayan calendar?

Antmeister 12-28-2006 04:56 PM

Since you were responsible for some of the hieroglyphics, was that just grafitti, simple doodles or is that some language you wanted to make up, like some sort of picture pig-latin?

ROFL!!! That is a great question. I can imagine Buccaneer in the crowd of people.

3ric 12-28-2006 04:58 PM

You've been in a couple very different careers if I recall correctly. Software testing, cartography and maybe more I don't remember. What jobs have you had, and what prompted the career move when you switched professions?

JPhillips 12-28-2006 04:59 PM

I'll go back to the Civil War well.

What do you think was the primary cause of the Civil War and where do you stand on the "Lost Cause" version of Southern history?

SFL Cat 12-28-2006 05:01 PM

If you could do one thing to each person who gives you a hard time about your age, what would that be? :D

Buccaneer 12-28-2006 05:16 PM

Good grief, Ant, HA doesn't know anything that happened before 1980 and you expect me to entertain him talking about ancient history?!?!? :)

Barkeep49 12-28-2006 05:20 PM

Does your liberterian beliefs affect your feelings about things like salary caps or is the world of sports different enough that you think there needs to be a different approach?

Surtt 12-28-2006 05:31 PM

Have you read Steinbeck's

Cup of Gold: A Life of Sir Henry Morgan, Buccaneer, with Occasional Reference to History

If so, what do you think of the premise that you must remain a child at heart to accomplish great things?

Schmidty 12-28-2006 05:43 PM

If you could strand 3 FOFCers on a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean, who would you pick?

Other than the Civil War, what is your favorite period of history to read? And if the answer is another period of American history, what is your favorite non-American historical period to read about?

Senator 12-28-2006 06:15 PM

Antmeister 12-28-2006 06:25 PM

When you learned the details of the impending betrayal, why didn't you warn Jesus when you were serving him during his Last Supper? Is it because he already knew? And what exactly did you prepare for him?

CamEdwards 12-28-2006 06:45 PM

Was Eve as hot as some of the Renaissance painters made her out to be?

Anthony 12-28-2006 06:48 PM

you are hiking in the woods and find $1,000 on the ground. you pick it up and feel happy about your good fortune. farther down the trail you see a group of guys littering, tossing their still-lit cigarette butts along the greenery and acting like assholes, and overhear one of them complain about the thousand dollars cash they dropped somewhere in the woods.

do you give the money back or keep it?

Anthony 12-28-2006 06:56 PM

have you ever dined on Rocky Mountain Oysters?

you are fighting in a war during the Middle Ages. what is your weapon of choice? would it be a mace? a longbow? perhaps mounted on a mighty steed and charging downfield with a lance in your hand?

I so read this at first as "you are fighting a dragon during the middle ages". That seems far more like a HA question than that.

sabotai 12-28-2006 08:02 PM

Does your wife know about the crush you have on Zhang Ziyi?

WSUCougar 12-28-2006 08:23 PM

Two-parter:

(a) What moment in history would you like to be present for, particularly to photograph it?

(b) What moment in history would you like to be present for, as a participant?

Antmeister 12-28-2006 08:38 PM

Okay I am about to ask a question in the styling of GWsFBA:

Is it true that Da Vinci had originally painted you in the background of the Mona Lisa doing the "Cabbage Patch" and the reason for Mona Lisa's smile was because you expressed yourself by way of the forbidden dance since the leadership had banned it (similar to the movie Footloose)?

Or was Mona Lisa simply smiling because she was fond of Thomas Bradicus?
